Just saw the teaser on the spike video game awards(only watching for the trailers), and I have to say I wasn't impressed. It was only a 20-30 second teaser, but the graphics were not what I've come to expect from the PS3/360; it's just a little cleaner than god of war 2.

I have no doubt that I'll get it and enjoy the hell out of it; but the graphics just aren't that impressive; especially after hearing about how developers/publishers were raving about the graphics. I'm just curious if anyone else saw something that I missed or something.

The visuals looked very average in that trailer. I am guessing it will improve.

Yea you know how these things work, like demos it's just a taste of what's to come. There's usually glitches and bugs to iron out as well as fine tuning of all things badass before the final product.

Still it was very close to a PS2 games visuals... There is no way Sony would let this game look less pleasing then their current games. Maybe they should have just held this trailer back for a while.

While that's true, it's the gameplay that gets 99% of the fixes. The purpose of the demo is to drum up interest, but when they're showing something that's marginally better looking than the previous generation's version; it's not something they can really fix. The level of graphics rarely undergo any significant change from demo > release. Look at killzone 2, they went with the best graphics they could get, just to drum up interest. They don't go with crappy graphics(for what the console is capable of) as the initial teaser for a major IP.

I remember seeing an interview with David Jaffe, and he said that it looked better than gears of war 2; and based on that trailer, he was smoking something, not paying attention, or looking at the gears of war 3 trailer. I'm sure the game will be lots of fun, but just graphically, it's a let down so far.

Is this one different from the one shown at E3?

(Is the last line by Kratos "In the end, there will only be chaos"?)

Eh, it doesn't seem bad, but ya, not up to par of what the PS3 or 360 could do so I'm guessing that's not the game's finished graphics lol

It was an actual gameplay trailer at the awards Tyrath.

I think Jaffe came out before this trailer(which I haven't seen and don't really care to), and said that this trailer is NOT what he's talking about, versus what he'd seen earlier. If that means he saw CGI and mistook it for gameplay, or this is a really stupid trailer to release because it doesn't show where they're at now.. is anybody's guess. It's a question of if you think it's more likely the creator of the series doesn't know gameplay from CGI, or if you think the Sony marketing guys are dumbasses and released video from a not so great build.

Myself, as I have little interest in God of War, demand at least an audio/video triumph in order to get me to play through it.

So that really was what Jaffe was talking about, and that is the final graphic level? What a massive disappointment, so much for Jaffe's credibility.

Does anyone actually believe they aren't by now?

This is for sure well known by now... The goat head shit from GoW2... I mean wtf were they thinking back then...

No Jaffe came out before this trailer released, and said this is NOT what he saw, and what he saw looks better. Which means he either saw CGI and thought it was gameplay, or this is from an early build, hence the marketing mishap speculation.

Actually, it was after this trailer was released, it wouldn't make sense beforehand. If he's right, then their marketing department is run by idiots, "hey, let's show something that's not representative of our product!" I'm very doubtful that it's going to be nearly as good as what he's talking about; unless he just means a cut scene, which is completely irrelevant for comparing game graphics. If they really have the best graphics ever, they need to show it off soon before more doubt spreads about the quality of their game. Nip it in the bud.

Do we really need them to hype the graphics? It's God of fucking War!!! Even if the Graphics aren't what we would expect it'd kick our asses with Kratos' preposterously manly jawline and the oh so awesome use of the "fuck you" button =3

So what if this trailer wasn't what Jaffe said he saw, in the end we should just expect this, God of War 3 will be incredible even if the graphics aren't what we would expect. Besides we don't know when the release date is so whatever they have planned means they have time to finish tightening the last few nuts and bolts of gameplay and ass kicking pwnage and finish giving the game the last few bits of polish made of blood and gore from Greek monsters that Kratos has slaughtered time and time again >=D

So far the developers haven't gone wrong with this series and they will end this serious just like they did with GOW and GOW2. With Kratos murdering Gods in the most gruesomely beautiful way possible.

Do we really need them to hype the graphics?
Yes, we do. When graphics has been a major selling point for games on the system, as well as the creator saying it's the best looking console game ever, they should be wow'ing the hell out of us with the game graphics. Jaffe's interviewed response to God of War 3 was "holy, holy, holy, holy, holy fucking shit." I should be using at least 3 holy's when I'm seeing the game; and I'm not even using one.

So what if this trailer wasn't what Jaffe said he saw, in the end we should just expect this, God of War 3 will be incredible even if the graphics aren't what we would expect.
I'm not a fan of developers praising their own games to high heaven, only to have the game not be nearly what was promised; graphics included. This wasn't even close to the killzone 2 trailer, and for Jaffe to say it's the best-looking game ever, it'll have to be better than that standard.

That argument has been tried before, and it fails just as much now. Yes, they're not done with the game; yes, they can make improvements. No, a major upgrade in the graphics of the game will not be one of them if they want to have a chance in hell of meeting their deadline.

They're not going to do a complete overhaul on the engine and art this late in the game; there will be some polish, but no amount of polish cranks the game up from high-end PS2 graphics to high-end PS3 graphics.

So far the developers haven't gone wrong with this series and they will end this serious just like they did with GOW and GOW2. With Kratos murdering Gods in the most gruesomely beautiful way possible.
You can drop the "fanboy forgives everything" attitude already; I've already said that I'd play and enjoy the game just like the last two. The fact that the game's going to be fun is completely irrelevant and just shows you're either not paying attention or trying to divert attention away from what's actually being discussed.

Graphics are the only concern here, graphics and what Jaffe was promising during that interview; and how neither of them were reflected in that trailer.

Just to throw this out there, but Jaffe isn't working on God of War 3, I suspect he's working on an unannounced Twisted Metal for PS3.

And...

Before the trailer was released, he saw the trailer that was going to be released, and stated it wasn't what he saw.

After the trailer was released, he said that what he saw was only several days old, the trailer is from old footage.

The fact that the game's going to be fun is completely irrelevant

Sometimes I really do wonder what gamers play for anymore..

Personally, I don't care about graphics. If its a good game, it'll be a good game with or without super graphics. If its anything like the last 2, I'll be happy.
