help for soloing

im leveling my SAM which is at 14 now. It was going well last night, started at level 14 and was clocking in almost 6k an hr in exp, then it all slowed down and ended up taking me almost 3 hours to get from 10-14 >.<, due to duoing.

Anyways my current strat is going /WHM downing Persikos au Lait, and making my own Pineapple juice so I could have a constant stream of MP to Dia, and Cure. But the problem is more that i cant find anything worth killing!!

Highlands is a bit too low now, and valkurm sorta sucks as well :|, since I'm still too low for that. Night bats also have an annoying attack down as well which really fucks up my attacks and there aren't enough spawns. Lizards and star bats still con tough as well.

subs i have available and their respective level are:

WHM
WAR
NIN
BST
RNG

suggestions ive gotten so far is K tunnel and subbing /RNG to kill worms, but I'm not sure if im high enough yet for that.

what level is your bst? generally speaking the mobs you can charm level wise as main you can charm as a sub, hence a lot of the hardcore soloers use /bst after getting it to 75. Having a set of hope rings and noble's ribbon never hurts as well since the chr isn't the same.

I hear you can solo as /whm with yag drinks and milk in maze of shrakami but I've never done it personally.

What I do know personally that as you get into the 34 or 35(preferable) level range you can use /bst in Bibiki Bay entrance and charm rabbits vs Dhalmel and birds and such and it will take you to 37 easily.

Did this myself awhile back...I love that place
 
my BST is only 10, the reason mainly because i have no healing subjob that is leveled up high enough, both my rdm and whm are below 10 haha.

so in order for me to use bst to level sam, id have to level up a whm to subjob level at least, or RDM, then level up a bst high, then level my SAM >.<.

so i'm hoping for some other alternatives, until I can sub NIN as I've hard subbing NIN works quite well when you can use Utsusemi

This will happen a lot more than you think it will, and its honestly better to get it out of the way now.

You probably shouldn't even touch /nin until 74, unless you are planning on soloing a lot of stuff.
 
assuming you have kept with your archery, goto king r. tomb, south of san'doria when you are lvl 15. from 14-15 just keep killing random crap in le thine or highlands until you get it, will take a while but watch a movie or something while you do it, you'll be 15 before you know it.

then grab a Kingdom Bow and a quiver of Fang Arrows. Katayama Ichimonji being your best GK for this level spread. go back and grab one, it's not too hard. 100% drop.

other useful equipment would be:

head: kingdom bandana, Nobles ribbon or hell even a Coven Hat (lol)
neck: Wing Pendant if you have done/have it
ears: Cassie Earring best, but doubt you have one. otherwise use Amber/stamina earrings.
body: Power Gi, no question.
rings: Vision Ring, two of them.
back: Breath Mantle? dosent matter.
waist: Warrior's Belt +1 best bet, nothing too benificial.
legs: Sturdy Trousers? anything will do.
feet: Bounding/leaping boots are the best, thou republic leggings will offer some protection.


other neat shit:
Selbina Milk ~ cheap as hell, helps out a little bit. even more useful with a dream robe +1

Pea soup ~ also very cheap, about 1400 depending on fame. lasts 3 hours. rng acc+5, agi+1, hp recovered while healing +3. bought from Glyke in upper jenuo Marble Bridge Eatery.

exp band ~ obvious reasons

Shell ~ if you can bug someone for shell before you head out will make the first hour a little more easy. Shell 1 is fine, shell 2 wont last very long at lvl 15.

Prizm powder and sneak oil ~ there is a short section while you need to avoid troublesome goblins and bats before you can get to your camp. 1 or 2 of each should do.



What your trying to acomplish with this setup is just fire off arrows with as much rng acc as you can muster. try not to waste your tp on flaming arrow, it's not very strong. your target is the worms in the far east area on the first floor of KRT. Use sharpshot whenever possible. Wait till the worm begins to cast stonega or stone II, then use third eye and run in and use tachi: enpi.

Dont stand too far from the worm when shooting arrows. Staying at fair range allows you to get in for your ws in enough time, while simultaneously allowing the worm to use the rest of it's tp attacks. If you are too far it will only use it's longest distance ws, gastric bomb; a long lasting atk down attack. The mild earth resistance your gear will give you will help you resist a small amount of earth spells.

Never try to take on another worm if you are under acc down from sandspin and atk down from gastric bomb, you wont win. tremors and rasp will give you double dex down, more then not putting you at a culmilitave amount of 1 DEX....wont effect your ranged attacks so you might wanna use flaming arrow in combination of sharpshot if this is happening. Worms will link (help each other) if they are too close, take that into consideration when picking your target.


you can stay here from 15 to 18 iirc, then you can move to maze of sharakami. That will last you till 22 or so, then you can piss people off and solo worms off in qufim island till about lv 25~26. Maze of sharakami has the next level of worm, but is difficult to reach.



the same principles can be applied to more jobs such as; rng, drk, cor, nin, war to a extent, and probably blm and rdm.

Wasn't it the cool rng thing to do was kill worms in Koroloka tunnel at like 19 or whatever until like 25?

yeah i realize this by now, but the thing is, i a) dont have enough time to do that, b) want to level SAM quickly for a sub so i can level my main first c) i've tried doing this back when i still played back in 2005/2006, and got bored of having to level so many things and till this day still dont have a 75 job, so this time starting again i dont want to make that mistake again =)

i also referred to /NIN for soloing =)

You're a bit low for the tunnel still, I usually go to danguf Wadi and take on Gobs and worms there most of them should be Dc- tough at your lv. The regen drinks is a good idea, I use hi Pots from a tank for those last minute heals you may need. Just get someone to unload the hi pots for you if you dont have a 55 job handy. Inventory space is a problem but strip away everything you dont need and you should be fine.

Quads on the upper areas of the mines are also an idea just watch for links and pull them safely to a quiet corner. I got good exp off beetles too at mid teens.

At 18 move to K tunnel and stay on the worms close to zone, a lot of Japanese players tend to come here late night I find so depending on your timing you may find it crowded. I sometimes went to valkrum dunes via outpost warp instead and picked on bunnies and lower gobs at 18.

Thanks Jeska for your recommendations, ill definitely try them out. I tried duoing with a random stranger, it was a lot slower than jus downing drinks myself and grinding it alone. Gonna try with a friend though, hopefully its better =).
 
Yeah, ranger sub till 30. At 30 it's your choice, but i would sub ninja personally.

things to note ate 30 will be;

weapon: Grab two Archer's Knife's. make a macro to swap them in like so
/equip Main "Archer's Knife"
/wait 1
/equip Sub "Archer's Knife "

sub weapon: Brass Grip +1 to use with your great katana.

ranged Great Bow +1 with horn arrows, and a stack of sleep arrows for emergencys.

head: a emperor/empress pin by now if possible, if not... Horn Hairpin +1 for the earth def.

neck: Ajase Beads, dont got one and i hate ppl who do cuz i want it.

ears: drone earring and a Genin Earring. Beater's Earring if you still prefer /rng

body: power gi still, dont let anyone tell you otherwise.

hands: Federation Tekko gunna be on you, well should say SHOULD be on your sam till 40, yeah 40 =P

rings: 2x beetle rings, include them with your dagger swap in. Shikaree Ring's if you wanna be legit about it, for your GK swap back. if not just swap in your old vision rings to remove the acc down and add 2 dex.

back: nomad's

waist: Acrobat's Belt is neat, but not nessicary. Brave Belt will do.

legs: Republic Subligar for girls, Centurion's Cuisses for the fellas.

feet: leaping/bounding boots are still your overall best. if you dont have the time/money, Federation Kyahan are the best soulution for solo/pts. RSE for all the races to offer, if you choose.




by this level and equipment, with all the additional ranged acc, bow becomes your successor in damage over time when solo'ing. You also gain the ability meditate. Swap in great katana for when it's availible. Your normal tp you can store or waste on a dagger ws, but with nin sub you wont have the ability to use ranged ws. Note the effect of having hasso up will ruin your utsusemi timer.

I've spent some of my best exp sessions soloing in those places, after a few days of end game in its many various forms its a delight to relax and enter a simpler more casual experience.
