I just installed FFXI on my Laptop and it updated all the files and what not last night and now when I try to play it'll do the checking part before it opens up FFXI. It'll pause for a second then circle back to PoL. I don't get any errors or anything so I r confused D:

HELP ME. I'm so close to playing ffxi in the Hospital D:

You forgot to make sweet love to me down by the fire.

lmao.. ok so did you do file checks through pol?

Yes, did file checks, made sure my laptop is plugged in(thought that might be a factor since my cam doesn't work unless it's plugged in), also, I'm on Vista <_< But i DL'd that Vista PoL thing.

It's sad but my laptop is better then my computers. It shouldn't have problems playing it and if it did I'm sure an error of sorts would pop up. I don't get a single error. Just the "checking final fantasy XI...." then a pause, then PoL comes back with 0 errors.

OK I recently had to install on vista, after you get teh playonline vista from se you need to re-install ffxi. So if you had it on your pc already you need to uninstall it then reinstall. I used the vanadiel 2007 collection and had to install everything by opening the disk through explorer and doing the game and the expansions seperately.

I installed the Vista PoL thing before I put FFXI on my computer. I got bored and I had to wait till Mara could lend me his PoL disks. I don't think that's the issue. My money is on I'm just that unlucky <_<

ok I had that same problem. I right clicked on POL icon, clicked compatibility tab, checked box, and set it to run as if it were on XP sp2. Only thing that worked for me then was POL, so I used POL to update the version of FFXI (because at that point nothing else worked). After I downloaded the patches and stuff for ffxi, everything worked for me.

/sigh I did that for both FFXI and PoL and I still can't play. It keeps doing the same thing. I fucking hate computers.

I personally didn't try the registry mess, I'd be afraid of breaking something since I'm not really computer savvy. I may try it if someone else says they did and it works fine, but till then, I'm not messing with it D:

I read it and didn't understand any of it aside from the stuff Eilistrae said. The other crap the dude said made me go cross eyed.

Do what he sayes at the very end of the post, where you have to open DOS and type it in manually, those very last 5 lines.

Type each of them correctly and see if that works for you. Every time you type them in correctly, you'll get a confirmation note saying "Successful" or something... Anyways, worth a shot.

ok well, I did the registry part, saving it with .reg extension and yadda yadda, and apparently I couldn't do it. It says "you can only import binary registry files from within the registry editor" :p

Any chance you ccan dumb that down a little more? <_< Heres my vast knowledge of computers. there is a button that turns it on and kicking it makes it go faster. <_<

ok, click on the Start menu and open up the "Run" thingy. Type in cmd, and that'll open up a little DOS Window.

Once there, simply type in:

regsvr32 "%%DIR%%PlayOnline\SquareEnix\PlayOnlineViewer\viewer\com\app.dll"
regsvr32 "%%DIR%%PlayOnline\SquareEnix\PlayOnlineViewer\viewer\com\polcore.dll"
regsvr32 "%%DIR%%PlayOnline\SquareEnix\FINAL FANTASY XI\FFXi.dll"
regsvr32 "%%DIR%%PlayOnline\SquareEnix\FINAL FANTASY XI\FFXiMain.dll"
regsvr32 "%%DIR%%PlayOnline\SquareEnix\FINAL FANTASY XI\FFXiVersions.dll"

ONE At a time, pressing enter after every line. Keep in mind to replace the %%DIR%% to like, whatever path you installed under, so like mine will read:

regsvr32 "c:\\Games\PlayOnline\SquareEnix\PlayOnlineViewer\viewer\com\app.dll"
THat would be my first line. I'd press enter after that, and something would pop up saying thingamajig successful.

Keep in mind, this may not solve your problem, but if you read the whole post on the link i gave you, it'll explain to why Vista fucks up and that this should fix it.

Anywho, just try this before you re-install it and stuff.

GL!
