Right now, my 21 AH slots are taken by stuff that doesn't sell because of constant undercutting due to the laws of offer and demand.

How do you get 21 AH slots? I've never heard of a way to get more than 7? Any info would be VERY much appriciated ^^

What Kelsilv said =^-^=

I started playing a Taru WHM with a friend, but my friend bailed out due to unorthodox working hours for a summer job, so I started playing Mithra and loved it. I felt like doing some straight-on melee from time to time, so I made a Galka as a third character, which I use as a Bastok mule and gardener.

I really don't know how to respond to this thread...and I'm a lvl 65 drk...would I fall under this category of bad players?

to the other drks who posted here, my rant was aimed at a particular individual more than anything else but i dont name names :P

i wore RSE for a hella long time since i wasnt getting hit and the stat bonuses were extremely nice.

for the love of all that is holy get OUT of that AF breastplate. Its terrible. A 65 drk can make way over 50k and hour just killing crap in Davoi. Sure you might not get to 70 asap but wont that nice shiny haubergeon make you that much of a better drk? (Plus impress all your friends :P) and at 69 you trade it for the hauberk the last piece of body equipment you will ever purchase off the AH. a lot of 'uberleet' equip isnt readily apparent on stat boost but +5str +5dex +10 accuracy is Extremely Noticable if you take it on adn take it off. An item actually worth the money invested *Gasp* plus you wear it forevernever.

Lvl your greatsword when your still 'young', nothing more frustrating than spending 2 weeks in skillup pt's for a weaponskill that totally owns, but you should have had naturally ><!

Making money in this game is not HARD. its TIME CONSUMING. ppl want to lvl, and hell i understand that, but isnt the point of getting a higher lvl so you can have cooler stuff? but you cant afford cooler stuff so why grind for the higher lvl??? Sneaky hit the nail on the head /clap if only ppl actually did that.

I have a mental list of ppl i will not ever invite-to-join-pt becasue i know they are lvl whoring idiots who just want 75. The thing is, once they get it... what is left to do? They cant hunt HNM cuz they would die due to shite equipment, they cant do missions cuz they pissed so many ppl off with their leeching, they made more enemies than friends by stomping on others to get to the top.So they go lvl another job, but now they are in the habit of gimping, so nothing changes adn they still SUCK in any job they play.

I just hope they get 75 get bored adn quit cuz our server will be a much nicer place without them.

I am a drk and I agree with ecks.
I didnt have the patience to get the rse, but for drk it is really good stuff. I also don't have some of the later spells because, to be honest, drks make really bad offensive casters. Drks, after a certain point, are there to cast the absorb spells, drain, and maybe a thing or two here or there. ITs fun to mb your own sc's for instance. So for gear, its really up to you. A drk doesnt NEED super defense, but I wouldnt trust a high lvl drk w/out at least balance rings. I'm 47 drk, but I still use lvl 30 belt for the stat bonuses and I use 30 gloves for the accuracy bonus. The one item where drks can really save money are in mantles. Mantles are in most cases pure def. Later, mantles get pretty good, but for the most part its def, something a drk can do without.
So sometimes out of date gear can be deceptive.

Sorry to be rude...actually no im not since i rarely am...but why would you even bother to try and throw an opinion out on the matter when you are one of the people whom is being ranted about. "I was too lazy to get RSE". That statement is beyond pathetic. Sure I had it hella easy because I just picked the locks, but I dont think that spending a few hours to get about 200k worth of gear is all that bad. Especially if it is as great as you claim.

As far as not getting the spells, yeah they might not be required. Hell Herb Pastoral I have never used once as a bard and do not anticipate using it in the future but I got the song. Now if I am ever in a case where Poison would ruin the world, I can help my party fight it. Not all spells are the focal point spells, but there is not really a reason why you shouldn't get each and every one.

On a slightly different subject. It always bothered me how sometimes when people would check out my gear or find out how much gil I had they say "Wow your so lucky."... what the hell is with that? Sure as a thief I have some advantages over others on making money but it still takes a long time to get the amounts of gil I need to be properly equiped (and as a elvaan thief I have to have the best friggin equipment to be able to compete with mithra and the like at my level) I work hours and take great risks (coffer hunting isnt free gil guys) to get where I am just like everyone else.

rant off.

Puppies are tasty

O_O

high lvl being...?

O_O

sorry im a 69 drk here and i havent seen balance rings on ANYONE since..since...like36.....

yeah dude im ranting about ppl like you -_-;; thx for proving my point

I dont even know what to say; So many of the people replying are probably part of the subject matter here.

Drks, after a certain point, are there to cast the absorb spells, drain, and maybe a thing or two here or there

Yeah, drain is a priority. Dont worry about Stun.

All the Dark Knights ive partied with have had good subs (War,Sam,Thf)

Sorry; but SAM is a shitty sub on *any* job (MNK being the only job that can sub SAM and not completely waste their subjob slot), and DRK/THF is laughable until lv60, where it actually becomes quite good. Why play DRK/THF before 60? So you can do Sneak Attack Vorpal Scythe for 150 damage? What a joke. Are you preparing to become DRK/THF at 60? Another joke. Just sub WAR instead of gimping yourself.

Berserk is the single best attack buff in the game, and Double Attack is your best friend with such a high delay weapon.

Oh; and learn to stun shit, you crappy drks. You get the spell at 35, so when I meet you at 60 and you STILL can't stun out a Goblin Bomb Toss, you need to die.

This subject, these occurrences, were the original reason i finally took a hiatus from lvling. At lvl 40 samurai, i gave up the ghost, after a week solid of spending my valuable time with a Parade of our servers very worst players. I dont mean Asses or douchebags, i mean people who just plain suck at their job. I will say however that not One of them was a dark knight. There were whms in FULL FISHING GEAR, thfs subbing whm, rdms subbed ranger attempting to SC with piercing arrow, rangers with BOOMERANGS, one rdm who did nothing but cast Bio over and over again, and one warr, one......warrior......who was the bane of my goddam existence.

lvl 38, crawlers nest, this warr/nin shows up dual wielding swords, wearing cent armor.... i had on iron scale, having just sold my silver chain for the looks and equal def of iron, and my full lvl 40 gear in my inventory. He couldnt tank, his def was shit, and trying to get him and that goddam thf/whm to set me up for a sneak trick was almost impossible. I ended up tanking, i had better def even when he put on defender, it was a goddamn farce.

Keits, i would like to say to you, personally, as a samurai, i feel your pain, but please, please, please, if you see me headed out to lvl again anytime soon, for the love of god dont /check me >< With all that going on, with all that crap, i head out in tanking gear now, ryl sqrs mail etc. i have all my good sam gear in inventory, in case theres a decent tank, but i just dont and Cannnot trust these other yahoos to do the job, so i plan on doing it for them. I have been forced by these idiots to wear the gear THEY should be wearing, to neglect the responsibilities of my OWN job to cover for theirs...All the gear is there, snipers, gi, kote, leapers, etc, i just havent had a chance to use it yet.
So here i am, running around with 2 and a half sets of full gear, and these asshats are trying to tell me they cant afford new equip... ok numbnuts, i have MY mil worth of gear, YOUR 500k worth of gear, and THAT GUYS 500k worth of gear, all because you insist on sucking....

oh, and Ryfen, no, no you do not qualify as a crappy dark, at least imo, you are on my very short list of those drks of quality, or at least, those who make an Effort and show Interest in Becoming Drks of Quality. keep at it bud ^^

lol, sry ryf, that didnt sound as encouraging as id hoped, its early and im only halfway through my coffee :)

Basically, i can say that the entirety of the Absence LS crew in my experience are all solid, quality players, and fun to boot (see my post about the mighty KO under the Quality Players thread) ^^ I rank your ls and the majority of players in it up there with the Powerhouse Ls's like Fireblade, good people, good players, good times ^^ I had the opportunity a good while back to group with Colo and found him a most excellent samurai, and Anesly is a Fountain of Fishing knowledge. But as it pertains to you personally ryf, you have an excellent reputation, and there are several people in my Ls who have PTd with you multiple times, and always had good things to say ^^ A quality dark knight is a tough thing to find in general, and its not always easy (or cheap), but it Does earn one a nice reputation. The bettering of ourselves as players is a neverending road, one may learn things as a lvl 15 whm that will help you be a better samurai for instance, and like buddha said, the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step :P

Are you preparing to become DRK/THF at 60? Another joke. Just sub WAR instead of gimping yourself.

I dont know if that was directed at me or not, but the short answer is no. I plan on being a Drk/War till 75. I've actually had quite a few people see my subjob and ask me why I'm subbing warrior. My reply is usually something along the lines of "Warrior is the best sub for Dark Knight in my opinion." Warrior IS in my opinion the best sub for Drk. Others see Sam as being the better sub. Thf isn't as great a sub, but out of all the subs to use, its workable and yes it gets much better at higher levels. I imagine a SA Guillotine hurts a good deal.

Why sub Sam? Sure you lose the added defense and attack, you gain the ability to do more weapon skills. Granted this combo isnt really going to help you till you get a really strong WS like guillotine, same with the Thf sub. They arent bad subs for Drk, maybe not ideal, but this game lets you use whatever subs you want. Eventually I'll check out Sam as a sub and see how it works out, to me it looks like it will be a fun sub, but I still think War is the better sub.

Hell a few days ago I was trying to lvl Sam in the dunes and saw a Taru Drk/Sum O.O, I didnt say anything to him.. but got a tiny laugh when I saw him summon carby.

SAM is the best backup tank in the game, and its a shame that more SAM dont carry around Tanking Equipment. If I checked you and saw you decked out to tank, I'd think 100% higher of you than all the pre-60 SAM/Non-WAR wearing shitty eastern gear because it 'looks 1337'.

Samurai can wear the 2nd heaviest classification of armor. We have a B+ (3rd highest) in evasion, A+ In parry, Third Eye, and when subbed WAR, provoke and defender. After lv56, we can eat Tonosama rice to get BOTH a heafty defense and attack bonus (something which no other foods do). SAMs make VERY passable tanks. Of course, more people would know that if they took the hour it takes to research their job, rather than spending that hour doing everything in their power to look cool and/or avoid subbing WAR.

From levels 30 till 60 as a SAM, there is nearly no excuse for subbing anything other than WAR.

DRK/THF is an excellent and smart combo at and after lv60. You seem to illustrate in your reply that you know really understand why. Sneak Attack Guillotine is nice, but its Trick Attack Guillotine that keeps you from getting hate off of this powerful skill.

Why sub Sam? Sure you lose the added defense and attack, you gain the ability to do more weapon skills.

All too comon misconception from people who havent done their reading. SAM Sub will not, and I repeat, will not help you do more weaponskills. Lets see what you would have from your SAM sub at lv60, shall we?

Store TP II - This will give you 1 extra TP per hit. This might add up to something if you hit quickly and often, like a monk, but as a DRK with a G.Sword or Scythe, you are looking at one extra weaponskill every 100 hits. This is pathetic when compared to WAR sub's Double Attack. This will give you an extra attack every 4 or 5 swings that both deals damage and builds another full hit's worth of TP.

Meditate - Did you know that when you sub samurai, you only get 60% TP from meditate, and the reset timer is 3 minutes? You'd be throwing away an ample TP building move like Double Attack and the too-good-Berserk for 60% TP every three minutes? As with Store TP, Double Attack outweighs this. You WILL get more than 60% extra TP every three minute from double attack. The only difference is that you cant call upon it when you need it (and thus you must be patient with skillchains)

Third Eye - This move is just TOO GOOD on jobs that dont get hit often.

Granted this combo isnt really going to help you till you get a really strong WS like guillotine, same with the Thf sub. They arent bad subs for Drk, maybe not ideal, but this game lets you use whatever subs you want. WAR is *always* better than SAM as a sub. WAR and THF are both extremely useful subs on DRK after 60, and I would profess that if you have the time, you should keep both leveled. If you go pure DRK/WAR, dont expect to be very helpful at a HNM fight. Nearly every melee that goes to those is expected to sub THF for Trick Attack to help keep hate on the poor paladins.

Hell a few days ago I was trying to lvl Sam in the dunes and saw a Taru Drk/Sum O.O, I didnt say anything to him.. but got a tiny laugh when I saw him summon carby.

I dont think you are terrible or stupid, I just wanted to point out some things that I felt you should know as I read what you had writen.

Why do rangers without ninja subbed suck? i am a ranger/warrior and i find it to be very effective.

Keits, you and i seem to be on the same page opinion-wise as to the role and duties of a samurai. I do indeed have 2 seperate sets of gear, one consisting of accy/dex and a few str/attk items (minimal, mostly because i couldnt find anything better for those slots), and the other set consisting of tanking gear, hi def pieces like ryl squires and some vit rings, etc. As i said in another post, ive been tanking with my samurai almost non stop since lvl 15, simply because most of the people ive grped with just werent up to my admittedly high standards. If i can hold hate better than a mediocre pally, i will. Damage difference is maybe 10-20 points more to me, so it has yet to cause a situation where the mages were forced into the danger zone having to spam cure me. Now granted, i dont expect to be able to keep this up over the lvl curve, as mobs move upwards in size and damage output, particularly in the area of special attacks, like frog kick and the dreaded elder gobbue's Uppercut, but i do hope that by the time im facing those mobs, the pallys will have learned their jobs a bit better.

And i am definately in agreement with the assertion that warr is the best, if not only, sub for sam. I've played with other subjob combos, specifically thief and *shudder* dark knight. Both were requested sub changes from my grps, thf for garlaige and beetles, where the leader apparently decided sa/enpi was a better deal than voke zerk etc, but i always try to oblige, unless the request is totally outlandish (read: asking a ranger to sub warr for a backup voke Oo). The Dark Knight subbing was requested for BCNM, which i sort of agreed with, it gave me weapon bash and some added attk for a one shot fight. But. I most certainly will not lvl with any sub but warr, i just felt......naked without voke, no real way to grab hate, to control the course of aggro, no berserk, and that def bonus is Very noticable when its gone.....i feel much more secure and confident with warr subbed, knowing i have that emergency trigger in case something goes wrong, the extra def to off-tank a link or add, and that killer zerk to bump up the damage output. Still only lvl 40, so no double attack yet, or defender, but come on, how could anyone pass up double attack, particularly those of us with 400+ delay weapons? Tonosoma + AF, double attack +8....... TP machine.

And as it concerns the eastern gear, lol, and it looking l33t, i skipped most if it, chainmail, iron scale, etc. those bathrobes are for monks imo, jujitsu and master's aside, and i like the looks of the royal squires better anyway ^^ I do love the +accy on my jujitsu, but its defense, honestly, totally blows, its like paper. almost feel like a dragoon in it

But yeah, ive seen alot of people subbed alot of stupid things, wearing alot of out of date/foolish gear....... I just hope by the time i get back to lvling (10k carp 8) ) theyve all deleveled back to lvl 1, or leeched their way to 75 and quit. one way or the other ^^
