Geez WTF is up with kids nowadays!?

I agree, when talking about violence amoung youths, people always say "Whats up with kids these days?!" like if it just started, it feels like this is new because it wasnt as heavily covered and spread by the media in the past, because well it couldnt be.

Theres always been kids who have these issues imo, and there always will be.

Right, because if you have beef with someone, then it should just be you and that person and nobody else. Like raes said, if you took peeps with you, it was to ensure that the fight was 1v1 and that the other ass wouldnt try to pull something. Nowadays kids cant seem to fend for themselves and follow instead that "mob" mentality of all vs 1. I seriously hope these kids get the book thrown at them for their stupidity, and maybe in jail they will learn the consequences of their actions.

I swear its shit like this that scares me about my daughter growing up and going to school >_< maybe I should home school her or something, or maybe even have her take martial arts.........

I teach BJJ and I swear all of the girls that go there kick ass, they usually end up getting better then the boys. This is around the age of 10-13, I haven't tought much older though. But Martial arts is a great thing for children to learn and it also helps with focus and self-discipline.

I've always been amused by some peoples' thought process here.

"That guy snitched and got me in trouble. Let's do something to him that'll get us all in far more trouble!"

Goddamn brilliant. You just got out, so you rage over having been incarcerated and proceed to do something that'll get you put right back in, right?

Perhaps "gang beatings" need to be handled separately from individual assaults. by this I mean if 5 of you beat the shit out of 1 person, there wouldn't be 5 individuals charged with assault, but instead charge each one of them with a more serious gang beating charge.

heck if 5 people beat 1 person, the charge should be 5 times what an indivual assault charge should be.

Am I the only one who never really got into any fist fights at school?

I had the verbal argument shit down to a science, but always knew when to draw the line between verbal and punches to the face I guess.

Personally I think a screaming match is fucking useless. If I were to get into one either someone is going to throw a punch or I'm not wasting my damn energy, honestly.

And sometimes DW there is no avoiding a fist fight, sometimes it's a matter of knowing that a punch is going to be thrown, question is, is the first going to be you or the other person.

I've only gotten into three fights in my life. One was after a hockey game in high school, which to be honest was more of a boxing match anyway. Players from the other team jumped us in the parking lot on the way to our cars. Another was, oddly enough, at a street hockey tournament in Paducah, KY. 19 year old kid decked me because I kept knocking him away from the net, so I hit him back. Considering I was 24 at the time, and had about 50 lbs on him... I shouldn't have done that, and I'm not proud of it. The third time was with some friends leaving a bar after a night of irish car bombs. My friend was being a dickbag and we got in a fight, resulting in two punches thrown and a lot of staggering around and yelling like retards. Marietta police arrested us and we sat in a holding cell together for 19 hours. I certainly learned my lesson.

Truth be told, I'm too fucking scared to deal with crap today. Seems every kid under the age of 20 who'd be dumb enough to start something thinks they're some kind of gangster, and you just don't know what kind of shit they are going to pull from their jacket. I mean, when I was growing up, I never worried about getting stabbed or shot or sidewalk stomped. The worst I worried about was law enforcement slapping cuffs on me for being stupid.

To be honest, the reason I don't think I've gotten into fights that often is because I do the most to avoid them. Whenever I feel/see shit starting to kick off I just get me and my friends (If I can convince them to move the fuck away) to gtfo.

Main reason. I can't fight.

I like to fight, which is one of the reasons I don't do it. It's stupid, it's dangerous, and these days it's a good way to get shot. Those are the other reasons.

Fights are fun, but I'm too worried about getting sued now a days, seems almost anything can be turned into a lawsuit.

I've never been in a fight either. Mostly because I got along with most people, or if someone wanted to start shit I looked at them like they were a fuckin retard. Not because I was scared, but my school was pretty fucking tough on fights, like one and you could get expelled, and I never figured any shit in high school was worth getting tossed to the curb for.

That's one thing that has definitely changed A LOT. When I was a kid (I'm 33), fighting in school was obviously against the rules and frowned upon, but it wasn't the sort of zero-tolerance instant draconean punishment that it is now.

Hell, when I was in 6th grade, and the teacher literally walked in on me beating the hell out of the class bully (for the record, he was bigger and older than me), he basically just made us stand in the hall. Largely because he liked me, and despised the punk I was dismantling, but there was never any official action on it.

I never liked bullies. I tended to explain the situation to them after a while if they didn't take the various hints I'd drop. Basically, they can either shut up and be polite, or they can fight me, rather than the little kids they generally preferred to pick on. Most of them dropped it there, but a few required more strenuous education.

The one in middle school was far and away the dumbest of the lot, and the only one I had to educate TWICE. High School was pretty easy in that regard, most of them took the hints, only had three or four scuffles, none of them lasting very long.

In fact, now that I think about it, I was never actually punished for fighting when I was in school. Part of it was the fact that I only ever wound up fighting people who were well known bullies and troublemakers, I think. Even so, these days I'm pretty sure things would be handled quite differently. Considering that locally we had a case where a 1st grader with no history of violence brought a camping implement that happened to have a knife on it (he was using the spoon part of it to eat pudding that he brought from home) into school and was promptly suspended for 45 days.

Overturned after mass public outcry, but still. That was the zero-tolerance policy. NO mitigation for circumstances.

One of the dumbest things I see with fighting in school is that you get in trouble no matter what. You can be fighting out of self defense and still receive the same amount of punishment as the kid who hit you first.

Not true in my case. When I was in school, the victim (i.e. Me!) always received the worse part of punishment while the perpatrator always got let off >_>

On topic though, damn, What the hell possessed those kids to do that?!

yeh hexxy us kids these days are terrible arn't we? :P /huggles

just to reply i thought you guys would be interested in the following link. as a paramedic in the same county this happened in i am deeply touched by this whole call. i am also concerned for the well being of juveniles today and disturbed at the fact that these are the same times my 2 kids are growing up in. i see alot of messed up things in my line of work but am very fortunate not to be the one who responded to mikeys call. as a previous dispatcher i commend the one who took this call and praise everyone who came to mikeys side as he suffered /s dearly for what some pieces of crap kids thought would be vengeance over material items. i pray to god for him and his family every day.
warning this is very real audio released: put yourself in mikeys shoes and lets all raise our children right.

I've always said it, I always will, scum should be disposed of from our society.. even if they are just 15, that's old enough to know when something is too fucking far and sick.. death penalty please.

I thought the same thing. Those kids knew what the fuck happens when soak someone in flammable liquids and light a match. If they are old enough to commit such a heinous deed they should be old enough to die. (Or at least treated as adults. Send them to prison... I'm sure they'll have fun.)

I haven't gotten into any fights myself, or I can't call them fights, but I also believe in the 1V1 thing. Damned if you pull some group, knife, or gun bullshit. I'll fight as dirty as possible. I have done it before, when some guy threw a composition book at me and got me in the eye. I just laughed, got up and knocked him out with an algebra book. (Education can help people in so many ways!)

i'm relieved to see that he's doing well and all, but what of the little fucks that did this to him? he's got a long road of recovery ahead of him and his life definetly will never be the same again...did the punishment of those who did this to him fit the anguish he's suffered/continues to suffer?

that's just what i would like to know
