Gimp Setup? Monk

My point was that Vendor's slops are a slap in the face to Monks.
Speaking as a monk, even a well geared monk, it's not a slap in my face given his options. If he just got them and stopped there, you might have a point, but as a stepping stone until he gets better gear, it's fine.

Destroyers (KSNM not AH, but the standard nevertheless), Peacock charm, Scorpion harness+1, Prince's slops, Forager's mantle, Fuma sune-ate. Some of these obviously aren't the best items to have in absolute terms, but are an improvement over what you have already
Honestly, I think a SH+1 and foragers would be a waste of money; 2 more accuracy isn't really worth the price increase, especially when he can put that money somewhere else for better gear. Forager's is just 1 more STR, which is pretty much useless on monk. It'd be a good finishing piece, something to buy when everything else is done, but he's not going to notice any difference from it. Fuma's are a judgement call, I prefer Dune Boots, but some prefer Fumas.

i concur. quite honestly, if ur not doing endgame as mnk ur SoL because thats where most of the goodies come from. af1 legs give u nothing, unless ur constantly taking hate....and with that gear setup, thats highly unlikely. jyaks argument is baseless imo. please do me a favor and keep ur "slap in the face" comments to jobs u've actually leveled high enough to even have an opinion about.

for the record, im taru and 75 BB mnk. that is all.

On the subject of the OP: anything short of absolute peak gear (full usukane, BB, etc) is gimp in the era of two-hander supremacy.

For you id probubly have to aggree that vendors would be best considering you have mostly attack in other slots like hands and earrings. You'll want them to ballance the att/acc ratio.

As for fumas vs dune, Fumans are usually better unless you have +Katt gear and maxed out Katt merrits, in wich case it matches up fairly close, pretty much almost tied. But you'll want af2 legs for that. So id probubly go vendors and fumas.

The only thing i wouldnt agree 100% on is not getting any str gear. yes baj is very correct in saying that str is mostly useless, but thats only if your only using asuran fists. From my experience, howling fists tends to be increadily more reliable on stronger stuff so id recomend keeping a str/vit set up for either heavily D mobs or heavily evasive mobs. Dno if you've ever tried doing asuran on a mamool ja thf, but it sucks lol. My highest spikes have come from howling.

Take none if this info as me saying this is the end all be all way to do it.

And yes i have a 75 mnk, so dont ask.

STR is never useless. Even in ws's without Str as a second modifier at all, its still a primary modifier. A healthy supply of str is always needed. But for a mnk you should pretty much always get it with gear that offers other usefull stats aswell. Like shura head and legs, feet for some races, chiv chain for those who doesnt have faith torque or pcc, potent belt. To totally disregard str is as retarded for mnk as it is for any other melee job.

As for the fuma/duneboots debate, it really is negligable. I had both fumas and dunes, and i used dunes for maybe 1 week. Untill i got my usukane feet i enjoyed being at 25% haste in gear. Usukane is offcourse superior to both. Fumas is a bit easier to get your hands on then Dunes. Dunes arent hard to get, but certanly harder then walking up to the AH.

As for the OP's gear, the only thing that really hurt my eyes are the AF pants, they offer no usefull stats at all. Everything else serves a purpose. Replace them, even if it is with prince's slops or w/e, just get something else with usefull stats in that gearslot right away.

As far as gimp goes, i think you know your gear has room for alot of improvement. But like i said, only your legslot is actually stupid.

I thought for Mnk, str stacking was bad for Ashuran Fists, because you could get better returns by stacking Vit? I read it somewhere on the board quite awhile ago, but i'm sure it was there. The example was something along the lines of Genbu head vs Shura head and Genbu head consistently won out.

um, no.

I believe it was that stacking Str was bad since Asuran's STR mod was only 10%, which is pretty damn pathetic no matter how you cut it.

Again, like i said, you will ALWAYS need str, nomatter the ws. Str is a primary modifier for EVERY single ws out there. And by primary modifier it doesnt mean its the first mentioned in Str10%, vit10%. Primary modifier is what is called fSTR and it is function of difference between your STR and target's VIT. This modifier is always there, and isnt changed by the fact that the secondary modifiers are str10% and vit10% wich agreably is pure shit. Nonetheless, you still need str for your fSTR. So, ill repeat myself again, you will want to get a decent amount of str with gear that offers other stats aswell. I'm not gonna list suggestions again.

As for whoever said vit stacking was better and used Genbu's kabuto as an example, thats a pretty poor example. Point by point, vit will never give better results then str, due to the fact that (yes im gonna say it again) str is BOTH a primary and a secondary modifier. However, if you are able to disregard the need of the accuracy that shura head offers, Genbus Kabuto can come out on top of shura head. This doesnt mean that vit stacking in general is a good idea.

I understand your point but also look at the gear availability in your examples. Chiv chain. Is there a single other decent +attack/acc neck out there mnk can use that you can buy?, not really. Legs, again, no decent +attack legs out there that you can buy. Yes you can get shura but for the OP, we are leaving endgame out of this, otherwise id say get the sea torque and usukane legs. So yes you are going to when you can, want to get +str stuff. It just so happens that the spots that you can get +str in, also happen to be the highest +str spots, and the only good +str spots to use, save for the osode. Osode is probubly the only decent example to use. And there are a few rings.

Honestly thinking about this as i type it, i realise that this argument cant have an answer bc everyone who says str is useless, isnt considering howling fists and how that deals just as good damage as asuran. Asuran is assumed to be used, so you dont want str. You need a good set up for both ws's if you wanna maximise your mnks capeabilities. So really the only true answer i can give you is. max str/vit set up for howling, max attack/acc for asuran.

So quite honestly, str is just as usefull. Your gear set ups are gona be primarily bassed on your WS you use. And since both those ws's are awsome for seperate situations, you cant say str is useless as a mnk.

Mnk can use those +7 acc (?) spectacles or whatever that neck piece is. That is pretty much leaps and bounds above something like CC.

Remember, one should not mention Sxxxxge in a Endgame thread about monks.

About kick attacks. I don't have dune boots and don't plan on getting them. I'm sure people can find a use to them especially with the footwork JA now. But I see a lot of people use them w/o the AF2 legs.

And I'll remind everyone thinking of getting kick attack setup that the Hake Habiki drops from an easy Tier1 ZNM and are almost as good as dune boots (It's its bad drop, the good drop being the elem+3 hMP+3 feets). And doing that you get the Trigger item for a Tier II ZNM that drops Hissho hachimaki, the best head WS piece for asuran fist. Both Nms easy to kill with a few 75 people.

Or one just shouldnt be retarded and think salvage is the only place to look. That sums it up a little bit better. Thanks for trying tho.

you were the one to mention salvage ;p

Ah yes good call i did forget about those, but if your mnk lacks acc that bad that you need 2 more over 3 str and 1 store-tp, then you fail hard anyway lol. But no id say CC is far better then specs.

Leaps and bounds? No. Slightly better? Maybe, it's another personal preference.

Yes. I did mention salvage. What i didnt do however was to pretend like it was the only source of gear to be bothered with. It is also not the only thing to ever come out of my mouth when i bother to open it. Do we really need to go over this once again? Havent i eun you and your friend Pchan in the ground enough yet?

Seriously, just go away.
