Hello, Important

Makhubela pauses to comfort her friend and neighbor, a 29-year-old mother of five slowly dying of AIDS.

Ok first what in the hell are you doing having 5 Fu***** kids and no money?

Thirty-four of the world's 48 poorest countries are African. Thirty percent of its children don't attend school. The continent's share of world trade declined from 6 percent in 1980 to 2 percent in 2002.

What happened to the more than $450 billion from rich-country donors that went to Africa over the last several decades?" :?: asked Ian Vasquez, an economic-development expert with the Cato Institute in Washington. "Africa is the least economically free region in the world, and that's the main reason why it is also the poorest region in the world."

The African Union estimated corruption costs the continent $148 billion a year, an amount equal to about half of its debt and a quarter of its GDP.
Corruption and bad governance are the single largest obstacles to an African renaissance. The tyrants who repress, starve and impoverish their own nations are still coddled and protected by the governments and leaders of Africa's best run democracies.

The administration said two weeks ago that aid to Africa has tripled since 2001; it plans to double the 2004 level to $8.6 billion by 2010.

So we wipe out 450 000 000 000 and continue to give billion every year?

WHAT THE FU**?

Solution: Ok I play wipe out the debt and cancel the aid. Spend the billions on more millitary

The TOPIC Tyran is about sending aid to courntries in poverty.

Solution: Ok I play wipe out the debt and cancel the aid. Spend the billions on more millitary

YOUR solution is to cancel monetary aid and get MILITARILY INVOLVED. You think we should get MILITARILY INVOLVED in AFrica? That is where we are talking about.

And yes I do believe you should be paid more. Is this some topic HIJACK of yours?

Oh so what YOUR saying is cancel the debt cancel the aid, PAY BILLIONS to the military and basically don't do shit, which is what the TOPIC of the thread is about.

To do more for people in poverty? Ring a bell?

I know we already spend alot on world problems. But we are talking about something else here. Read the first post.

If you wanna say you don't want our country to do any more and simply take care of our military just come out and say it. But this thread is not about taking care of our military, its about fighting world poverty.

My point from my first thread was on topic. Why do we have to stop poverty?

Ok Example:

You are a manager of Mc Donalds. You have a worker that is very slow at producing burgers and brings down moral of the whole work enviroment. He has asked for pay advances and raises for 2 years now, and extra money for gas to get him to work. You also are paying full medical.

Now he comes to you to ask that you forget all the advances and says he just needs alittle more money.

DO YOU

A: forgive his advances and give him more?
B: forgive his advances and fire his lazy ass?

Help has been given. How much more do you with your no tax payin ass want to give? Please come up with a reason on why......If you can.

My problem Tyran as it always was, was your SOLUTION.

Your SOLUTION to world poverty is to boost money to the military? One has to presume a SOLUTION means your gonna do shit. What do you do with the military? It sure doesn't sound like you and me are on the same page.

As far as comparing a McDonalds worker to a person who lives in poverty in AFRICA. I dunno you tell me......... Is that a fair comparison?

you tell me Tyran...........

What im try to say is it is not our problem to solve poverty in any country. As far as being on the same page we might not be. Im arguing the fact that the first statment of the post was for "BUSH stop poverty in Africa". This is not OUR PROBLEM. Weve given money and now we are to forget billions of dollars and drive on with aid. My solution is not for poverty, its a solotion for the money we continue to give.

Yes its not our problem.........

Being a history buff like you sound like you are, During what World War did America say just that? Its not our problem? When did we say that only to watch things escalate to the point of no return?

Why do you think America does the things it does and is so helpful? Its to prevent things that has happened in the past from ever happening again.

I would think someone like you knows this, and would share my view. Especially being over there where the problem was never recognized and nothing was ever done, hence your there to clean up the mess.

During what World War did America EVER fight for povery? The mess Im cleaning up is not due to poverty its due to 40 years of rebal fights for control of Colombia. Mater of fact not just WWars, but what of these wars/conficts have been because of poverty?

Korean War (1950-1953)

Vietnam War (1956-1975)

U.S. Intervention in Lebanon (1982-1984)

U.S. Invasion of Granada: Operation Urgent Fury (1983)

U.S. Invasion of Panama: Operation Just Cause (1989)

Persian Gulf War: Operation Desert Storm (1991)

U.S. Intervention in Somalia: Operation United Shield (1992-1994)

NATO Intervention in Bosnia (1994-1995)

U.S. Occupation of Haiti: Operation Uphold Democracy (1994)

NATO Intervention in Kosovo: Operation Allied Force (1999)

American life was never or will never be the payment to solve poverty. All of these war/conflicts are in the name of democracy.

hehe mr. facts.

My point. Your saying its not our problem, I brought this up because your saying its not our problem. I'm trying to prove it to you WHY IT SHOULD BE OUR PROBLEM, and why it usually ends up as our problem. And why we should do something.

You being a history buff, errr WAR buff, should know that we said the same thing as WWII started.

Its not our problem.......

You think all the tension wars and such caused by famine and poverty won't spill over to neighboring countries? If the problem was taken care of in advanced, maybe you won't ever see wars happen. Maybe if America didn't say "Its not our problem" you wouldn't be where you are today?

You also have to remember that the Africans DO NOT TRUST OUTSIDERS. Let me give you an example:

In both Rwanda and the Congo, Red Cross aid workers were sent to help combat the outbreaks of Smallpox and Typhoid. Both of these epidemics can be controlled rather easily by vaccinations, and the American Red Cross (among others) went to the villages to help stop the spread.

But.

The tribal and national leaders had been saying for weeks before the Red Cross arrived that the Americans were putting AIDS and/or sterilizing drugs in the vaccines to try to wipe out the entire nation. As a result, less than 20% of the people offered the life-saving vaccines accepted them, and many of those that did were later expelled from their villages or killed because of the fear of those people carrying AIDS.

How many times should we offer the help and have it refused before we stop trying?

Ok so your saying we should say that the worlds problems are our problems and we should help them all?

My next question is the situation in Iraq (nevermind ill stay on topic)......

What should we do then?

Not trying to start shit I really take this Topic serious. As Cubs pointed out at what point do people come to relize we are helping at the cost of our own lives.

Buy the way great debate :)

CubsWoo said:

Good point can't argue with you there. :D

Though there are other ways to go about helping, maybe we just have to find another way?

The main drive for my reasoning is a future war there that we'd have to go in and clean up afterwards. And of course have fellow Americans die for things that do not directly involve America.

Isn't that worth it? I know this is a standoff of my views vs. everybody else but I figured I'd give it a try.

Good discussion everyone, I take my leave.
