Got My Soul Calibur IV

I thought 3D fighters were for total fags and were totally stupid. But then i played Soul Blade on the dreamcast and i've been in love with the series ever since. I recommend to anyone.

Yeah, I agree with them. Soul Calibur feels a bit different from your typical 3D fighter, I'm not sure what it is that makes it attractive to even non-fighter fans. The weapon-based system, the ridiculous voices/narrator, or the gameplay itself. It's pretty quick paced, I would recommend you atleast give it a shot.

Would you guys recommend this game to someone isn't a huge fighting game fan?
Yes and no. Yes, because I generally hate fighting games, but I love this series. The character creation is awesome, and as you play more you unlock more gear that you can use to make your character with.

No, because the inherent cheapness of the computer can be frustrating at times; especially for a new/inexperienced player. Also, because they stripped out most of what made this series really fun and unique. The fighting mechanics are still there, but they stripped down the single player into arcade mode, arcade mode with only 5 fights(called story, yet there's no plot at all), and the tower of souls.

The AI isn't that bad, just the apprentice is a mofo. Story is easy as hell though, and if you know what you're doing arcade can be easy as well. Tower starts easy but gets ridiculous.

If you've never played it before I'd recommend renting it, or maybe even buying SC2/3 before hand. I had never played them before (only fighting game I ever played was Dead or Alive) so I bought SC3 a few months back to try it out and loved it. Its pretty similar other than the story mode sucks compared to SC3, its easier/harder depending on what you're playing and it looks 100x better.

No, the AI really is that bad. They introduced the soul crush system because the computer turtled like no tomorrow in previous games, and the soul crush system doesn't really solve this problem. The Apprentice is the worst offender, but the computer is cheap as all hell.

Well I went and bought it. I haven't owned a SC game myself since SCII. The story mode is a joke. Its so easy and has a real lack of story. I see the real challenge is fighting other players online. The tower seems like it will become challenging.

I get frustrated when I'm playing online and the game lags in such a way there is a delay in all my commands. If there is a fix for this let me know.

How do I do the super soul attacks?

I hit all the right buttons & my guy just shakes his head. D: h8

That's what they do if you try to do the critical finish before you break the soul gauge. You have to have them block enough attacks to turn the colored orb next to your health bar from blue/green to blinking red. After it blinks red than you only need a few more hits until you break their guard, and then you use it for a critical finish.

Pro.

Also does it make a difference when your orb is blue and your gauge is flashing white, or does that just mean your gauge is REALLY full.

Flashing White means its really full, and you can only get it by having that add-on from create-a-character that gives you a soul gauge bonus level B, A, or S.

I'm pretty sure that level C will only up you from Green to Blue at start and not make it flash. I don't feel like testing, because there are so few set ups where a bonus to your soul gauge is actually more helpful than something else.

Separated at birth?

I finally got a chance to play it next week and... Soul calibur has been turned into a porno game! Why is it that every 10 seconds a person's top falls off? Oh and the gameplay was similar enough for me to not get my ass whooped upon picking up the controller.
I didnt even play ivy yet. how is she supposed to find any fabric to actually lose?

Ivy has armor on her arms, I'm sure she loses those :P

Makelith left out that in addition to flashing red soul guage, you need to break a peice of your opponents armor.

I made an awesome custom character when I was playing on Seph's SCIV ^_^ I'll see if I can get a picture later, I'm sure many of you will lol =3

That is very true, but i've never actually gotten that far in to red or flashing without having already broken off a piece of armor. Is it possible?

I've done lots of critical finishes, but only with the gauge starting loow >_>

Yeah. I usually just do an unblockable attack if someone is turtling. Its loads easier and is much less time consuming. That's why i'm on about 3/50 critical finishes needed for the achievement, lol.
