What are your thoughts on remakes of classic slashers? I've read on numerous websites that they are remaking Child's Play and Nightmare on Elm Street (even has an official website: http://www.nightmareonelmstreet.com/), to name a couple. I'm not sure on the credibility, but I did a search on google just to see if any more are scheduled for release, and I am even coming up with films such as The Poltergeist, The Stepfather, IT, Children of the Corn, etc. all scheduled to be remade.

If you want to know my reaction to all these films being redone, I will tell you, simply, that people need to be original. Yes, it's cool that classic horror films we grew up with are being redone with fancy, shmancy CGI. Wow. Honestly, though, be original and make your own classic film. Nothing, in my opinion, is really up to par with these films as far as originality.

Maybe that's why they're remaking old films. >.>

yeah ive heard about a few of these remakes coming, and ive actually been talking alot about michael bays nightmare on elm street.
You know, its great when remakes happen and they turn out good, i actually liked friday the 13th, granted jason could run...and use a bow and arrow with precision, it still was cool.

But with people like jason, it doesnt really matter who plays the character. Its a mask, its not going to be all that noticeable since he doesnt talk anyway.

But when it comes to my favorite slasher, nightmare on elm street, and they refuse to let Robert Englund have the role he made famous, That pisses me off.
He IS Freddy. I cant see anyone doing it better. But now i hear they have the guy who played Roshack (Sp?) in watchmen cast as Krueger, While yes i could see him playing the role, I just dont fucking wanna.
They say its because they want to go into a darker area, bring out a much darker and less comical freddy, Sure thats a great idea. But Robert Englund played that Freddy in the first nightmare. He was fucking terrifying in that one.

But what is krueger without the comical quirks, he was so evil and did it in fun maniacal ways. I mean come on "Welcome to prime time bitch!" and "Now your playing with power!" are some of the greatest catch phrases in the nightmare series.

While i will see this movie regardless of the BS changes, i just want to see Englund reprise his role one final time in one final nightmare.

Just a bunch of torture porn, imo. The classics were gory, yes, but these new ones are borderline obscene. Disgusting.

Agreed. This makes me wonder on how Child's Play is going to play out; seeing that Chucky was a bit of a smartass himself. I'd hate to see a boring ass CGI-Chucky that tried to play a darker role.

Freddy is by far my most favorite slasher villain. Like in Nightmare on Elm street 6 Freddy's dead where he kills that kid in a video game and finishes with "Great graphics". That's just fucking gold right there. I find it really hard to see anyone play that roll as well as Englund. (Btw, 1, 2, and 6 were the cool ones, the others were meh at best)

Chucky would be interesting. We have a lot better stuff now so we could make a pretty neat Chucky flick but I don't see why they'd need to remake it. You can't really change the story or add anything. 1, 2, and 3 were great. 4 and 5 were utter crap.

I love horror movies though and I will see every remake but I won't be happy about it, damn it!

I'm ok with the remakes personally. Rob Zombie's Halloween remake was simply amazing; Totally blew the original out of the water. The Friday the 13th remake was fun as well.

I had heard rumors that Pascal Laugier was set to direct a remake of Hellraiser, a series that desperately needs fresh blood at the helm. That would greatly excite me since his work on Martyrs was awesome. Say what you will about the French, they know how to make a horror flick! Check out Martyrs, Frontiers and Inside for proof! (check at your own risk, these are some pretty fucked-up movies, especially Inside)

Freddy was okay but a bit too cheesy for my taste. Chucky was okay too and having Brad Dourif do his voice is what makes the character interesting.

The remake of Friday the 13th wasn't too bad either but it wasn't nearly as scary as the original.

Imo, Rob Zombie's remake of Halloween was pretty damn good. Malcolm Mcdowell as Dr. Loomis wasn't as good as Donald Pleasance but I found that the new Michael Myers more than made up for it.

I can't wait to see Rob Zombie's remake of the 2nd one which comes out the end of this month.

Myrrh Dream Warriors (Nightmare 3) is by far the greatest! I loved and still love Dream Warriors.

Nightmare on Elm Street is my favorite horror series. I never could get into Chuckys, they're too terribly cheesy for me. I do love Friday the 13ths as well.

Totally up for horror remakes, but I tend to enjoy the idea more when it is someone like Mr.Zombie who is taking on the task.

Horror movies nowadays are really just gore porn, like Xali said, they aim more for shock value than actual "make you jump out of your seat" scary like some of these did. Even tho Child's Play and Nightmare on Elm Street were horror movies, they had their funny quirks to them that you dont see anymore. IF they were to do remakes, they would have to make sure to capture those quirky funny moments that these movies had otherwise, they gonna get shitty reviews from fans in the end.

CGI ruined horror movies. Rob Zombie and least tries to stay out of the whole CGI business because he really loves the classic italian horror movies, which are all pretty hilarious.

I agree with much of this but at the same time i think, its hard to find things today that are truly scary compared to those originals for the simple fact, we've seen it before. The first horror movies made were scary and really good because it was still new to us.

Idk i think sometimes theres only so many ways you can kill people or create serial killers.

Yea traditional costumes are the way to go. And they are so much more realistic now they could really capture the true fright affect the good ol' movies provided.

You have a point, we as a generation have "seen it all" really and maybe thats one of the reasons why movies like the "Final Destination" series try to come up with innovative, altho gruesome, ways to kill off people. Still, gore porn doesnt really do anything for me, I'd rather watch something suspenseful that will make me jump outta my seat or something lol

I thoroughly enjoyed 'The Strangers' for this. For new movies I found it at least brought suspense back.

As a huge horror/suspense flick lover, every movie being predictable for several years now is killing the horror libraries.

30 days of night was decent. I liked the throw back to traditionally gruesome and terrifying vampires. The Strangers was pretty f'king scary not only because it's based on true events, but because you can easily put yourself in their place. Being able to relate that closely really adds to the terror.

I love Rob Zombies films. Although they are more gore than suspense, there is some suspense.

Thats the movie i was trying to think of, The Strangers. Weird ass movie but had me jumping a few times. I dont see why alot of people like Rob Zombie alot, im not much of a fan, perhaps halloween will change that for me. I saw house of 1000 corpses way back, and i thought it was a terrible movie =/. Guess im weird but i didnt like it lol. I liked the strangers, the first couple SAWs because they were different from what we're used to but yeah, its really hard to create more originality these days with everything we've seen.

We need some Virtual Reality with real action stabbing to enjoy horror flicks.

This. We need some sort of technology that will put us IN the movie heh heh that should scare the begeezus out of some of us!

On a related note, what kind of horror movie victim would you be? The runner, the genius who splits from the group, the brave one who tries to fight back, and um I forget what other types exist =P

You can put right in the action. I would be the one who sources out a baseball bat, or a couple daggers/knives. And I wouldn't hold them like some freaked out chick holding the knives outwards. No no, I know how to properly hold a knife to inflict damage. Or I would beat the shit of out the scary man, beat him til I crush his skull and there could be no hope for a sequel!!

I would be the dude with a gun and a backup incase for the ever so frequent gun jam lol. AK47 should do.

That and i would like to investigate as to how michael myers catches up to his victims tho he never runs.

He has a special stage door that always leads him to where his next victim is. Other than that, I'm drawin a blank =P

And lol cheebs, no sequel means no more fun times for us D= gotta leave SOMETHING no?

The film that had me jumping a lot recently was The Haunting in Connecticut. Tons of jumpy moments up in that bitch. Well I did go see it at the cinema which may add to that, I never find a horror film scary if I watch it at home.
