Hi.

Can you update POL while installing FFXI?
 
For future reference, don't do it.

For some reason it's taking an eternity for these expansions to install. I did it last night, and they installed extremely quick. The only thing I've done differently today is update POL. Bad idea.

Seriously though, not much psychosis here, we kinda had to put that aside once the kids came along. I'm excited to have something other than an afternoon at the local playground to look forward to, haha.

When the kids aren't right by us I'll tell you the story of why I'm now paranoid to meet people from ingame. Its got so many juicy details I couldn't even make them up.

Agreed, lol. In fact I'll post one of my stories of creep people from the internet as payment. There's a bit of setup to it, though.

Back in the day I was a member of a Wheel of Time fansite called Dragonmount.com. I'd met about a half-dozen people from the site in real life, and they were all really cool. We used to get together every couple months and go barhopping, hit the Ren Faire, shit like that. Two guys who lived close to us downtown became really good friends of me and Carl, named Dave and Justin.

During Carl's third year of med school, he had to do externships at hospitals. Two of the hospitals he went to were in Tucson and Seattle, and he did these back to back in November and December 2001. So he was gone from the end of October until just before Christmas of that year. Naturally, I spent a lot of time with Dave and Justin because they were the only people I could really hang out with without taking an hour long drive to the suburbs. Dave's 22nd birthday was right before Christmas that year, and we were gonna get as many of the Dragonmount people together as we could and go out to D&B's for booze and video games. About 2 weeks before, Dave tells me "There's only one thing I want for my birthday: I want Adam to finally show up". Adam was the only guy from Dragonmount living in Chicago that we hadn't met. Noone had been able to drag him out of his shell. Every time I talked with Adam one-on-one I always came away slightly creeped, but I couldn't put my finger on what it was. But Dave was my friend, so if that's what he wanted then I was gonna do my damndest.

Adam made all kinds of excuses, so I somehow ended up volunteering to drive out to Hillside to pick him up from work, and take him back after the party. In hindsight this was a good thing, because it made me designated driver and meant that I wasn't drinking that night. My first warning sign was when I showed up at Adam's work, and asked for him. The guy who worked there was really surprised when I said I was a friend of his. I then saw Adam for the first time, and my god, he was a walking Internet stereotype. Overweight, unkempt, unclean. He had standard-issue neckbeard and dirty Metallica t-shirt, and a pair of glasses that were broke and had been repaired with tape. He was really uncomfortable talking with me, and told me he wanted to finish his inventory lists before we left, but his boss shooed him out the door.

I don't remember what we talked about as I drove him back to Chicago, as I was pretty much just nodding my head and thinking "oh god please don't be as psycho as you seem". Knowing Adam is was probably mostly about cars or System of a Down, two things he seemed to have an unnatural love of. Thankfully by the time I got home Dave and Justin were waiting in the lobby of my apartment building, so I didn't have to stall Adam in a public place to stay safe. We hung out at my place until our friend Rob showed up, though by then Dave and Justin were already pretty well sauced.

The night was pretty typical of us, lots of goofing around and inside jokes, though it seemed every time Adam got comfortable enough to add in his own joke we'd all end up falling into uncomfortable silence and/or nervous polite laughter. Most of his jokes were about his character in the RP on Dragonmount, and of the lesbian relationships his character had tried to get inserted into. At the end of the night Dave and Justin staggered to the subway to take the train back to Rogers Park, and Rob volunteered to come with me when I drove Adam home, even though it meant he'd be catching a train almost 2 hours later than he'd intended. (I could have kissed him for this if he didn't have really bad teeth). The ride back was less awkward because I had Rob to deflect the creep's attention. Once Adam was out of the car Rob and I laughed for like a good 15 minutes straight at how weird the whole thing had been.

Dave was pretty drunk by this point and literally picked me up so we could get a picture of all the Aiel. If Adam had been any closer to me than my feet I probably wouldn't have been smiling.

Adam showed up to a few other Dragonmount functions after that, but only if he provided his own transportation. Never again would I allow him to set foot in my car or my home.

I had a taru paladin pee on my shower curtain. Other than that, the FFXI meetings I've had were normal!
 
That's messed up. I've only met one person from the internet in person (Celvantes),who's a really cool guy. Gregedor and I speak on the phone sometimes, but I've never met him, because he lives in Ohio where as Cel is a 2-3 hour drive from me.
 
I knew this one guy and his friend from both GameFAQs and FFXI. There was a period of about a month that my car was dead and I couldn't really go anywhere unless I borrowed my ex's nasty truck, assuming she was actually at my house leeching off of me and not out having sex with random strangers. Well, I was almost out of food at my house and I was talking to one of the two guys that I knew and was talking about not having food. The two guys lived about.. maybe 1.5-2 hours away. He said they'd both come by to visit one day and we'd grab lunch.

Well the day came and they arrived and well, what can I say, they were both super creepy guys! Well, not much I can do now. I got into the car and the tall one drove us to the local McDonald's while we listened to horrible music. We sat at McD's talking about crappy fast food, GF, and FFXI. We went back to my house and the not tall one took lots of pics of us playing Guitar Hero, my laptop with GF open on it, and my ex's awesome dog that I should've stolen when I moved. FINALLY they left and then later that day they posted up the pics on GameFAQs to mild reviews.

I guess I'm insane but I hung out with them a few more times while I still lived up north. The tall one's family is rich or something so I stayed at his house and we watched tv on a giant moviesque screen and played multiplayer DS games. We also saw a movie together once and I got ultimate nachos, which are regular nachos with a dixie cup full of jalapeno pepper slices. Ah, memories.
