Gay Pride Week.... wtf!?

The point is, you are trying to compare celebrating an /event/ to celebrating a community period.

There is no straight parade. But there is a gay parade. Period. Christianity is not the opposite of being gay. that would be Muslim or some other religion, you pick.

Having a whole week just to state the fact that ZOMG IM GAY AND SPECIALER THAN YOU is fucking retarded. Christmas, is celebrating the day jesus christ was born. That is not "christian day" it is christmas. It is a celebration of a special key event.

If someone made a christain onry parade, I'd tell them to fuck off. startign to see my point yet? No? ok let's try once more.

gay parade = celebrating being gay

christmas =/= celebrating being a Christian

Got it yet? Events are meant to be celebrated. christams, st patricks, those are /events/ on a timeline. Like independence day. Or Canada Day. canada day is not a celebration were we all dress funny and get on floats proclaiming how canadian we are. It's a time to pay respect to those that died in war for our freedom.

That's the difference. You're trying to compare to different things.

christmas =/= celebrating being a Christian

Um, what? Christmas (in its non-commercialized form) is celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ, who is the whole reason Christianity exists in the first place.

They are not different things. Christmas would not exist if it weren't for Christians, a group of people who got together and said let's give each other shit for the birth of a guy whose birthday wasn't even during this time. This is no way different then a bunch of gay people getting together and inventing a week period for their own time.

I don't get your reasoning that it has to be a sponsored event with a specific day in history in order to be celebrated. It makes no sense at all.

Puerto Rican day? Yeah.

St patricks day and Christmas though? No. You're trying to compare apples and oranges here. That's religion. Celebrating a point in history is one thing, but celebrating a sexual orientation, or race, or gender in general? no.

Being gay is no reason to celebrate, just like being straight is no reason to celebrate. I'm just zeroing in on gayness due to it being gay pride week atm. You could apply this whole thing to many other examples.

Basically I'll sum it up in this. Asking for equal rights is totally cool bye me. but once you start getting ahead of yourself and expecting more than equal rights, that is wrong.

Christmas is not a celebration of personal preference or embodiment. It's celebrating a specific event that happened (maybe >_>;)

If, say, the gays, for example, wanted a holiday, for, say, the day they got the right to have marriage, I'm cool with that. Why? It's a reason for them to celebrate. Being gay in general, is not.

Don't keep spouting lies to everyone like you did in the bolded. Being straight and getting good pussy is always reason to celebrate!

>_>

Oh for fuck sakes is all I can say. you aren't even reading what I;m writing are you? You're merely skimming over for points to counterpoint, hitting the quote button, and tossing in all these things.

I'd bet money you didn't even consider the points. why? human nature to assume your correct. whatever. I tried three times and you still aren't even trying to co operate, so whatever, I tried, and you failed.

It's simple reasoning. and you aren't getting it, or more, you don't want to get it. Because it might make you wrong, and that would be horrible.

ciao

What is Gay Pride.

Stonewall Inn (2003 photograph), gay bar that was site of 1969 raid which led to the modern gay rights movement.

On June 28, 1969, a group of men rioted following a police raid on the Stonewall Inn, a gay bar at 43 Christopher Street, New York City. The late Miss Stephen Whittaker a transgender rights activist and founding member of both the Gay Liberation Front and the Gay Activists Alliance, is credited by many as the first to actually strike back at the police and, in so doing, spark the rebellion. Further protests and rioting continued for several nights following the raid.

The Stonewall riots are generally considered to be the beginning of the modern gay rights movement.

In the 1980s there was a major cultural shift in the Stonewall Riot commemorations. The previous loosely organized, bottom-up marches and parades were taken over by more organised and less radical elements of the gay community. The marches began dropping "Liberation" and "Freedom" from their names under pressure from more conservative members of the community, replacing them with the philosophy of "Gay Pride"[citation needed] (in the more liberal city of San Francisco, the name of the gay parade and celebration was not changed from Gay Freedom Day Parade to Gay Pride Day Parade until 1994). The Greek lambda symbol and the pink triangle which had been revolutionary symbols of the Gay Liberation Movement were tidied up and incorporated into the Gay Pride, or Pride, movement, providing some symbolic continuity with its more radical beginnings.

me personally i don't care but don't say Straight people don't have parades for being straight unless you know what the hell your talking about.

The reason we do it is well we are considered 2nd class citizens, Marriage, adoption, legal benefits, Health insurance ect.

I think the point that's trying to be made is...

Celebrating a religion is fine because every religion is allowed to be celebrated. And yet, if they made some big thing about celebrating being straight (or white or to a lesser degree male) there would (and has been, for all of the name examples) torches lit over the situation.

And no, wet t-shirt contests or strutting in speedos isn't celebrating being straight, it's celebrating being proud of and/or comfortable with their body.

It is fairly ridiculous. It might vary depending on where you live, but it's a fairly large issue in many places.

Hey, even gamers get their own week! (actually, several during every year!)

Whaddacrap?!

Disclaimer:
A whole bunch of uninformed stuff he doesn't really know anything about.

Gay pride is not about running down the street screaming "YAY I'M A HOMO LOOK AT ME WEARING SOME FAIRY WINGS AND A THONG!!” It's about celebrating those people that fought and gave their lives for gay rights. It's also about standing up, and continuing the fight for equal rights as so many minorities do - we just put some glitter on it.

Not only that, but here in Sydney, our Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras is massive tourist magnet, giving both the Australian tourism industry and our economy a pretty big boost.

What the flame should be about is the people that bitch about Gay Pride when they don't know anything about it, or even more so, the little queens that also have no idea what it's about and think its just another excuse to get fucked up and have copious amounts of unprotected sex :nono:

First of all, I'd like to clairify that I'm gay, was born that way, and always knew I was "different" in that way.

Now, I'm going to get shit flung at me for saying this, but it's my personal belief that you should have pride in things you achieve, not things that you're born into.(Of course, that is debatable if you feel differently about being born homosexual)

Example, I'm not proud that I'm an American, or that I'm gay, or that I have brown hair. I am proud of graduating high school, because it was something I fought for and achieved. I'm proud that I quit drinking soda, because it was having adverse side effects on my health, that's an achievement!

I believe that Gay Pride Week, and whatever may go on during that time, is illogical, and is just another reason people will always see homosexuals as crazy individuals who love to have sex everywhere, with everyone [of the same sex], and make great shopping buddies for girls.

I can't speak for lesbians, however... Because I don't know any, and I've never been one.

Also, I'd like to add that the positive tones of 'Gay Pride Week' are never the ones that are focused on in the media, and whatnot. Just the really bad ones. Like kids getting molested in the streets during the parade.

It all links back to the Stonewall riots in New York City in the 60's, that's where it began. The parades core purpose is to celebrate your homosexual rights and they have every right to do so. I personaly think that half the people do it wrong. Very wrong. There is NO NEED to have middle aged to aged men running naked in the streets, that's ridiculous.

When I was 15, I went to my first parade with some friends. We were eating subway out on the resturants patio set and a topless man walked by wearing nothing but some leathery striped bladed skirt. I'm talking nothing but. Picture black stripe, open spot, black stripe, open spot, etc, 8 times around. CLEARLY see through. To make it worse, his balls were somehow stretched down to his knees. He was so short they could have skinned the side walk perhaps.

That ruined my sub and scared my eyes. Kids are down there too, that shit needs to stop. Be clothed, that's all I ask and that's what should happen, no exceptions.

They are not different things. They aren't celebrating anything in particular though. They are just celebrating them being the way they are. If they were celebrating recent legislations that have happened, than that would be okay, because they are celebrating a point that took place.

It all basically boils down to what is acceptable to celebrate. I feel that if you want to celebrate you being different, that's just dandy, but don't block traffic doing it. Urat feels that you need to celebrate something that actually happened for it to be legit. Lan, it seems to me that you feel like celebrating whatever is cool. Skeith feels that you should only celebrate things you achieve, not things you are born in to. All of these are perfectly legitimate reasons and all come to an "imo" at the end of a sentence.

This thread is so hetero.

When someone shoots a 15 year old kid for being straight, then you can have a special parade all to yourself. And don't feel bad for me, I feel bad for you.

Urat feels that you need to celebrate something that actually happened for it to be legit.

But that's just it. It IS something that actually happened. It's about the start / continuation of the gay rights movement, not just because we're gay. And you know, the gay rights movement has come a very long way, but still has a long way to go, and it would seem that educating people, including a lot of homosexual people, about the history of gay rights would be a great place to start.

Every minority has cause to celebrate with how far they have come with establishing equal rights, why should it be different for the gay community?

Im still waiting for fine ass white boy who drinks good beer, plays video games and digs asian poon day.

Gay pride is big in my town, and I gotta admit was fun the one time I was there (by accident but anywho). Getting my ass squeezed kindda turned me off from going back.

I really didn't know it was about how far they have come, but that is one of the problems with getting all of your information off of the television. I honestly though that Gay Pride Parades was just about being happy with being Gay.

Do you hate ++++++s also.

I don't do pride week or w/e it is.
Minus on QCDN i don't make it a point to tell people i'm gay.
I don't act gay.

I don't care about gay rights. All i want is civil union, and we got that so im good.
