Hockey 2008

Hot damn! Blackhawks sign Brian Campbell to an 8 year deal AND sign Cristobal Huet to 4 years. Big adds to Chicago's blue line and net. I'm smelling playoffs next year, especially if Havlat stays healthy.

Yeah that's huge for them, especially with all that young talent. Other moves that stuck out to me are the Red Wings locking up Stuart, which pretty much guarantees they'll be in the race again next year (as if that was in question to begin with). Also, the plethora of moves the Lightning have made to give Barry a team to put on the ice is nearing unbelievable. Guess that new ownership is really serious about being a contender.

As for my Pens, signed Dupuis, Eaton, and Godard, while losing Hall and Conklin. Inking Godard gives me a hint that Georges Laraque won't be coming back, which makes me sad, but the rest are no real surprise. I'm more worried about Rutuu, Talbot, and Orpik at this point. Also, I heard a rumor on the radio today, and now just read on ESPN.com that the Pens made Jagr an offer... I'm not sure how I feel about that, seeing as I've had nothing but discontent for Jagr for the last 10 years of my life. Faaaaack.

Lol yeah. If you get Jagr though and Malkin is locked up and of course having Crosby there still I'd imagine his point total towards the end of the year would be better than the one he just had. Still... I don't think ol' Jags is worth the 8M price tag that's likely to come with him.

Agreed. Actually Jags and Sykora are good friends also from what I understand. Still, I don't think I've ever seen a guy who has been boo'd every time he's touched the puck return to the team that hates him so. Irony, thy name ist Jagr.

Thank you, New Jersey Devils, for bringing Brian Rolston back.

Shame on you, New Jersey Devils, for bringing Bobby Holik back.

Good for you, New York Rangers, for landing Wade Redden.

Shame on you, New York Rangers, if thats all you end up with after losing Avery and Jags.

I hope Marian Hossa breaks his fucking leg in his first fucking game wearing a Red Wings jersey. He just efficiently double-fucked the Pens. i.e. Said he'd sign for less money, was offered a contract before Malone, thus forcing the Pens to ditch Malone, then signing for the same fucking money with another team. I would've rather seen him sign a fat deal with Boston or Montreal or Edmonton or whoever the hell else was ready to pay his ass.

Next season, I'm not even cheering for the Pens as much as I am praying to sweet baby Jesus that the Wings don't win, denying him his "best shot at a cup". Traitorous prick.

Lol, you rock Tim

Wings resign Zetterburg + get Hossa at a total steal to keep an open Salary cap, what a year =D

Traitorous? The guy was an expiring contract trade deadline deal. Basically a hired gun that played only a few months. I hardly see the need for loyalty.

Oh, and GO WINGS!!!

What Tim is talking about is before free agency, Hossa said he would be willing to take less money than what he was currently making just to stay with the Penguins and then he went back on that.

Maybe he is still 'willing', he just got an offer from a better team. Welcome to the wonderful world of free agency....

That is exactly what I'm talking about. That is what I like to call a traitor. He developed loyalty with that statement. If he would've said "Fuck this, I'm going elsewhere" the Pens could have focused on bringing Malone back.

With that said, I still think the Pens are going to be the best in the East, and wouldn't really be shocked by a Pens-Wings Stanley Cup rematch. Sadly, I think it would go about the same way.

I totally didn't see the Rangers ending up with Naslund. I'm honestly glad Jagr is going to Omsk. He's the type of guy that only plays good when he's happy and having fun and I think he lost that with the Rangers. I'm sure he'll do good over in Russia where he's also making a fuckton more than he would be in the NHL.

Black Hawks signed Brian Campbell. Duncan Keith and Brian Campbell will eat so many minutes. I'm stoked for hockey to start.

If Toews doesn't miss with injury again I think the combination of Toews/Kane/Sharp will be a better first line. I think Toews could have easily had the Calder Trophy if he hadn't been injured rather than Kane. I could see Havlat in second line with Byfuglien and Lang of course this depends on if Sharp plays as well as he did last year. I hope that Cristobal Huet gets a better chunk of the time since Khabibulin, damn Russian names, wasn't so hot last year. Of course Khabi could have also had an off year last year.

Yep. The 'Bulin Wall' is crumbling more and more each year.

He hasn't really had a stellar year since he was on the Coyotes. Or maybe 01/02 with the Lightning. I think he's really on his last legs as a real star in the net.

The Ducks have grabbed a few good people in the draft, I can't wait to see what they bring to the table this year. Sadly with MacDonald gone we'll have to hope Morrison can step up as our number 2 center, and Getzlaf can take over the front spot. Neidermeyer remaining is a huge win for the team, especially with Pronger still there as well. Selanne returning is still a possibility but an unlikely one. I think without a proper paired winger, a lot of his skills go to waste. Him and Kariya were some of the most dynamic players I've ever seen together and I don't think he's really had that since. Perry and Kunitz should have a good seasons this year, but who knows if they can break the 60 point season this time around (both in the 50s last). And last but not least Giguere had a pretty great season last year but it wasn't enough to put the Ducks up. If he plays even a small percent better this year, it will be huge.

My favorite thing about the wings is they are an elite cup winning franchise without Hossa. All he is now is icing on the cake. Personally I liked Hossa the most when he played for Ottawa. I had no idea we would ever get an all-star in their prime in Detroit. We typically draft our bad asses and raise them. But hey the guy wants a cup and I'm sure Ken Holland our GM simply drew a picture of the cup and said 7.5 mil, which is 1.5 less than offered by most teams. He had no clue the dude would accept it, but he probably was like "really? sweet!".

For those that don't know, Hossa has long been accused of only playing for money and was said to never truly have the heart or care to want a cup. He accepted the deal with Detroit to have the naysayers who despise his European background and doubt his earnest wanting for a cup. If we win the cup this year we may keep the guy, if not who knows. We don't ride on selfish styled players so we will see if he can play Steve Yzerman Red Wings 2-way hockey here.

Like it or not Detroit wins cups. Hate us like the Yankees if you want but lemme tell you, we don't buy all-stars 99% of the time, we make them from deep scouting. If you wanna hate on a team hate on your own for their inability to draft well and flimsy scouting as well as incompetent GM's. Canadians never hate on Montreal or Edmonton when they did excellent long ago but god forbid a United States team does well and OH MY GOD *GASP* they are an original six team to boot.

No one believed in Detroit this year and they hardly got talked about. Nothing made me laugh harder than the hour long special on Crosby before any of the final round games were played, take that you crybaby. I lost respect for that guy the second he started to insult Zetterberg in a news conference because a reporter said Zetterberg did a good play to stop Crosby and he replied that anyone could have done that and it was nothing special. Real classy scrub, go back to the IHL and before that where people truly have been building your ego since you were 12.

Oh and do you folks really want to know why the wings win often? Here is the big secret, we can score on any line and our defensive core is second to none. You think shutting down the first 2 lines is enough? Dead Wrong. Look in especially play-offs time where the scoring happens, its from everywhere. That folks is called D E P T H. I still laugh when I remember getting Kris Draper for 1 dollar when his old team collapsed.

Now I really wanna see if my second team the Capitals can play like last year, I want a Detroit Washington final round so my TV explodes from the epic.

According to insiders, Ottawa would trade netminder Martin Gerber and defenceman Andrej Meszaros to Los Angeles, the Kings would move 20-year-old centre Anze Kopitar to Chicago and the Blackhawks would propel goalie Nikolai Khabibulin and either of young blueliners Brent Seabrook or Cam Barker to the Senators.

Win-win-win?

I would love to see Khabibulin in net for Ottawa, a decent goaltender is something they've needed.

Sounds good to me bro.
