Good times for you!

I'm not blind to the jumble of consistency myself. If we do nothing, someone, such as Jamal, reports it and inflames the situation. If we start becoming proactive, people get angry that we start poking the rules too literally.

What in God's name do you want? I can read the context of posts. Hellstorm's ideas get repetitive fast, and everyone tells him the same thing, yet he still won't drop his argument. What am I supposed to do? I can understand someone getting pissed off, but the rules definitely say flamebaits are not allowed. If something so concrete as a flamebait is defined in the rules, then the definition of what it means to flamebait can not change from user to user, context to context.

STFU randomename - Flamebait
randomname's idea is idiotic - not flamebait.

Attack the idea, not the person? That what a flamebait is? I'm beginning to think QCDN wants the whole place to become a flameboard.

And more than anything, I really wish people could just calm down, breathe for a little bit, maybe take a swig from the water bottle, and just come to these forums for a good time instead of trying to define what shitty moderation is. There is no reason you should have to be pissed off at something you do in your leisure.

People will always find a way to bitch about something they are not directly involved with,
No matter what kind of system you implement, some people will like it, some people won't.

Mods are not being paid to do the modding, they are volunteering their time to do so.
Quite frankly, I do think they are doing a pretty good job even for the fact that I see only 2 mods that are active.

Sometimes you DO just need to find the middle ground on an issue, and stick with it. But you DO need to be consistent in it, and especially recently, you just seem to be over and under-reacting to everything, almost as if you're TRYING to do it wrong.

The issue in the case of hellstorm is that his ideas ARE who he is, they're insuperable. You can show him time and time again WHY he's wrong, and for multiple reasons too. But he'll just keep coming until people finally give up and just tell him where to get off. Recently that give up point happens sooner and sooner, because after years of it, we're just getting sick of it. Frankly I enjoy laughing at how stupid he is (and I enjoy telling him so too) but others are just annoyed now, rather than amused. He's old hat, much in the way Peregrine was, except he's less intelligent.

No, I want the flameboard to be used for what its supposed to be, and I want topics that get to that point to be moved there.

There IS a reason for me to get pissed when the place I choose to spend my leisure time starts getting shit on by lazy moderation.

Marajade, everyone is thinking it so i'll just say it.

Quit being a bitch.

Mods do this in their free time, im pretty sure they don't get paid. So i think any effort is decent. If you want to do it differently then make your own forums.

even for the fact that I see only 2 mods that are active.

Half of them are doing behind the scenes work (Cmndrfly for example) which is all fine and dandy, because their work is visible in the end (board improvements, and so on)

There's plenty of people willing to actually put the time in, paid or not, so that's a pretty shitty excuse for laziness.

Who the hell do you think you are anyways.

As I said earlier, you can add people to an ignore list. IF you choose not to do so, and flame that person in an area it isn't allowed, you should be held accountable. "Just because a chick wears sexy clothing, doesn't mean she wants you to rape her." The "he's asking for it" arguement is stupid.

And by the way...

I wasn't thinking it. I think you do have some good points Mara. This is a good time to excercise your ignore list rights, right here.

Lazy implies I lack the motivation and desire to do the job. There is no lack of either in each respective case. It is so easy for the users to pull the consistency card, but what about the diligent users here that care enough to provide inflammatory statements? Where's your consistency?

I tried a firm hand to stop the roiling in the inconsistencies, but then you began nitpicking one action from another.

No, it isn't being lazy. The problem is nothing I try to resolve a situation pleases everyone. I can start locking/moving threads instead of giving infractions and that will please yourself and Rappa. I've got no problem with that, you both seem to be good members here. There is a reason you haven't had much interaction with anyone from the mod staff. However, then I will get other users bitching that user-x keeps breaking the rules and should be banned. Well god damn, it seems that'd put me back to square 1. I know my side of the story is pretty easy to see, what I can't seem to grasp is the solution to please everyone.

Then have them do it better if they are so willing, you critique these people on how well they do it for it being their hobby. This is a community, but the flameboard is turning it more into a Civil War.

-- And i guess i'm no one. Not on QCDN anyways.

I think my first point got lost in my head somewhere...

Users here call for consistency on behalf of the moderators, but what about the consistency of users the moderators have to deal with?

The issue becomes that this board is read by people who DON'T already know that he's full of shit. Its like Zam. We all know its full of idiots, but the people who go there don't. Heck, when I was first starting out I read Zam, and I paid the price for it.

Ignoring idiots doesn't make them go away, it just lends their arguments credence because thats one less person showing everyone else that he's wrong.

Just saying people can show a little more appreciation and a little less complaint.

I'm sorry, but I think when people tell Hellstorm to stfu, it's more for personal gratification. Honestly, telling me that Skaw was only trying to "look out for the newbies" is kind of a hard pill to swallow. Hellstorm posted something stupid, Skaw called him out. I get it, and don't disagree with what Skaw said, but just how, when, and where he said it. It had nothing to do with performing a public service.

Even so, I still think they are putting in some effort to try and keep the board from breaking down even more.
If the mods let everything go to their own devices, every single thread will be shat on, flamebaited, and derailed to no end.
At least in my eyes, they are trying to lessen the damage control.

I'm pretty sure this thread would have been moved to the flameboard sooner or later due to some people's opinions of Jamal. Hence, I think that's why Miros moved it in anticipation.
I know of a few instances that some people crapped on other ls' accomplishments or good times just because it isn't new to them.
In the end, there was no repercussion to the crappers. Is this anything new?
As far as I know, it isn't.

If it's been happening all this time, then I don't expect it to go away overnight.
Changes take time to implement because some people are going to get butt-hurt about change and restrictions saying that it's an abuse of the mod powers.
If you think you can do better, then why don't you become a mod?

Honestly, people who complain the most are the ones that don't take action.
This is directed at anyone in any situation so don't take it personally.

this pretty much sums it up.

Not to nitpick, moreso to point out: Excim's 'in-context' reading of Skaw's post has a different meaning that mine. 'In context' consistent moderation is what is being asked of us. Would not the difference of what he understands the post to mean, from what I understand it to mean, not pose a problem with the 'consistency' part of your request?

I can agree with that, just next time, how about a little more maturity, and a little less 9th grade? People will back you up more.

I was trying to be QCDN cool, too much? =[

This being moved to the flameboard is retarded considering there aren't even any flames in it.
