God damned CCers

I will say that the title was a bit over exagerated, but at the time I was mad and very frustatrated with the situation. I'm doing a nice thing for him, and its turned around and stabbed in the back.

If everyone just got along on this server, this game would be sooooo much more fun!

If that's your attitude in game then and in real life as well, I'm sorry but you'll be stabbed, many, MANY times in the back then. This may only be a petty thing, but truthfully in real life, everyone will be like this if it's an opportunity.

You are waiting for a job interview. You've been waiting for 1 hour, lets say, due to a queue. Some guy turns up for 3 minutes and gets an interview (say they went down this checklist), and you go in 20 minutes after. You find that he gets the job, not you (and nor anyone else). Would you think you deserved the job then over him? Of course, this isn't exactly the same situation, since it's not up to him who gets the job.

It doesn't matter how you were raised, as you get out into the real world, everyone is your enemy. If there's an opportunity, don't let anyone know. Every person for themself. This applies to in-game too, no matter how much people say that this is only a game, this game involves people in real life too. Now i do not know how old you are, but this is the hard truth.

Of all things equal, you lose. Wouldn't life be more great if everyone got along, agreed to the same religion and no war (etc.)?

Its a video game. No one is going to help a god damn stranger because they were there first.

Exactly.

We did the same in EQOA, but FFXI is different. The named enemies are few and far between, pop less, and are usually too strong for an xp party there to take out. In EQOA, there were so many named mobs and they popped so much that we didn't care. Yes it was nice to get one but we didn't obsess over it. Plus there was the fact that just about every mob in the game had a chance of dropping a rare item.
i played eqoa and the orginal eq, (eqoa nothing like eq btw)
anyway there where things that took alot of people to kill vox, neggy alot diffent things for epic weapons. I think biggest thing is the way se developed there money system in eq you could get alot of money by just killing monsters while in ffxi you have to kill high lvl monster to get money. Also crafting in though games seem to be someone what more useful then ffxi. I think gil seller and the use of the AH has a big part of it as well.

Sorry to say, but this is a horrible example. Unless it's some job that doesn't require a whole lot of evaluation and the first fitting candidate will be hired, it is likely that the better candidate will get the job, however better is defined in terms of that particular job. If they went down the checklist, and some guy is on it and gets called in after 3 minutes while you have been waiting for an hour, then it's clear that you showed up way too early for your interview.

I am truly sorry you feel that way.
There are of course enemies in life, and there will be friends who will turn enemy in the most shocking ways, but to assume that everyone you meet or see is your enemy will imho make for a life full of distrust and unhappyness.

Try it sometime if you like. Sure you will get burned, but what if you still come out ahead...

Yup, playing EQ people respected other people's camps.

This is not EQ. When a reward is harder to come by, the competition for that reward becomes more vicious. Especially between strangers.
Competition is allowed. May the best man win. No trickery was involved. One player just got the claim. NMs that pop rarely and drop rarely are anyone's fair game. Prepping to go camp a popular NM, making the trek, showing up only to see other people there is common. To see other people there and then bow out and say, "My bad, didn't know you guys were here" is a complete waste of time. Fair game is fair game. Making claim has been part of this game for a long time and everyone knows how that goes.

Apples to oranges doesn't really address anything. Not trying to give you a hard time, but EQ comparos don't have anything to do with FFXI.

I tis is true this is not eq. The system of obtaining gear and crafting and even the simple things of selling items, linkshell/guilds, the way gaining money all diffent. (now if only they had game with both eq and ffxi pros in it) Simply put in eq you could survive by just killing mobs but in ffxi just with the daily gear food needed you need be making a slew of cash and unfortanly 98% mobs drop nothing worth any value. so question is can you be civil over a nm camp if your cash flow depends on camping nms.

Indeed. And the point is that it really doesn't matter what the guy next to you is doing. We all know that NMs, should you actually wish to try and get the drop, should be claimed in the quickest way possible.
If you don't, you run the risk of losing claim and you cannot blame the other guy.

One occasion where I camped a certain NM, I was alone the entire time. I knew because I tabbed around fairly often. Somewhere within the minute before said NM popped, it appeared that I was still alone, but someone came in sneak/invised...I could have used speedier methods to claim when the NM popped, but I chose ranged as seemingly nobody was around. To my surprise, the NM turned purple before my X-Bow fired. </3 flash.

Yet, I cannot blame the hunter. He earned it.

Yes, I did say myself it's a horrible example, but between the heat bearing down on my roof and everything, I couldn't think of anything better.

That's true, I do like that quote and have heard it elsewhere before, but I only grew to feel that way after getting screwed over in 2 previous attempts at something (not in-game). While I don't quickly draw the assumption and conclusion, until everyone is satisfied or settled, it's best not to let my own guard down from square one. Until I sense that it's safe I will allow them to move into the "friend" zone, whereas if I detect threats I will strengthen such "zone" barrier.

The world is that cruel. Although I am nowhere near unhappy or depressed (I'm feeling 100% right now anyway), it's a shame that some people are suckers in all truth to let something like this get away.

Dude, Dracoden and I barely know each other.

We made a pact to get 2 PCA's from Argus.

What gave me the ability to trust him and hand him the first PCA that dropped? How did I know he would keep helping me later that week? I honestly didn't, till he kept showing up. But at the time I actually ENJOYED camping Argus. So that's probably why I didn't mind trusting him.

So just becarefull who you help out, definently discuss your objectives of camping whichever NM. Kind of hard to do that when you can't understand the other player, hence your situation.

So, still like camping Argus...? ;)

Ok, as far as camping for 20 hours, have you camped Mysticmaker Profblix yet? How about logging on camping for 2 hours, cause you didnt know when its TOD was, and right before it pops, 5 people show up, decreasiing your chances of claiming down to at best, below 20%? Then coming back later that night, only to have the same thing happen. You live, you learn, you adapt. As far as it popping right by him, that is NOT auto-claim, Ive had Hoo claimed a few times right behind me, and I Flee'd/Voked to claim him from behind someone else. Hoo is an easy camp, and if you had one other person to deal with, maybe you need to step up your camping skills. O btw, it is a VERY inefficient way to make gil, or even to get the item. Even with TH2 I got maybe 1/8 or 9. Go farm, go gather(harvesting has been very good for me with Cloth, made 200k or so in like 2 hours, which is better gil/per/hour then camping Hoo). There are rules in this game set forth by its designers, this person didnt break any of those rules. If you dont like it, do something else, or stop playing the game.

actually i have went 1/13 on mine then 3/5 after i got mine. In my experince it dont seem that th helps on that drop

Not getting claim is part of the game, do you expect to claim the mob that you're going after every single time? I'm a nice guy in the game, but when it comes to farming shit, you gotta put kindness out and get your game in. No one's gonna give you a chance if they're after the same thing, hell, if I saw a NM pop before me I too would go after it, I guess it's that "Impossible to Gauge" message that just clicks, but everyone is out to make a few gil here and there, or maybe add some equipment to their artillery. If you don't get claim, then hey, just come back before it pops again and try again, eventually persistance will pay off, and if you can't stand competition, you might as well start crafting or maybe play a game that doesn't involve online play.
