So I decide to make some elemental ore... let's see what I got:

98762497659273659876325 shell bugs (NPCed these pieces of shit)

34 Dark Crystals

10 stacks and 6 single gold leaves (15k each)

Total profit: Roughly 170k

Now let's see here... I could've sold 30 tree saplings for....

Roughly 250k a stack...

Do the math...

If you want to start farming elemental ores, don't fucking do it.

I'm pissed fyi............ These ores were supposed to buy me pigeon earrings, behemoth mantle, utsu: ni, etc... -.-;;

Clearly this is SE fault for not just giving you gil. What were they thinking adding things like risk, and knowledge requirements to things like gardening. Seriously, if everybody got good harvests every time then everybody would garden and elemental ores wouldn't be worth anything. (some of them already aren't) Sucks that you didn't do as well, next time spend a month doing a safer form of gil making.

Gardening, like most other things in this game, doesn't yield amazing results when you just give it a whirl. Some gardeners have been practicing their craft for years now and still don't know all the secrets.

Ask yourself what you want out of your investment in gardening. If it's just money, there are better ways to make money NOW. Sell the saplings and move on. If gardening, as a craft or hobby, makes you tick, then keep trying.

Light and Dark ores are tricky.... I have yet to try them myself.

Next time try an elemental ore other than Light/Dark. The recipe I use(props to Duffman) have given me consistent yeild of 2 ore per 10 pots.

I've found Fire Ores easiest, or ice due to their fail plat leavs that can npc for a lot. My recent harvest was 6 ores 20 pots. I use 2 mules and both have arcane pots, yet all my ores came off hte porcelin (sp?). But, i think the new way to go about gettting ores easier, or where they're all coming from is BCNM60, the one that drops Torques. After this last harvest, it gave me enough money to get me through 70.

Ores are tricky... You need t set them up properly (no simple task mind you) and pray. In the end it comes down to luck, and ways of mzimizing your odds.

Do any gardeners have a picture of how they set up their garden? I've heard that pos in mog house affects it.

I'm an adept level woodworker and plan to make staves eventually, so I may want to make my own ores at some point.

See the thing is I've done it before and was 2/9

And it wasn't even in proper conditions.

Why the hell are you guys flaming me anyways?

DUDE! Nobody is flaming you.

I've never found ore gardening to be a good source of income, personally. I don't have the attention span to ensure proper timing of planting/harvesting/feeding etc. I have grown ores occasionally, but it was something I generally considered a fluke.

I garden for cooking supplies. I only plant seeds that I farmed myself (or my husband gives me for free). Whenever he gets a tree cutting, he throws it my way, and I grow saplings out of it. I'll then turn those saplings into stuff I need for cooking, with a minute chance of getting ores.

So, most of the ores I've grown are Fire Ores, cause I go through a lot of cinnamon. I've done dark ore once, to build up a stash of Persikos for cursed soup. I got 1/12 pots giving me ore, which I was satisfied with as that one ore covered the cost of my saplings (that was the only time I actually purchased them). So I basically got almost 3 stacks of persikos for free, which was all I wanted anyway. More ores would have been a nice bonus, but I really wish I'd gotten more persikos and less salt. Yes, I know I'm crazy, lol.

Sneaky, I direct you here

Edit: I don't think I mentioned that I woke up at 7:30am to harvest on a full moon... - .-

Meh... so I overexagerated a little bit.

I might also mention I only got 2-3 hours of sleep and am very tired. x.x

And when I first read it sneaky and crooked seemed like they were half flaming me ;o

"Some gardeners been practicing their craft now and still don't know their secrets". Fuck that and FUck enix.So they want you to garden all day and night ( Fucking real life stuff) and still not get stuff worth shit unless you spend years.THey can fuck off then till they come up with a better game with some fun in it and the crafting.

I don't see this as a flame in any way shape or form.

Only possible flame here would be the first line, due to its sarcastic nature.
Everything just falls under fact. Although the truth does hurt, it doesn't mean it's a flame directed at the OP. Maybe the last line? But it seems like it would be a stretch to call a suggestion a flame.

Noxxx is really just stating the fact that anything available in mass quantity isn't worth much. Ores are expensive because of their rarity, time required to grow, and element of luck still required even when you know what you're doing.

Plus, OP says "you guys"...What are we all flaming him now?
One guy said something that could possibly be construed as a bit sarcastic and the OP switches from whiney to whinier.
Now that's pretty straight forward. ^^

Seriously though, I asked the OP to ask himself what he wants out of it. Money or the enriching experience of gardening and potentially ores. All I see is whining. Yes that could be a flame, but it's also true.

Edit: Didn't see that it was from OP. lol
I'm sure it can still be read just fine.

And this is my point in my last post. Sorry if I offended, as that's not my goal at all. Just pick yourself up and dust yourself off. Try again.
Complaining about getting up at 7:30, to people who get up at 6, just doesn't get sympathy points.

I wish you luck on your next harvest. Stick with it.

Well considering the fact that I farmed for all cuttings (The only materials work more than a few thousand), I'd have to say I was doing it for the money. If I wanted an "enriching experience of gardening", I'd have planted fruit seeds or something.

Can you back off my nuts now? ~_^

Yeah if you farm the goods, you can't possibly lose money.
You could have sold them though. Sounds like you'd be better off just selling the saplings or cuttings. Take the profit and run with it.

And I hope you're kidding about me being on your nuts. That's the last place I wanna be.

Honestly, I expected at least 1 or 2 ores, which is more than I would've gotten from selling the cuttings. I spent money on pots and crystals.
