Hockey 2008

Yeah, I'm already wondering where he's going to end up. (Prays for Washington.)

I bet the Rangers will get Jagr for one more year. It doesn't seem like Sather is really excited to re-sign Sean Avery though, which is a damn shame. If they don't keep Avery then they really won't be the same team next year. I think Jagr would be more replaceable than him at this point.

I seem to like Jagr a lot more then Avery because I think Avery as a person is disgusting. He is just a bad guy in general and doesn't have good sportsmanship.

Some of his antics can be questionable, yeah, but he provides a lot of needed jump for the Rangers and he gets his whole team going. Their record was horrible when he was out with a minor injury this season. Teams can really benefit from having a real energetic pest like him or Darcy Tucker in Toronto. Avery to me is one of those guys that you absolutely hate if he was playing against you but you would absolutely love if he was on your team. Keep in mind, I'm saying I like Avery and I'm also a Devil's fan. If anything, I should hate his stinkin guts, lol. If the Rangers did anything different, I would have liked to see them keep Nylander with Jagr instead of trading him away. Its been a while since Jagr played that well with a center. There were a lot of high hopes with the Jagr/Gomez combination but those guys just can't seem to click which is too bad.

I rock a Jarkko Ruutu t-shirt regularly. I'd hate him if he wasn't a Penguin.

Yeah I see your point there. Me being an Islanders fan at heart I really just hate pretty much any ranger player =p.

Does that include LaFontaine when he was a Ranger? :P

In my opinion, the best time for the Rangers was when they had Jeff Beaukaboom (?) and Ulf Samuelsson wrecking people in the defensive zone, and Esa Tikkenen calling opponent players in the middle of the night and cussing at them in his own Swede-English language.

On another note, when the hell is Don Cherry gonna die? I mean, I love the guy, but don't you think it's time to retire those horrible pimp suits he wears??? (Hockey Night in Canada for my peeps, yo.)

Worst part of the '07-'08 season: (other than Ottawa getting swept first round)

We share with all Canadians the disappointment of this news, as we feel as strongly about the theme as they do. We are proud of the association with the former theme song and are saddened that we were unable to reach a deal, especially when we presented an offer which we believe was not substantively different from what the rights holders had proposed to us. We love the song and know this is a huge disappointment for us and for millions of Canadians. As of today, CBC Sports is moving forward with our plan to have the Canadian public compose the new Hockey Night in Canada theme song.

This afternoon John Ciccone communicated with Scott Moore of CBC and requested a meeting on Monday to further discuss the issues surrounding the Hockey Theme. At 4:59 PM (one minute before CBC's deadline) Mr. Moore advised that CBC intended to proceed with an announcement of a National contest unless he had the basis for an agreement. Ms. Claman is saddened and disappointed that CBC is not prepared to negotiate further.

Damn.

Grapes has got to be one of the most fashionable men on television nowadays. I don't understand this 'horrible pimp suits' ideology.

"All you kids out there...," you better enjoy him as much as you can, because I don't think he'll be broadcasting for too much longer.

Never I hope D:

He lives a few blocks down from my cousin. We went over to his house and asked for his autograph one summer evening back in 2001. He gladly came out and talked to us for a bit, but talked my brother out of having him sign his Buffalo Sabers jersey.

In regards to the Hockey Night in Canada theme, while I will be disappointed if its scraped due to royalties and copyright infringements, we have a perfectly good substitute right here:

If they replace the hockey night theme song with Stompin Toms, I'd be one happy man. Props to you for that idea Zephayra.

EDIT - CTV BUYS THE RIGHTS TO THE HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA THEME SONG

Thanks :D I try.

However, the original Hockey Night in Canada theme song is still just as good, so I'm glad its been salvaged by CTV.

So any of the Leafs fans surprised about the Darcy Tucker buyout like I am?

I'm a Leaf hater, but I'm definitely surprised. They're really cleaning out the roster and as good as it should be for them, I think Tucker was a questionable choice. I'd rather have seen McCabe gone. At least Tucker doesn't score on his own net.

Also, Ray Emery is gone from the Senators. Finally, thank the heavens.

I can't wait for hockey to start again. The Blackhawks home games have been rarely televised up until this year when a new president of relations came in after the death of the old one. Hopefully the 'Hawks do even better this year.

Yay, its FREE AGENCY TIME! I'll be visiting this thread a bit today.

There's a lot of "wtf" in free agency today. Washington signed Jose Theodore... I thought they wanted to do just as good if not better this year. With the loss of Theodore, Colorado signs... Andrew Raycroft? They signed Darcy Tucker to a two year deal also. I really would have liked to have seen him go to a better team. Mike Green from the Caps and Corey Perry from the Ducks both got locked up for multiyear deals from their teams which is good to see. CuJo's back in Toronto which doesn't sound like "rebuilding" to me.. and I don't see him teaching Vesa Toskala all that much. The guys damn good already. I just don't get it.

I live in the NY area, I'm a Devils fan. I'm glad most of our free agents like Clarkson and Pandolfo specifically were re-signed, but Sergei Brylin still hasn't been. Rumor in the papers is that Brendan Shanahan is looking to make a stop in NJ before hanging up the skates. I always though Lamoriello was a smart GM so if he's not getting Shanny on clearance, I hope it doesn't happen. Then of course, the big buzz going on in NY is that there's a 50/50 chance that Mats Sundin will be wearing a Rangers sweater next year. They're turning right into the Rangers of yesterday and going for big but old names again it seems. IMO, they would be better off re-signing Avery and getting a center such as Brandon Morrison.

Hot damn! Blackhawks sign Brian Campbell to an 8 year deal AND sign Cristobal Huet to 4 years. Big adds to Chicago's blue line and net. I'm smelling playoffs next year, especially if Havlat stays healthy.
