The good thing about this policy is that when a person finds out there's a flameboard topic about them and registers to defend themselves, they'll have to make ten crappy posts that they won't care about to get to the real point that they registered for. If the person is a noob who's guilty as charged in said flameboard thread, the person probably won't have the moral fortitude to abstain from thread crapping to do so. In other words, the kind of people we're defending ourselves against won't have problems breaking the 10 post barrier, and it might not be the way that's best for QCDN.

All new users are required, for their first 10 posts, to post meaningless, inane images. Pwned, Moar, and Do Not Want images are always amusing and tasteful. Christ knows I can't keep up with the stupid image posting alone!

Got it?

If only that Zebra-Chicken was in the Ocean swimming with bird wings, then you'd have a point.

I had been wondering why after a few years of coming to QCDN I could no longer see the flameboard. Guess it's time to put in my 2 cents (or 10 as the case may be :D )

Hmm that's something Miros or a Mod will have to look into as to why you aren't getting the FB after 10 posts.

Uhm....

Why are you even blocking out flameboard visibility to unregistered users? I don't understand. What if I want to link someone to a post there that doesn't have an account? I can (maybe) understand putting a limit on posting there, but it should be viewable to anyone, no?

Nope. ;p <3uId

But seriously. I was meaning to do this a while ago but my modem decided to ditch me and no place sold just a DSL modem. Regardless, I have changed the permissions to read only. I had not realized there were so many people who didn't post that much yet loved it so much! My apologies to those people, and access for users >10 posts or whatever the <> sign is has read only access to it.

Much Love,

Mir

i totally agree. im sure the moderator(s) have a "good" reason for not showing the flameboard to unregistered users.

probably has something to do with one user that was banned 40 years ago.

Happened before my time, so I don't recall the reason myself. Maybe someone else here does, maybe nobody does. Probably something to do with keeping a lid on server drama, or not having our profanity-filled flameboard open to the public for the sake of someone's virgin eyes, let alone overprotective soccer moms on the warpath. I dunno.

If it concerns you enough to inspire some not-very-well-veiled unconstructive criticism of how the site is run, why not go the extra step and make a topic on the subject with some *constructive* criticism and objective reasoning of why the flameboard *should* be viewable to the entire intarwebz? Worst case, you'll get the original reason you wanted to know, and it'll be a good one and trump your argument, and that'll be that. Best case, you'll get the change you want.

That's the purpose of this part of the forum, after all. Make a good enough argument, effectively shoot down any counterarguments, and you get your desired change.

I think it had to do with Neolink.

I was just trying to be funny actually. my bad

Oh, I appreciated the humor, I like to laugh at administrative positions myself, even if I'm in one. (Bit of advice though: work on the subtlety. The best digs are the ones that not everyone will catch.)

Still, I thought I'd try taking it at serious face value anyway, seeing as this *is* the forum where mods are to take suggestions at serious face value. Weird how that works.
