Just thought I'd make a little guide on where to legally find anime and manga for sale online.

First we have amazon.com and amazon.co.uk or wherever which is pretty straightforward, however they don't do that many discounts.

eBay is also a fairly good choice BUT BE CAUTIOUS! As its ebay, there will be sellers who will sell fake merchandise, so, the things to look out for are:

Entire sets on one unified box set.
Unofficial box art.
Region 0.
No specific rating.
English and Chinese Subtitles.
Insanely low prices.

If you pay special attention to these you should be able to shop safely on eBay. eBay can be useful for nearly all anime related memorabilia such as cosplay items, posters or wallscrolls. You will usually find legitimate products there though.

Several other useful links (NA sites for the time being, Canadian AND International sales are possible.) The first two links also contain some *ahem*, other stuff, clearly marked as ABSOLUTELY NOT FOR CHILDREN. Though the sites are safe for work, caution should be used when browsing through the store, got it? Ok then:

RightStuf contains all official anime and manga items and works closely with anime distributors. This site also contains an anime fan club which will discount a further 10%; on all items as well as having sale items with prices being slashed by a further 33%-40%. Their catalogue also contains further discounts for around 5% on certain items.

RightStuf will also dispatch nearly all pre-orders about a couple weeks early from my experience. US orders can pay by most forms off payment, however International Orders must pay by Credit Card and must provide evidence to show they actually exist for security reasons. Additional fees also apply to International orders.

Fair warning though, if you are doing international orders, there might be a slight chance on your items getting confiscated, which you can get no refund from, I haven't experienced this yet (Thank God) but this generally applies to the adult stuff.

The Anime Corner Store doesn't have the great deals as RightStuf but there is probably more in the ways of memorabilia here such as statues and cels.

Japanese (& Other Asian) imports:

http://benippon.com/en/ <- For manga, light novels, dictionaries, guide books, history, magazines, models, clothes etc.

--------------------

http://www.yesasia.com/global/en/home.html <- Pretty much the same as benippon, though it also have Korean and Chinese stuff there, and free international delivery on items over $39.

-------------------------------------

I'll try and update this as I go along but I hope this helps people find what they want for their anime collection besides using torrents ^^;

Also, if anyone can actually help on bring more information on safe sites to purchase anime from, the help will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your time.

Hastings. I don't know if they have them everywhere, but I went into one of them around here a week or so ago and I was looking at their anime selection, they have HUNDREDS of series on the shelves there. Rentable AND buyable. I was really amazed, there was stuff there I had never heard of before, and OVAs, multiple language subtitles, dubs, anything.

Do they have a webpage? =3

I know it sounds strange, but Best Buy carries a small amount of Anime recent releases and popular titles. Don't expect a lot, maybe a single aisle of their Video section best. Also, you can generally find stores that specifically sell videos containing a sizable amount of anime, like SunCoast.

<3 Rightstuf!

I get most of my stuff from there :)

And I agree with the eBay warning, as I recently purchased a bootleg Malaysian copy of Ah! My Goddess season 1 and the quality was terrible. There was one episode where the english dub wasn't even recorded, and the whole 3rd disc had some horrible background noise not to mention poor picture quality. Also throughout, the lip-sync with the audio and the visuals was so off that the characters mouths were moving before you could hear anything x_X.

It's not all bad stuff on there as I have other similar anime series cheap knock-offs which were actually just as good as the legit ones. It's a risk you take i'm afraid

~auro~

Its all a matter of trial and error on eBay, though I was successful in getting a legit copy of G Gundam thank god =D

Although if you are missing stuff on the DVD just send it back with a detailed report on what is missing and they should hopefully give you a refund if they are honest.

Tokyo Toys is a good UK site to buy all sorts of anime merchandise from.

Site link : http://www.tokyotoys.com/

Although there are some 18+ stuff on there it is very safe for work. Just don't click the 18+ figures and your good to go.

Updated, thanks. Didn't know that a specialist store like this was here in the UK.

Well just took another look at the site and it does say, "Based in England, International Shipping" they also have a shop somewhere in London. Never went mind you haha. lolondon.

Also I'm pretty sure they did sell dvds but I can't find it on the site anymore, lemme have another look.

Also Play.com is an ok place to get some anime dvds, it's where I get most of mine anyway.

Of course ;)

I have used Tokyotoys for a couple of things although not DVD's specifically. Got my figma Saber figure (Fate/Stay Night) from there^^

Not the cheapest place I have found online but the fact its UK based means we avoid the possibility of paying custom charges for imported stuff.

Also...

Last night I found a website that seems to have bases all over the world (inc. UK) and ordered my DVD's of UFO Ultramaiden Valkyrie from there at what seemed a very reasonable price.

http://www.axelmusic.com/ - check it out

also

https://www.up1.co.uk/ (definately UK based and got DVD's co,ing from here also^^)

almost forgot..

http://www.animeheavens.co.uk/shop/

not used these yet as they seem to be the bootleg versions of animes (malaysian imports or w/e)

sometimes the quality can be a bit off with these "fakes" but the prices are very cheap in comparison to the legit originals

Updated, however, that last link I'm not gonna post on the OP.

Thank you very much anyways.

I usually use amazon.com and bestbuy.com. Sometimes bestbuy.com has sold an anime for 10-15 bucks cheaper than amazon, but usually amazon is better in the long run

I'm hoping on landing a job at Chatpers and if they have a reasonable discount to their employee's, I'll be buying Manga from them.
