just a real quick question....can someone post me a link to DL Fraps from? I've finally decided to give it a shot. Oh and I did read that it's designed specifically for games that use Directx9.0 and Open GL, but does anyone know if it slows down the game any?

Thanks

If i'm getting what you mean, record time is limited by your harddisk space. Mostly the partition that the "folder to save movies in" box points to.

You can increase this space by lowering the requirements of the movie. Half-size movie takes less space, less frames also takes less space, and record sound, but these affect the quailty of the movie itself too.

In general 30 frames per second is good and I think if you have a decent vid card half size is pretty good.

thanks for the DL site Dark....does Fraps automatically startup and run in the background when i start up FFXI, or do i have to execute Fraps then execute FFXI?

Theres a check box you can click to run fraps when windows starts.

Generally I always belive that is a bad idea though, I like my apps to start when I want them to and not eat my memory.

I think its on by default.

Trial fraps only records in 30 second spurts. Running fraps while in game will usually bring your FPS down to around 10fps (well thats on my system), whereas without fraps i run it around 30 fps. The files you save WILL be huge. A 15 min file is around 3 GB. Yes GB. So make sure you have something to compress the files with, as well as edit the video (if you wish to).

i got a ok comp and can run it to like 20 or normal frames but when in jeuno...4 frames!

I must have a wicked comp then. I get 30fps all around. ^^;... I have alot of HD space left so a 3GB movie isn't much. But thanks for the responses...

Hey, I saw this post and decided to give fraps a try. I downloaded it, installed it and went to try it out but when I went into the game and hit the screen capture key, it didnt take a pic. I unchecked the box to automatically run it, so I'm guessing it wasn't running at the time, so is there a way to turn it on or off mid-game?

load fraps.exe or w/e before you open up ffxi then whlie in game hitting the capture or film button should start the recording/pictures.

there is a free full version on the web, but you have to look for it. because of the rule of the boards, i cannot share any of the info on it.

Fraps' Video's are HUGE. My suggestion is using an easy compressor (Like Virtual Dub) system to reduce the file size. Compressing it to a DiVX video can take it from 2Gigs to about 50MB which is a lot easier to deal with :P

Thanks Krisy. I must have closed it out last time without noticing. Just tried it again and I got a few pics of me in my MH and it worked. Thanks again :D
