So I used fraps to record a BC last night. The resulting video is 23 min long and 4 Gig! What do you guys use to compress your fraps videos so they are more manageable on the internet?

Im currently using TMPGEnc and it's got it down to 229Mb

I use Pinnacle video editing software to reduce the size. The VCD format fits 60min on a CD (700MB or so) but there are a few other formats including some very web friendly ones.

The only catch is that you need to aquire the video in a multiple of a frame rate that the software can work with. So for an NTSC (60FPS) Pinnacle you'd need to aquire at either 30FPS or 15 FPS. Pal (50FPS) would need to be aquired at 25 FPS...

I just use a pirated version of some AVI compressor. It works like a charm, and is very simple.

DivX works nice too.

movie maker works well if you want it to a decent quality downloadable WMV, saving in the AVI format is going to result in bigger file size regardless. you can get it down to a dvd format quality by saving in MPEG-2 and getting to down to a manageable 50MB area.
i use Sony Vegas 6.0 for this compression

I've used Adobe Premier Pro with Divx codec in the past, and it works pretty good. I can make a 5gig video about 25MB that way.

The best thing to do is re-adjust Fraps's settings before you know you're going to be making a video. (lower res, and .jpg format) If you use the same settings as you normally do for taking screenshots then you'll be forced to compress the hell out of it, and the video quality obviously suffers when you have to do that.
