Hello everyone!

I can't believe much Davion says... something about table tops keeps fuxxing up my mind...

On a serious note, the Bazaar comments would be helpful. Reconnecting with old friends would be awesome!

Oh here we go......

I've noticed that alot of FF players use guildwork.com to post about FFXI and FFXIV across multiple servers. Its kinda like a FF/WoW Facebook kinda thing. Other also use FFXIAH.com to post about random in-game stuff

Well I'm sure now people will watch this now that we've gotten some people's attention.

Just a matter of time I suppose.

I don't want to go a new direction with the forum if its not going to work. I am just thinking of ways to get new members here to keep the forum growing. If by just sticking with QCDN is the only way to go, then I will do that. Just throwing out some ideas.

Well I'm sure this'll always be a place for Quetz to call home. We don't need to cater to the entirety of XI/XIV because as soon as we do, we're competing for views with BG, Guildwork, and the like. Keep it local, get the word out on the server, etc.

Needs more noodz, Noodz always bring the boys to the yard.

and QCDN is a better name, revert to the OG!

And we're like, its better than yours, damn right its better than yours?

Plz plz plz do

That's NOT what she's saying ;)

Ha ha, one person had a suggestion to my thoughts. I need your ideas here guys. Stick with QCDN or is there a chance to branch out to other servers?

OK, even if its given for free, I want a refund.

Gonna address some of your posts Shaggy

About Bazaars, I mean yeah you can do it but the game's community isn't where it used to be. Think about it this way. This site was peaking in 2004 and 2005. Think of how the internet community operated as a whole back then. It was a lot more tight knit and the average computer skills of each individual was higher than it is now. Now it's the Facebook era. People aren't going to jump at a site like they used to. Also, this leads into my next answer.

Other sites. Even back when we were in our prime we were the only server on FFXI that had a dedicated and popular forum for its players. There's some other sites:

BG - http://bluegartr.com - general purpose
Allakhazam - http://ffxi.zam.com
KI - http://killingifrit.com
FFXIAH - http://ffxiah.com

All of these sites were at one point in time or are now the most popular destination for FFXI players that want to post on a forum. Right now, FFXIAH and BG are the two kings. That likely won't change, as this game is not growing further from where it currently stands. We can not and really never have been able to compete with those sites. FFXIAH completely controls the crafting and event scheduling department of things, which is why I was in favor of removing the forums here. We can't really take that back. Our user base due to the Midgardsormr merge is going to be fractured to the point where it won't really work out. Not enough of us on here, even now, play anymore either.

There's no need for a new direction in the site, we just need to compress it, bring it back to a FFXI perspective, preferably under the QCDN name instead of "Eorzea Sun" (FFXIV term) and enjoy the time we have.

Truncated, the board died because some people wanted to try to compete with BG for FFXIV and got badly beaten down. That and FFXIV was terrible. A lot of both.

Back in 2005 and 2006, most of the members here posted on BG for more advanced mechanical discussion of the game and came here for shooting the breeze, talking about server stuff, organizing stuff with friends, etc. That's what this board needs to be about now, and it can EASILY be recaptured.

edit 1: We can't branch out to other servers. They never knew about the site and asking new players to register here will be extremely difficult to do even on Quetz, much less other servers entirely.

Our user base is really large on here, believe it or not. More people logged in a few days ago than I've seen in years. We can do just fine getting the core back. If we do that, people will gravitate naturally to the site. But it's near impossible to pull players from other servers that never knew of this site when it was truly great to come here on a whim when there are existing, larger options available like BG and FFXIAH

Branching out to other servers will probably just clutter the board up without too much gain in membership.

There's been a trend towards greater... mobility in players, particularly in what passes for the "upper class", the hardcore endgamers, who are a lot more likely to move between servers than most, and to do it more regularly. As such, most of the server communities have become pretty diffuse entities at best.

EoSun/QCDN, as inactive as we've been, still saw probably as much or more activity than the average server-specific board on FFXIAH, and the activity over the last few days is probably more than most of those boards will see in a month. The game doesn't require a sprawling community anymore for most things, so people have unfortunately allowed those communities to decay, as often as not.

Admittedly, most of the activity lately has been from the oldschool types like myself, who may or may not play anymore, and may or may not be on Quetzalcoatl if they do. But having a solid core to build on isn't nothing, and it might be interesting to see what a little publicity on Quetzalcoatl does for the forum activity.
