God of War 3 Preview

Ok, I stand corrected, they actually have impressive looking graphics in the game.

I'm also completely flabbergasted at the absolute shittiness of their marketing department; with all of the previous released media(videos, pictures, DEMO's) that were horribly unrepresentative of the final product. Especially for a game where the creator has come out and said he thought that it was the best looking game ever. That has to be the worst marketing group of all time, they've done absolutely nothing until right now to drum up interest for the game other than just say a new god of war was coming out.

I have to agree with you. As someone new to the series (I plan to buy GoW3) I did look at trailers and think "ok, so it looks fairly decent but it doesn't look THAT good."

Considering that this will probably be the biggest exclusive this year, Sony may have wanted to keep tight lipped about things until they were sure that they could blow people's minds at how awesome it really is. That kind of deal could seem questionable to some, but then again, the Build that was shown at E3 was an earlier build, a teaser, something to garner some curiosity without giving away too much.

In any case though, these screens look freaking awesome. I'm glad I've pre-ordered the God of War Trilogy Collection, even if it does cost £110, though thinking about it, considering what it may cost to get the collectors edition goodies alone, the Trilogy seems like a steal.

To prove my point somewhat (by my own estimations):

GoWIII: £40
CoW Collections: £30~
Trilogy Soundtrack: £20-£30
DLC: Unavailable
Art cards: Unavailable
Pandora's Box: Maybe £80 alone. (Can't say for sure until I get it myself, but I doubt it'll be like the quality of the Batarang that Batman: Arkham Asylum had)

All that probably separately probably would've cost nearly £200, maybe.

Well, whatever, not long to go now anyway. =D

That's not being tight lipped though, that's horrendous marketing. Tight lipped would be like Nintendo, where they don't show anything until closer to release. GoW3 showed poor quality graphics(for what the system could do) while bragging about how beautiful their game was; that's far more likely to put off prospective buyers with how full of shit you sound than the "wow factor" would bring in when the final quality is revealed.

I'm tempted to get the Trilogy collection, if only for Pandora's Box itself. It'll look good on my mantle next to my batarang and my master sword.

Technically, the Trilogy edition is UK only. There's a similar Collector's Edition for NA, but minus the God of War Collection.

Edit: May as well also say Square Enix did the exact same thing with FFXIII. The trial version that was released look really good, however it didn't look quite as good as what it could be, but looking at the final game, that was a huge improvement.

Then again though, Sony, nor Jaffe, stated that the E3 build was representative of what the final product would look like I believe.

No, but that's a complete cop-out. If you're bragging about how good your game looks, but every screen shot, video, and demo you show has mediocre graphics at best; while you're not outright saying it's representative, you're inferring it pretty damn hard.

You're giving far too much credit where it's absolutely not due. Their marketing team sucks, the developers are fine, the game will be fine, just how they've marketed it up to this point is not. That will most likely change in the near future with the release coming up; or at least I'd seriously hope it will.

Just a point, if you're paying £40 for a game for the PS3 or Xbox (especially the Wii) then you are getting ripped off hard.

Also £30 for 2 PS2 games? Are they downloadable or on a PS3 disc or something? And have they been enhanced into HD or anything. If that's the case I'd say £15 is quite good for each game.

Both on one Blu Ray disc, enhanced into 720p HD, 60 Frames Per second, with enhanced textures, music and sound, with trophy support (Two Platinum trophies).

In any case though, £40~ is usually the standard price here anyway.

Yeh that sounds worth the price then.

Also for games, and DVDs actually you may want to try these http://www.shopto.net/

If you order before 5:30PM you get guaranteed next day delivery. Found for the most part they are also cheaper than play.com and amazon.co.uk

Although they still have God of War 3 at a pricey price (lol).

The visual improvements and comments that Jaffe made early on are starting to show now. The Leviathan sequence and Chronos sequence shown are just amazing. Not that the fight with Hades and the other little battle stuff they have shown dont look great... Just those other two scenes are incredible and clearly show that next notch of gaming quality.

Also as much as i HATE timed button sequences because they tend to make you miss out on whats happening in the background... It looks as if in GoW3 the required button at the time is shown near the focal point at the moment on screen. I cant tell you how much i appreciate that.

That being said i must LOL at one of the devs in the video saying you cant just beat the game by hitting square, square, triangle. Its obvious he is familiar with the other GoW games lol... And dont lie to me! I better not be able to just mash through the game, again.

Yeah that was completely amazing. GoW3 was a game I figured I would get anyway, but after watching that footage, holy crap! It looks so friggen awesome I can't even believe it. It's visually stunning. Not to mention I like all the new additions they've added, which we probably haven't even seen all of them.

Secondly, the trailer for the new Transformers game looks like this might be the first great Transformers game in history. Here's hoping.

Wow that looks so sweet :3 downloading the demo now, can't wait to try it

Yeh this looks pretty awesome. It's on my list, along with Heavy Rain, Pokemon Heart Gold >_> and FFXIII. Fuck why so many games out so soon :')

Just played the demo earlier and it's fucking sweet.

Played both this and the Dante's Inferno demos and I have to say I was more compelled to play the DI game than the GoW game. Not entirely sure why... story perhaps?

GoW is definitely graphically superior to Dante's Inferno and the creativity with the flying sequence and platforming via stabbing into the insides of a bird was pretty cool but idk...I think I'd buy Dante before Kratos based on the demos alone. This coming from a guy who has never played a GoW game.

Just finished the demo. The graphics were nice, and the flying sequence brought up memories of never finishing the Millennium Falcon sequence in Rebel Assault II, but I didn't really enjoy it.
The static camera bugged the hell out of me, with every attempt to adjust the camera being met with a roll dodge instead.
The violence also struck me as borderline offensive in terms of how bad it was. To compare, I had played the first God of War when it came out, and I wasn't quite as disgusted back then as I am now.
I think I'd sooner pick up Yakuza 3, a demo which I found myself enjoying, before this game.

I remember the original GoW being that violent, and amplified for the second, and even more amplified for the third. That's one of the reasons I love it for how violent Kratos is.
And you could never change the camera angle in the previous 2 titles, I've grown used to it, plus rolling around was always done with the right analog stick.

I know they were, which is why it's rather disappointing to me. I get that rolling is mapped to the right thumbstick, and it clicked with me back when I played the first one, but this time I just can't understand it at all.

GoW is a series you definitely need to start from the beginning if you are going to enjoy it for the story. It's a trilogy and they have continued the story from each game unto the next, where as this one directly picks up with the end of the second game. Starting off with GoW 3 is like only watching the 3rd Lord of the Rings movie (and not having read the books at all). You just shouldn't do it.

So basically, you should buy the God of War Collection for PS3 and play through GoW 1 & 2 (in high def - which applies to the music and sound). I have the collection so I'm planning on finishing both games before I actually buy GoW 3, but holy hell am I looking forward to owning this game. I'm still not finished beating GoW 1, but back when that game was new I watched a friend play through most of it and watched him beat it, though nothing is quite like doing it yourself.
