Well not so much with fraps but with a program that can help trim down the size of the video. I have a 7 min video of a rdm maat fight thats only 30mb. When i tested it with only maybe a minute of video i was almost up to 800mb!!. I have the sound recording off and set to 20fps. thanks
I like Windows Movie Maker. It'll work for you.

if you dl;d the full version, be carefull of how long you let it record for, it will keep recording till your HD is full. it will use increments of 4 gigs
i dont like fraps i cant record vidoes over 30sec long and i get a fraps watermark so i dont use it really ><

fraps is very simple to use, given you have common sense 
i used it to film alot of videos, and even start a series.
the best way to encode your video into a smaller file without losing the quality is to download a program called
TMPEG enc.
You can convert your video into many media types.
Or as mentioned earlier u can use windows movie maker, while using this will cause you to lose an incredible amount of qulaity due to pixelation and audio dumming, it can work. I dont reccomend it tho cause it really does make your video look like crap. i only use this to convert to 56k bitrate files.
