HALO 2

Metroid Prime 2

O.o;; Hey hey hey.. I'm all for PC FPS's but there are some damn good console FPS's out there. Not many.. but they do exist.

Metroid Prime, fuggin awesome FPS, but you really have to be a Metroid fan I think to really appreciate this game. (thankfully I am one, and I own the game) Metroid Prime 2: Echos *drools* I can't wait.

Halo is by far one of the best FPS console games ever, though I dont think i could play it by myself. The best thing about this game is that you can play through the storymode co-op with a friend and the game is still great. Halo 2, well, me and my roomates are anxiously awaiting it's release.

Beyond these two (soon to be 4) I can't think of much else. This is mainly because I generally don't play FPS's on consoles, the controls are easier to play with on the PC. I do remember playing an Unreal Tournament on the PS2 a long while back, that was also quite fun too, though I never played the PC versions and probably never will.

Anywho, thats my 2 cents.

Auto-Targeting = lame

Don't forget STALKER: Oblivion Lost. It's not coming out for a few months but WOW

The game will blow HL2 and D3 out of the water graphically. BTW, to appreciate this game, visit the Downloads section and get some of the movies.

[Edit: Screens removed, they are too wide, breaking the board. -Sculli]

hl2 & cs:s have better graphics imo

I have to disagree on graphics :P Stalker looks a bit better, but from the SSs in the section......it is soooo empty ><

CS/HL2 you know is action (and hackers -cough-), while Stalker, I have the feeling, looks pretty...and has a semi decent storyline, but is sub-par gameplay :?

Challenge

Davio, are you like an elite player? im sort of an average player on Halo 1 and id like to play with/against you on halo 2 :) we should meet up sometime and play when its out

yea ss i took arent the best choice to show cs:s graphics but the only thing i like about stalkers game is the sky and lighting. everything else (textures, skins) look a little on the weak side imo

Halo 2> Doom3, Doom3 is a waste of hard drive space.(but halo 2 could probably suck ass bad as Doom 3 did too..)

First person shooter = {No thanks.}

I can't believe the popularity of these kind of games. :/

Give me a good RPG anyday.

Oh come on Kipsy, I hope you dont call yourself a gamer and only play one type of game. ^^

----The following has nothing (really) to do with Kipsy, im just continuing on with the rant I've begun. These are soley my opinions and if they upset you, too bad.----

Granted, that would still make you a "gamer" (G4 rules applied [G4 sUx]). But if all you play is just one type of genre, you lack variety. Playing one type of game gets repetative after a while. I love RPG's too, infact they are my favorite genre, but I also enjoy playing FPS's, Fighting, Action/Adventure (I feel this has become a much broader category than it used to be), and even sometimes a good Racing game.

I'm not for Sports titles, infact I think they're flat out stupid. I mean, if I really wanted to play some basketball/football/baseball/(enter sport here) I'd go out and really play it. Not play a virtual simulation.

Why do I play other games then? Because you can't do that sh!* in real life, If I could, I wouldn't be playing the games. If I could walk around carrying a huge greatsword in one hand while putting a palm out in another direction and have a fireball form and blast out at whatever I so wished; you can bet your ass id be out doing that and raising hell/causing death and destruction.

Likewise you can't just go around shooting people, atleast not without serious consequenses. (Though sometimes I feel like going postal, don't we all?) Hence the joy of FPS's, atleast depending on the game. The game could be a form of letting out agression by killing people, ei. Counter-Strike, Postal (go figure), and any othe blatenly violent FPS. They can also be adventerous, and story-telling ei. Metroid Prime, Halo and Half-Life (all great Sci-Fi FPS's). Most importanly, as with any game, we as the players have to find the game to be fun and enjoyable. No matter what your perception of fun may be, as long as your having fun, that's all that essentially matters.

And as far as Fighting is concerned in the real world, well lets face it. It's not enjoyable. If you do enjoy fighting people, something's F'up with you. Go join a fighting "sport" or something. For most normal people though, fighting is unenjoyable, and can be both physically and mentally painful. Not to mention you could get into some real serious trouble with a visit from your local PD. Woo yeah, lots of fun there.

Im not even gonna get into Real Life racing. Unless your an actual race car driver, which in general most of us aren't and are never going to be, then you have no buisness racing your car. You f'up too much with your car. And if your one of those 'street racers', your a retard. Souping up your car, dropping all sorts of money into it, to make a veriably death trap on wheels. Oh yeah, that makes you real cool. -.-; Woo im able to go 150+ with my car! (Yeah, but if you screw up and something goes wrong, you hit something and your flaming monkey poo, but damn if your not cool doing it.)

Okay, so I went into real life racing, sue me.

If this belongs on the Flameboard (which I believe it now qualifies to), move it there. I can tell you now this whole thread doesn't belong in General Discussion, it should have originated in Off Topic if anything, since it has nothing to do with FFXI.

As you may have noticed, I have a lot of ...things.. on my mind. Lately im ready to pounce on anything that I've got something to say about. This being a somewhat reason for my FFXI break, but only somewhat.

Anywho, that's what ive gotta say. If you dont agree, tuff. You don't have to.

Watch the videos. Especially #1 and #4.

I can go with you on the texture part, but think of what STALKER is doing. 30 square km of terrain (not all continuous but still huge areas) plus buildings and underground facilities. That is a HUGE amount of game area. In doing that, they have to load an obscene amount of textures. Each of those textures takes up memory. I can kind of relate. I used to do mapping for the Unreal Engine 2.0. In my levels, which were fairly modest in size (64,000x64,000uu), I sometimes had close to 100 512x512 textures. This really eats up resources and at a certain point, chews away performance. Given the high poly count rendered per scene (300,000 polys at 60fps) they have to find a balance. Most textures in HL2 are 1024x1024 or 2048x2048

What really sets this apart from FPS games is the character interaction, the non-scripted world, the monster and team combat AI, day and night cycles to the world, and added realism.

- Bullets can go through certain objects and also richochet off the ground and cause collateral damage
- Animals are territorial and fight amongst themselves. They also have needs like taking shelter in bad weather, they must sleep, and also hunt for food.
- You must eat and sleep
- Day and night cycles with a dynamic sky.
- Realistic ballistic trajectories that slow down and/or arc
- You can knock a weapon out of enemies hands
- You can take part in Faction/Clan fighting and interaction or go solo
- Multiple Endings to the single player campaign
- Weapons will wear out, vehicles will break down - you can get both repaired
- Dead bodies have a rot cycle
- You can pick up and use most everything in the game. Including dead bodies, bolts, rocks, paint cans, sticks, etc

The list goes on... It will be a breed all it's own.

first person shooters on the pc are a hell of alot better then console shooter games. And I'm going to get a copy of stalker

Half Life 2 = PWNAGE, the system requirements wont require an elephant in a hampter wheel just to get it going like Doom 3 and I can enjoy some aliens ass whooping fun with some decent graphics and not have to pay another 800.00 cdn in hardware upgrades.

Here is some reality check; everyone, their child, and their dogs said that Doom3 would knock everyone's socks off. What did it really do? The GFX are good, no doubt, but they are on par with what is expected using todays technology, they are by no means exceptional (as FarCry was when it came out). The overall setting is too dark with takes away from the possibilities of the GFX engine, or hides it's flaws.

D3 got ultra repetitive very quickly, I am glad I was able to eBay my copy off and recover some cash, because frankly I could not bring myself to play any further than Alpha Lab.

Be that as it may, the same thing can and will happen to some upcoming releases. CS:S surely doesn't look all that awesome, can't understand the hype at all.

The only couple games to really look forward to are EQ2 on 11/9/04 and WoW on 11/22/04.

Im just going to say one thing: If an FPS is designed (or redesigned) for console, in general, you don't need the mouse. I have nothing against Mouse players - I play some PC FPS's (Painkiller is sweet ^_^) and yes, Mouse is good, but it is not THE BEST THING EVAR - it's all in how the game is designed.

I get tired of people dissing perfectly wonderful games (Halo, Pefect Dark, Metroid Prime) just because they can't use a certain type of controller. >_<

In all other things, ditto Ecks. (Except that if I could do that stuff, I'd want to be the superhero stopping you! ^_^)
