Hi all :)

As a solo Bst, I've seldom had reason to stop and worry about gear(the obvious exception being things that help Charm rate). I'd just watch the damage output by my pet and myself and gear well enough to keep it fairly close. As I approach 75, however, I'll be participating in more and more group-type events. I'm currently level 72. In your opinion(s) what would be ideal(or reasonably close to it) for a Bst to bring to a party/alliance setting?

Please keep in mind, I'd be subbing War(or Sam in some circumstances) unless someone can conclusively prove to me that a Bst/Nin stacks up against it in a parse.

Any and all suggestions will be most appreciated. ^^

In my opinion, unless you've got a Juggernaut to offhand, don't actively bother with /nin as a BST. If you're talking about sky, very few of the mobs use Area physical attacks, so you'll be losing out on Berserk for almost no reason.

Really, you'll just want to get as much accuracy and attack as possible since most NMs are evasive/defensive, If you have a Haubergeon/Hauberk from leveling, great. Theres nothing better for your body slot without downing Nidhogg or buying a Haubergeon/Hauberk +1. If you don't have an Optical Hat, you should start working on one. Amemet+1/Foragers. Snipers/Woodsmans. Life/Potent Belt. Earring should be Corals/Assault, at the least. Minuet if you'd like a little bit of accuracy. Diabolos' and Fowling are great for accuracy as well if you can get them.

Also, if you aren't, start participating in Dynamis, Relic Hands will help out a bit. Because as BST, you'll find yourself in an area without any charmables(Gods and Ru'Avitau/Ve'Lugannon farming,) so the added stats to Jug pets is welcome. Granted, Xarcabard is far away, but due to few BSTs being around, you'll almost always have priority on relic.

Yeah, BST need to focus more on ACC+ than anything else for melee gear. I'm also going to start lving SAM for BST subjob for partys and events that way I can keep up with damage on my character and my pet should also be doing loads of damage. Having a BST in the party is like having two people for the price of one. =)

As Skaw said, it depends on what you are doing. Bst/War will outparse a Bst/Nin. However, if you are in an axeburn party, you need Ni for survivability.

For me, my merit party setup looks like this (or will)

Maneater
Juggernaught
Turban
hauby +1
amemet +1
PCC
Dusk Gloves
Dusk Pants
M hume boots
Rajas Ring
Strength/Sniper
Assault earring
Brutal earring
Tiphia Sting

Al must have found a gold mine somewhere lol... But I'm looking to finish up to 75 and find a merit to parse in as well. I'm not convinced that NIN will out do WAR.

My setup is simlar but...

Woody
Tatami
Turban
Hauberk
Amemet
PCC
Ogre gloves
BST AF+1
Swift/Life/Warwolf
Ogre Ledelsens
Flame ring
Strength/Sniper
Assault earring
Brutal earring
Attah Satchet

Awesome! Thank you much :)

One question: Is the Potent belt another of those items I need to run down from Aht Urghan?

Haven't yet, but it's on my todo list for when I hit 75. Been stockin coins when I find them cheap.

Here is what I wear for melle. Solo or alliance, it's all the same.

Main: Woodville's axe
Sub: Leopard axe (brand new, or maneater is fine)
Ammo: Tiphia sting
Head: Walahra turban
Neck: Chiv. Chain
Ear1: Brutal Earring
Ear2: Suppanomimi
Body: Hauberk
Hands: Not sure, I use taruutaru rse2
Rings: Woodsman
Back: Forager's
Waist: Potent Belt
Legs: AF+1
Feet: Not sure I use rse2

This is what I use and it gets me lots of merits.

If you're not concerned with taking hate from a pet, and your party has a real tank, you can pretty much gear a bst similarly to a war.

Oh yeah, if you want to merit PT, try to convince your party to go to Mount Zayohlm. At one of the two troll forts, there are DC leeches along a cliff side.

Problem is, there are two spots to camp at this fort, and at the base of one, the Gar Brothers will spawn pretty much every two hours. While an inconvenience, you can luckily remedy this as BST. Two of the Brothers will disappear when they lose aggro outside of thier wandering range, leaving just the Ranger. He's pretty easy alone, and drops a belt thats decent for Paladins.

i don't see the point in leopard axe :| and maneater>woodvilles ;)

Meh, I used woodville>maneater for a long time. Tested out woodville>leopard this weekend and am VERY pleased with the results. The problem with maneater is that it becomes kinda gimp once you pass 100tp, and that happens VERY quickly for me as bst. With leopard, my damage is steady the whole time.

If you're in a Merit Party though, it's likely that you aren't going to be collecting 200-300TP in the same way you will as a solo BST. I've never partied as a BST, but I'm guessing that without JAs, we'd be a slower TP gainer than most jobs, so we'd mostly be fighting as <100TP.

In the few merit parties I've done as bst, I keep up pretty well with the other melles as far as tp is concerned. With leopard axe, it might not be the same as maneater, but I bet if I stick with sushi it really won't be all that noticable.

Anyway, best thing I like about leopard axe: It's unique.

But as a solo bst, I usually hit 100tp halfway through a fight. So with a maneater, half of the fight is spent gimping. Unless I use gale axe for the choke effect. I often do that if the mob is still above 50% hp. But really, the difference between maneater and leopard axe for me has so far be very small.

Not worth 5M for some people, but it really didn't put a hurt on me since I got it in exchange for my maneater, neptune's staff, and auster's staff. HQ staves are easily replacable. Finding another Leopard Axe in the AH when you have money isn't always an easy thing to do.

Just a correction on Skaw's behalf; BST can't use Fowling Earring.
