Graphics Comparison Xbox 360 vs PS3

They already have. If you do everything he's done to search for Xbox 360 fuck-up's you'll find the same things about the PS3 and it's freezing problems. Hell, Elemmire posted about a week or two ago about having problems with hers.

Think you're talking about the Warhawk freezing problem, and thats software bugs from it being a beta.

Mine's frozen once, playing the Ninja Gaiden demo.

Though demos seem to be a source for a lot of the PS3 problems, there are a lot more things mentioned. Warhawk wasn't the mention of anything I read though. Ele said her problem spawned during playing Oblivion. However, like the 360 ones, you can't really prove whether they are real problems, user problems, or fake problems from other fanbois. I always say, if it doesn't happen to me or force a re-call, it either doesn't exist or is a user error.

Excuse me for not knowing much about some of these tech stuff, but if needed could some information needed to help run larger games be put on the hard drive for X360? I know this would suck for those without a harddrive but would it be possible?

simple answer, no, not for a long long long long time if ever.

No need for this. Hell, most games don't even fill up regular DVD9's much less Blu-ray or HD-DVD's yet. The only reason you'll hear of games filling up a disc is because instead of compressing data, they can just leave it uncompressed in some instances.

Bring DooM3 to 360 and it will NEVER play in the special High rez setting. Because of this the Xenos is deprived

News flash: 360 is leagues ahead of Xbox classic and DOOM3 was on Xbox classic. Yes it got a graphical downgrade and yes the frame rate wasn't so hot, but based on the FACT that DOOM3 was on the Xbox classic and looked COMPARABLE to the PC version on medium settings, I wouldn't be surprised at all if DOOM3 could run on the 360, maybe not 100% uncompressed like the PC version's maximum setting (note that on DOOM3 PC, the difference between High, Very High, and Highest graphics lies SOLELY in compression levels, NOTHING else) but I seriously doubt it would need any sacrifices at all.

A system's graphical output never, ever, EVER has anything to do with the size of the media. Ever. 0% of the time. (well, you could make a case for systems with trauma-inducingly tiny storage ie a floppy disc based game on a 360 but that'll never happen)

Just look at PS1 vs. N64 for "proof". N64 was completely outclassed in storage compared to PS1, but N64's games were comparable length (with the exception of RPGs because N64 kinda barely had any at all) and tended to have better graphics (note: tended to. aka not every time, but in general n64 games look better). You can also use GCN vs. PS2 & Xbox... GCN GODs have about 1.35GB maximum effective storage, compared to the DVD9s that PS2 and Xbox can use... GCN's graphics most definitely did NOT suffer as a result.

Xbox 360 will probably continue to have comparable if not better graphics on average - similar to N64. The real standouts on the PS3 will probably be ones that abuse extremly CPU-centric effects which a GPU cannot do, for example Resistance's glass-shattering physics.

With anything directly related to GPU prowess - texture resolution, AA levels, mip mapping/texture filtering quality - the 360 will come out on top on a technical level, regardless if the game is on a CD-ROM or shipped directly on a modified hard drive. There are physical, hard limitations to what graphics chips can do, regardless how much memory you throw at them. You could stick 10GB memory into an Xbox and install a blu-ray disc player in it, and it'd still have graphics that are nearly indistinguishable, as a whole, from the top GCN and PS2 games because that's just the limitation on what the hardware can do.

protip: Oblivion is more hardware intensive than Doom 3.

And Doom 3 is playable on the 360. Hell, it looks the same as the PC version on my 360. On the normal Xbox it looked great, the only difference I noted was more jagged edges on close textures. They seemed to have taken care of that when they made it compatible for the 360.

Do i even have to tell you anything at this ponit ?
No ? Because you're wastefully trying to school me as always ?

Do keep in mind i'm responding to you because i care about the others who might follow you down that silly path you walk, because they think you're as bright as you make yourself out to be.

And for what reason won't it be able to handle on the 360 when it's 100% uncompressed ? I know i said it won't handle either, but what's you're reason for thinking so ?

Sure, and all models and textures used to make visuals in an entire game will also fit on a floppy of 2.

I know all about CG file sizes. If you think there is no increase when trying to run real time renders you're sadly mistaken.

On the PS1 the textures were compressed to suit the hardware, and the models were at a lower poly setting for the hardware. It was also able to play real music while playing, and display video aswell.

N64 was pure game, and it did have better graphics. Nintendo lost Squaresoft to Sony because because Sony had the hardware to make the type of game Squaresoft wanted to put out. N64 media did not have the space for FFVII.

The ATI Flipper inside the Cube had automatic bump mapping which brang the method of "procedural textuing" to a new level when it came to real time rendering. It did not use image files as textures as many other games on XboX and PS2 did. There are reasons why Microsoft went with ATI. Good reasons.

We already covered that already. It's easier for me to tell you to go back and read rather then repeat myself.

As a reminder 360 and PS3 can only be compared on the multiplatform games. Games that are made to suit the 360's constraints, then PS3 gets a copy. Again the difference is only noticable when comparing side by side digital screen shots, and the Xenos does beat the RSX but only slightly.

lol Regardless. sure all the artist has to do is press the make pretty button and everything looks awesome on it's own.

Everything i write you don't even bother to research.

You don't get something for nothing. You don't get better graphics, just because you have more powerful hardware alone. You need files to make use of that hardware. Yesterdays games on tomorrows GPU does not look better. they run better yes. But graphically it looks the same. It's a matter of what the GPU is running, and today the best graphics demand large files to prouduce better graphics, compressed jpeg does not work in High defination land. You Tagrenith need to wake up.

I'm a CG artist, don't make me wave everything i know about modeling and texturing in you're face, it's wrong to bully the weak, and wave a degree and experience at them. But you need to learn to stop talkng shit to me, cause i deal with these things on a personal note for a living.

Example: Gears of War could have been made for CD media. But it dosn't matter it would have turned out the same because "Tagrineth thinks highend textures and models with a more dense mesh is all tiny, espeically when the goal is to create games for 1080p High Def. But no the game is on a DVD9, it could not have been better lol."

Meanwhile i'm the one who can tell YOU how much space 100,000 poly faces take up, and what the various differences is between tri's and quads are. I can also tell you how large none Procedural textures are and can be. It's not worth my time to even discuss what problems i come across with you. I'm too far down the road from where you are. All i can do is teach you, and if you even had half the will, i could teach you how to deal with problems you'll never come across as you are now.

The Xenos is a good GPU, it is not below the rest of the systems hardware. But the media is lacking in space therefor the Xenos will not obtain the type of files (smoother models + higher-end shaders and textures) to put out more visuals than what we will see (hell, what we see coming) on the PS3.

Talk is cheap. show me what the systems are doing.

Then why does Gears of War require a DVD9? The timesplitter games have, much much more actual gameplay on them but fit on a regular DVD.

If all you need to do is compress, and you don't notice compression, why not compress Gears of War onto a 1 sided DVD? If there's 0% advantage to additional storage media why spend an extra penny on dual layer?

I mean fuck, 6 hours? There are equvalent games 5 times longer for DVD out. Put it on a CD!

You're so fucking stupid.

And on a sidenote: My PS3 has never froze except for Warhawk. I play it to the fucking ground, and I fall asleep with it on not caring to turn it off. The Warhawk is obviously a software bug, because the framerate never ever dips, even when in a battle between 30 people all at once. It just freezes all of a sudden randomly, often when nothing straining is going on.

Well your 360 broke and they replaced it, well it's good they honor their legally binding warranty, just remember they've yet to fix the fucking hardware bug, even the elites are breaking. Do you think if yours breaks out of warranty they're giving you free replacement and shipping?

Was your replacement even brand new?

Serious question, and no need to comment if you're not being retarded over graphical differences you need to try hard to see after even being told of them... but do any of you bashing the PS3's images even have a HDTV? A yes or no will suffice not a rant.

I was unaware there was a difference when looking at side by side(or rather, under/over) screen captures on a computer display.

o wait

There isn't.

You can either answer the question or not.

If you don't have an HDTV, it's probably 100% impossible the tell the difference in versions. If you have an HDTV, the versions are still almost identical.

Considering I have an HDTV and if you popped in a 360 or PS3 version of any multiplatform that's been out(except Oblivian) I won't be able to tell the difference, and I still value the PS3's blu-ray as a movie player. Anyone who is enough of a video freak to tell the difference is going to want a high def movie player even more than me. Hence added value in the PS3 package anyway.

Jesus Christ, you're a retard.

Comparing screen captures online is no different than comparing games side by side on actual TVs. Asking people what their consoles is hooked up to is irrelevant, as if they don't own one or the other, they're using online or magazine sources to compare. And those images are captured in HD.

Are you trying to tell me your HDTV magically increases the look of the audience in MLB2k7 shown in the PS3 version of the screenshots, or eliminates the washed out look from the lighting difference?

If so, you must spend a lot of money on drugs.

No shit you can compare screen captures online. But the fact remains you won't answer the question because you realize by either answer I can show how god damn stupid you are.

Skaw: Yes I own a HD TV!

Firestreak: Well, dumbshit, you own a HDTV yet don't see the value of having a blu-ray player built into your games console!

Skaw: No, I don't own a HD TV!

Firestreak: Well, dumbshit, why are you acting like you give a damn which version of MLB 2K7 has slighter sharper grass textures when the difference wouldn't even show up on your TV?
