As the countdown continues for the entertainment event of the year -- the launch of "Halo 3" -- the video game continues to set records and establish new precedents for an entertainment launch. Today, Microsoft Corp. announced that preorders in North America for the exclusive Xbox 360 title have exceeded the 1 million milestone. In addition, Microsoft unveiled the first exciting details of upcoming promotions from leading consumer brands, including Mountain Dew, 7-Eleven, Pontiac, Comcast and Burger King Corp.
In a strategy utilized in other big entertainment launches, retailers around the world have begun taking preorders, enabling consumers to order one of the three versions of "Halo 3": Standard Edition, Limited Edition and the ultra-collectible Legendary Edition. In fact, demand has been so strong for the Legendary Edition of the game that it is expected to be sold out by the time the game launches on Sept. 25. Retailers have also noted that the presales for "Halo 3" are the fastest in video game history.

* Mountain Dew will unveil the first beverage co-branded with a video game, Mountain Dew Game Fuel. Game Fuel has the same great taste of Mountain Dew with an invigorating blast of citrus cherry flavor and added caffeine for maximum intensity. Game Fuel will come in 20-ounce bottles, 2-liter bottles and 12-packs of 12-ounce cans and will be available nationwide for a limited time starting Aug. 13, 2007.
* 7-Eleven today confirmed its plans to support the launch of "Halo 3" through a variety of in-store promotions, including three "Halo 3"-branded collectible Slurpee cups. In addition,7-Eleven will run a "Halo 3" promotion with Mountain Dew Game Fuel and Doritos, with thousands of "Halo 3"-themed prizes, including, as grand prize, a chance to win a minor role as a voice actor in the upcoming Xbox 360 video game, "Halo Wars™," by Ensemble Studios. In a few select markets, Mountain Dew will offer a special-edition aluminum bottle of Mountain Dew Game Fuel with an exclusive design created by Bungie Studios, the developers of "Halo 3." This bottle will be available in very limited quantities, making it a highly sought-after collector's item.
* Pontiac will provide consumers with several exclusive "Halo 3"-related opportunities. It will host Pontiac Gamers Garage events in select locations, providing consumers with a chance to play the game for the first time before its release. In addition, in support of the launch of its upcoming high-performance G6 GXP Street, Pontiac is offering 1,000 consumers a chance to win a copy of the game; one lucky gamer will win a limited-edition "Halo 3" G6 GXP Street car.
* Burger King Corp. will continue its sponsorship of Xbox 360 with national, in-restaurant support from Sept. 24 through Oct. 22. "Halo 3"-themed packaging will offer customers access to exclusive content by logging on to http://www.bk.com/halo3 beginning Sept. 23. Graphics will be featured on select packaging, including the 42-ounce cup and King FRYPOD™.
* Comcast has also joined the "Halo 3" campaign and will host exclusive video content, including user-generated movies and machinima, on its Web sites http://gameinvasion.net and http://www.ziddio.com. Comcast will also feature standard- and high-definition "Halo 3" videos on its signature ON DEMAND service.

thats ALOT of crap to promote the game with some big company names.
For a game, thats some pretty major stuff!!

I saw the Mt Dew at Wal-Mart yesterday. I thin kthe color was kinda gross looking. A real ugly reddish color that looked pretty undelicious.

I convinced my dad to buy Gamestop stock lol.

I tought Gears of War had taken some of the spotlight from the HALO franchise, when in fact it has made it bigger. This september is gonna be awesome.

ps - I better finish BRD to 75 before then... D=

I think halo2 ended with 1.5M preorders. Not sure but heck this game still has some time lol...

Game Fuel?

Do the product idea makers at Pepsi not realize how close that is to Gay Fuel?

So right i was just arguing with someone on here about how mainstream Halo was.. Guess i was wrong, halo cant be mainstream with millions of dollars of advertising... And gee only a million pre orders... Ok /end sarcasm.. Sorry :p

Watch the end of the world happen right before Halo 3 is released.

Accidental nuclear war or something.

I.. can't seem to remember which button causes total nuclear meltdown or launches Halo 3..

Well, only one way to solve this!

*blindfold*

Quoting my friend who tried it last night. "GAME FUEL = liquid pixie stix" I can neither confirm nor deny this claim.

Redbull is liquid pixie sticks as it leaves your mouth with the same sensation.

I find it kinda sad that they NEED this much advertisement and hype to sell the game. How much advertisement goes into the average final fantasy games vs how many copies are sold? I don't think it's helping to sell more copies at all, when anyone who wants to play halo, or even considers playing halo, knows about halo 3 already and won't be swayed by a pretty burger king cup. Seriously, I'm against any kind of mass marketing that isn't at least mildly entertaining. For example, the Simpsons movie advertising was spectacular with the "Kwik-e-marts" made out of 7-11s and all that jazz. That got people who don't think about the show anymore reminiscing about when they did watch it. Stuff like this pathetic drive for attention for Halo just seems to me to be like the only child screaming for attention he's already getting.

well anyone who was going to see the simpsons movie would have seen it without the quick e marts going up as well. it wasnt needed either.
This kind of marketing is straight up promotion for the fans. because these companies all know that fans are going to want anything halo around the time this game comes out.
Hell because of this, ill be buying gamer fuel and dorritos just for playing halo 3, so i can make halo 3 a true halo 3 night where everything involved is halo 3.
Halo 3 doesnt need mass marketing to sell more games, the games will sell without it. Its that good and has that much of a fanbase.
Same can be said for the simpsons.
Its not really needed, but a neat little thing to go along with an already awesome product.

Hell, ill be buying the replica halo weapons as soon as they hit shelfs they look so damn good.

Why covenant only D: i want a BR

because they want them to be as realistic as possible, and you cant sell realistic looking weapons at retail stores. without adding something bright orange to it or whatever.

Looks more like these companies are using this Halo 3 to make a quick buck.

Itll work too, these companys will make big bucks from Halo3 merch, I know ill buy each of the slurpee cups and a few 12 packs of the gay dew or w/e its called.

I still dont have my 360 back yet but i still have my halo 3 legendary payed for lol.

So i went to stop & shop, got some 12 packs today. I must say i like the stuff lol.

I've been looking around (not really, just googled some stuff) and i can't find out what the differece between the Halo packs are. Why is the legendary pack like $130?
