In other words ... you say Yanzi that you should be raised and shouldn't have to set your hp in Selbina or where ever ... I say that by you not doin that "it's" ignorant ... so breaking it down even more so you can understand that ... I'm saying by you not setting your hp in Selbina for example and wanting a raise in the dunes that those 2 "situations" are ignorant ...

I'm not calling you, Yanzi ignorant as a person ... get it now?

it just so happens that english is not my primary language. is it possible for a situation to be ignorant? *run for the nearest dictionary*
though i kinda feel we're getting to the point where we're beating a dead horse...

*claps* you got it ... gold star fer youuuuuuu!!!!!

ignorant (www.m-w.com): destitute of knowledge or education , UNAWARE, UNINFORMED.
maybe it's just me... but i don't see your personification of a situation allowing you to call a situation ignorant. it's quite a misnomer if you ask me. man... what an undeducated situation! better get that situation educated and informed!
悪いけど、お前の英語はあやしいだっと思う。

Yanzi MENDOKUSAI ne!

Yanzi, you're like this on the forum boards too? :o

People who don't set their HP in Seb while xping in the Dunes are ignorant pricks and should not get raises ever, in fact, don't even party with them, because they will make your blood boil, get themselves killed, and steal valuable xp time from you. That's the bottom line, get with the program!

As far situations go, "ignorant" is not a property of situation, it's just not possible.

as far as being ignorant, that's not true. people DO know the consequences.
i don't think it's fair to label them pricks of any kind. it's a choice. just because you like to hp in selbina, i don't call you a prick for wasting my time (time needed to run back to jeuno).
let's put it this way, if i die, is it my fault that i died? most likely it's because of a lame PT. it should be their responsibility to find a raise. it's my choice to keep HP in jeuno because i don't want to waste my time at the end of PT running back to bastok or sand.
though nowadays, i'm smart enough to not be in a position to die... either by zoning with people or not joining noob PTs. but then again, this is all hypothetical; if no one in the PT dies, this wouldn't be an issue at all.

Ok since i started this post and it has turned into two person fight, let me clarify. When you are fighting on the beaches, you die to a pug, and you expect us to wait 20 minutes, sorry to say but you have been booted. I cant stand people who waste my time. Im not an exp junky except when im partying as a ninja. Each fight takes my money and a lot of it too. I go through parties like water when im a ninja so I no longer have to take the first invite i get.

I recently (last night) forgot to set my HP in valkurm. It was in lower jeuno. What i had done was go to get signet instead of set HP. I felt like a moron but my party didnt care at all. Honestly it took about 5 minutes to get from Jeuno back to the dunes. I can imagine if i had waited for a raise. Now the reason i hate it so much is that getting the raises in places like dunes and Quifim are almost impossible. Yet you are willing to sacrifice the well-being of your party in order to get a raise to spare yourself 200 exp. If you didnt HP near then either you party will wait or regretfully we will have to kick you. Sorry that is just my stance on the matter. If my party had wanted to say "Sorry Fae but were gonna get a replacement for you." I would have said no problem. ( There was no chance of that though as for one i was party leader, two it was an awesome party, and three they were a lot of them my friends.) Its not ignorance at all, its just selfishness in my honest opinion. Its a flame board so im flaming :D

Also, just a little clarification. You do not want to rely on a dictionary to understand American English. Especially in a game environment. If you were to look up WOOT or owned or even pwned, you would sadly be out of luck. We go through slang like other people go through a nice heaping bowl of Dreyers Cookies and Cream. You obviously have a very impressive knowledge of the language and I envy you as being American, we like to think we are the greatest and so dont encourage language learning as we think English is all we need to know. Im currently studying Japanese in fact. Just thought id provide a little helpful tip into our beloved language :D

that's all i am saying. it's a choice. doesn't make anyone less a prick than the other. as PT leader you have a choice too, to do anything you want to do. i have yet to boot anyone or see anyone get booted. in my opinion, it just breeds bad habits.
here's a hypothetical situation that mirrors our discussion: if someone DCs, how long will you wait for him/her? my experience so far tells me NA PTs wait at most 1 minute then pick up someone else. are you going to say waiting for him to reconnect is wasting your XP time? you can easily pick up a replacement (same as respawning) and continue to XP. to me, that's just rude. i guess that's the difference between what JP or NA ppl see in the PT.
along that line of thought, i think it would be rude for a PT to get someone killed and then expect that person to suck it up. sure it might take a little time, but it's courtesy that you would like to have reciprocated. i enjoy a PT when it not only focused solely on XP, but you can also enjoy your time together. what is waiting a few mins and chatting here and there?
as for you being a ninja, i see why you would be worried about xp. but then again, there's a difference between wasting time vs. wasting gil on powders. you waste no gil waiting someone to raise or recover from raise sickness. you only waste gil when a weak PT is getting under 100xp a kill. and if you're worried about that... then that's a different problem and has nothing to do with waiting for raises.
and lastly, no i don't always depend on a dictionary for my english. but tell me, since you claim you're an american, is a situation ever ignorant? is that correct english?

I just chipped in for the heck of it, and it was sarcasm either way.

Again, I can't draw from a lot of experience in FFXI, but having played a cleric for years in EQ I can only say: Classes with any kind of resurrect ability need to resurrect, or not play that class. That's really what it comes down to.

There is no arguing over that it would be easier, faster, more efficient, whatever to just HP. However, if you are close, it is plain and simple your duty (look it up if you are unfamuliar with the true meaning of duty) to raise. It matters not whether the person is level 1 or level 70, you are there to help.

If you can't handle that responsibility then don't play that class, but ffs, don't make an ass out of yourself by arguing otherwise.

Having said that - it is awesome to educate people about the effort it takes to raise someone, and alternatives. I went to level 7 before I knew that there was a homepoint, to automatically assume someone is ignorant because they didn't set their homepoint close by is in my opinion wrong.

Of course once their ignorance is proven, after they have been unsuccessfully educated, then by all means, put them in the box with the worst of the worst. Until then further the online community by taking 5 minutes out of your busy live to raise someone and educate them about how to avoid such a situation next time around, that's not too difficult to do, and it's good karma (if you happen to believe in that).

Yanzi im sorry, you bring up some very valid points. I hope you dont feel that i was bashing you in any wasy cause i most assuredly wasnt. Umm no id say that a situation can be ignorant. I guess the people IN the situation could be ignorant thereby making it ignorant but that would be pure speculation.

Also about the raises. Yeah honestly ill be the first to admit that NA are extremely rude compared to JP. You must understand though that many things you might consider rude are not considered by us to be rude. I remember a conversation with a JP i had once. We had a PLD who was grossly high-leveled for our party. A JP was the leader and i asked if he agreed. He did and i said that he should look for a replacement and kindly ask the PLD to disband. I know that I would completely understand this if i was asked but he replied "No its rude". I was blown away and it was then i realized that I knew nothing about the Japanese culture. It was around this point I stopped checking every single person I came across just because. Now that I have, I realize how upset people can get because of it.

I thought on what you said and will attempt to be a more considerate person in game. To me my actions seem understandable but now i can say that many might not agree. So thanks for pointing out some errors i have made, ill do my best to correct them.

don't have to apologize. everyone has their own view. it's perfectly fine to share it and consider it. it's not fine when they are bashed because the view is different from one's own.

Well, one of the great things about this game is that if you do have someone that does something "stupid" like leaving their hp in jeuno while lvling in valkurm, for...whatever reason, then the party leader has the ability to kick them out and find someone else. If it's going to take you ten or fifteen minutes to get back to your party because you wanted to save some time on the walk back, do you really expect them to wait? This is to say that it wasn't a mistake on the part of the party, an unlucky gob suicide for instance. I know I spent at least a half an hour in yhoator yesterday waiting for my party members to get raised because of Gob aggro on our way between camp and the zone. Sometimes the wait for a raise just *isn't* worth it, even if the person's hp is in jeuno. By the time they were raised and fully healed, the party leader could have found a replacement and the party could have started gaining xp again. I guess if you want to get the best out of the game, use some common sense.

so you're basically saying you would boot someone instead of getting them raised? is that also what you would like happen to you if you died?

I know my recent experience with getting raised went like this.

Earlier in the day I had just obtained my sub-job ability. My buddy Kelsilv wanted to lvl his wtm so we teamed up and started killing stuff. Several hours later after killing things non-stop we were lvl 10 fighting outside of Gusgen (sp) mines. Night time falls and I'm engaged with a stone eater and a Ghost spawns right next to me. Low and behold I die. Now I'm telling my friend to just wait and I'd be right back but he said he would look for a raise. So I waited while he searched. This wtm ThaiStick comes by of his own volition(my party member did not message him) or maybe one of the people that walked by my dead corpse called him in, whichever the case I don't know. So he raises me and I thank him /bow /salute ect. and we run to the entrance of Gusgen to allow my res sickness to wear off. We run back outside and Thaistick is standing there with two of his friends so I wave again to recognize him and to again show appriciation. As we start another fight he says "Don't wave, pay me!" Now that pissed me off. I don't see anything wrong with charging but if you want money you should state it upfront instead of getting pissed and yelling stupid assinine things. If he had said that upfront I would have told him where he could stick it and then went to my HP. Unfortunatly my friend went over and paid him 10,000 gil O_o His reasoning was soley so he wouldn't see him posting complaints about how wtm are abused on a forum somewhere.

Personally I have no problem just going to HP at my lvl. It gives me more time to farm crystals off easies finsh off stacks of items and make more money. Plus I don't have to wait for the res sickness to wear off and then the subsequent resting to get back to full health. =D Also assuming you control the area in which you set your HP it's a good way to get you signent refreshed.

nice, you can always give me a hollar if you're giving 10k a raise.

I'm not giving anything but my gratitude for a raise. :P

If someone is nice enough to get a chocobo to raise me then I have no problem reimbursing them for their chocobo fees but I think it would be rediculous to expect someone to come from multiple maps away to raise you.

so you're basically saying you would boot someone instead of getting them raised? is that also what you would like happen to you if you died?
I've never kicked anyone without getting them a raise, unless they did something completely stupid and killed or almost killed the entire party. I'm just saying that it would be 10 times more convenient to oneself and one's party if one's homepoint was set somewhere near camp. Imagine your frustration at your blm dying and saying, "uh can you guys get me a raise, my homepoint is all the way in bastok." So you spend ten minutes shouting or /tell ing like an idiot and pissing random white mages off asking for raises in order to get your blm in working order again (after yet another 5 mins or whatever it takes for weakness to wear off), when, if they had set their hp in selbina they would have lost like what is it 300 xp, and saved 20 mins by bloodporting and running back. point is: if you set your homepoint in jeuno so that you can return quicker, it's convenient for only one person:you. If you set it in selbina it's more convenient for SIX people five of which are trying to help you out anyway by letting you join for xp or whatever. Sorry for all the "you's" didn't mean anyone in particular. If you're going to party, you gotta do what's best for the party. Otherwise you might as well solo, cause you're only working for yourself anyway.[/b][/quote]

my point from before is: if you got me killed, it's your responsibility to get me raised. i'm not taking a hit for someone's stupidity in a PT which gets me killed. why would my homepoint make any difference? you're saying that 5 people are trying to help me out.. but if i end up dying how is losing xp helping me out? and you say i should do what's best for my party. i try to get the best gears, eat food, and help pull my weight. where i set my homepoint is irrelavent to party performance.
