Movie G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra

There must exist a state of being where Rachel Nichols and Sienna Miller kung-fu fight, while wearing skin-tight suits.

Wow.... this movie was a total let down.
Spoiler:
The action was cool, it resembled some star wars scenes a bit much, StormShadow Vs. SE (Phantom Menace). Cant say if it was poor acting or poor lines, or a combination of both. I was very disappointed.

Ice that sinks.

'Nuff said.

Does this occur? My continued want to see the film hinges on it :|

I honestly wasn't expecting this movie to be good, and I was right

I dont understand why there are many people down on this movie and high on transformers 2. This was just as good in my opinion.. Just as good meaning just as bad.

I liked it...but I never really kept up with the series or anything...

This isnt' a movie about acting lol, i'm sure it's got exactly what everyone expects of it, action and a sub par plot.

I haven't seen this yet, but I can only guess that is because a bad movie about giant robots tearing each others to bits > a bad movie about some guys in skintight suits melting the eiffel tower or something.

The difference is that, as much as I abhore Michael Bay and everything he touches, at least the transformers themselve are...tranformers. Whereas the GI Joe name is the only thing this film has in common with the comics/cartoon series. It's a wonderful example of artistic license being completely misappropriated to a pre-existing franchise. Much to my amazement, the people who put this film together did a worse job with the GI Joe franchise than Bay has done with the Transformers franchise. I'd say this film is equal to, if not worse than Masters of the Universe and Mario Brothers as far as 80s-children-icons-turned-into-movies go.

Impossible. No fucking way, lol. I'm going to see this tonight, so I will make my own assumptions.

also, lol @ taking a cartoon series where nobody gets hurt serious enough to critique a movie made based on its concepts.

(the above is not an lol@you, Valandil, just an lol in general)

No offense taken. It's not so much about it being a cartoon, I just have a problem with Hollywood taking such liberties with any pre-existing franchise in general; be it a cartoon, a novel (Sum of All Fears ><), a television series, etc.

I can understand more with books like Clancy novels (note: I enjoyed The Sum of All Fears film, mainly despite my best efforts, I can't get into Clancy's novels at all), and I can especially understand with epic series like The Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter, simply because of the attention to detail the author gives to the characters and plot.

I hated Transformers 2 too.. and Transformers 1... Michael Bay is a shitty director that creates poor plot, poor characters, and action is.. well... tiresome after awhile. How he got The Rock right is a wonder to me.

Well... To make these movies even more common shit... They are both owned by Hasbro no?

And i dont buy GIJoe being the winner here in the Hasbro trash movie countdown. At least there were no robots in the hood in GiJoe... Jeeeeeez. Not to mention the hot girl in Gijoe didnt keep her mouth in that odd position Megan does. These are equally bad movies with equally cool effects.

I went to this movie with very low expectations to begin with. I thought overall it was entertaining. Storm Shadow and Snake Eyes were the best part of this movie. They were both bad ass. Now onto the negatives. The first big one to me was the whole power suit thing. First thought that came to my mind when I saw the preview, and then was refreshed in my mind while watching the movie was when did GI Joe start becoming Megaman? Some of the CGI in the film was amazing while in some places it looked half ass done. Overall like I said before it kept me entertained. I went in with the mind set that I wasn't about to watch a movie of the year type movie, but just one where a lot of shit is going to be blown up. I didn't leave disappointed going in with that mind set.

That's how I approached the movie, and I enjoyed it. I only downloaded the movie, since I heard nothing but bad things, but it was decently entertaining. Most of the people who were complaining must have been stupid enough to think it would have been quality cinema, when it was just going for a cheesy action movie; which it delivered on.

Those same people should be reminded that GI JOE and Hasbro used to do GI JOE-themed PSAs in the 1980s, and then ask them if they know how to keep things in perspective.
