How did you come up with the name for your character?

Use to be one of the best singers in the underground (in America..) metal scene...his name: Bjorn "Speed" Strid..

I got the game at Wal-Mart late one night, back in the day, as I left Waffle House with him and the rest of Soilwork as they toured through Dallas. The name just seemed to fit.
 
Armi - shorter version of ArmachiA which I use for everything. It's a Vampire the Masquerade character I had for years (Lasombra is anyone plays this game). I went with Armi because I'll never name a character Armachia untill (*Dream*) the V:TM MMO comes out (*End Dream*) so I shortened it and made it cuter sounding.

Other Characters:

Langli - from a Neon Genesis Evangelion character Asuka Soryu Langley. She was going monk she I made it "Langli" to give her a more Asian feel.

Bimbimgus - My (Now EX) husband had a tarutaru on FFXI named "Gimgimgus" my LS played on this and created Limlimgus (Aidyn), Funfungus (Deca), Pimpimgus(Arora), Fimfimgus(Astiroth), and Bimbimgus(Me). Sadly, Bimbimgus is the only survivor.

Lokee - I had a character for an RPG my friend was creating called Unizen, some weird space thing. Anyway, I got to be a space pirate named Lokee. Lokee was actually my first character on the Fenrir Server, but when I switched Servers I deleted her there and eventually remade her on Q.

Rysis - I needed a mule. I didn't have one, so I thought I should get one. In V:TM Rysis was the one who turned Armachia into a Vampire, but after that he pretty much became her bitch. So... Mule = bitch. Rysis.

Raimi - Some of you may have seen Broken Saints (www.brokensaints.com) an AWESOME webcomic I was a fan of for years. Raimi was my favorite character (Who's male, and Raimi is a female Elvaan on XI but whatever >>). Also a play on "Armi" cuz I had to rp with the Nightblades during a 5-2 run and couldn't play Armi (Long story) so I invented Raimi.

Well...since I inhertied Lonewolf I can't say that I named him.

But my first character Zhaoyun was from the Romance of the Three Kingdom novels (and...Dynasty Warriors ><). He was the warrior that rushed into an enemy fort and saved Liu Bie's child from Cao Cao. I thought it was noble so that was the name I picked.

Um... A lot of name-gens use data they know about you, so I wonder if thats how it got the name Chadd. I've had things auto-gen a mix of my first and last name to create names and they came out really sad sounding as far as names. Boss, Rowman, Rosman. I'd never use any of em, though if you use the first two together and just think of it in speech form, it says "Boss Roman" which = Ceasar which = cool.

Since the question has been presented to my character plenty of times, I might as well tell the whole story in its unabridged valley girl tone. (Warning- It has reference to Jpop ・ロ・ノ)

So one day I went over to my friend’s house. At the time, she was Aya Matsuura crazy. We spent the day watching and listening to all Aya Matsuura PVs and songs for the most part (I think I can skip over the other torturous Hello Project! stuff that I watched as well). My friend turns to me and says:

Friend: Have you seen the MANSUURA? (The other friend is shaking his head in the background)
Me: Eh? The what?
Friend: You soo have to see this!

Then she starts playing the Goodbye Natsuo PV and points at Aya Matsuura in her best ability to dress up like a guy (with a little goatee and mustache and girly polished nails). For some reason the Ayankeys (Sanrio plush thing) were freakier than her “Mansuura.” We had a good laugh for the rest of the day.

A couple mixed days and months while I was AIM, she would send over screen caps (she just discovered how to make those) of the Mansuura to me mixed in with some funny quotes and captions attached to them. Most of the caps were the ones where the Mansuura was pouting. So among the little AIM group of friends and a Jpop board, the Mansuura became some ongoing joke or pun.

About the same time, I met Armi from the Jpop forums. She kept going on about FFXI and how I should join Q server (I only made one character for another server). So we talked for a bit and I was trying to decide what name to use for the character…

Ran: Eh, I have no idea what to name another character.
Armi: Come to Q server! >.< RAWR! Why don’t you use your forum name?
Ran: That is possible. Chances are that it is taken though. :P
Armi: Hmmm… (Waving Q server campaign posters in the background)
Ran: Well if Ranpha is taken… I will use Ranphamansuura! XD
Armi: hahaha Right on! (She does not believe me). >_< Choose Sandy!

Then I create the character and get to the name box. Ranpha was taken and thus Ranphamansuura was born on Q. The first comment I received as Ranpha: “UR name is LONG.” (You have to love FFXI welcoming committees :P)

And that is the incredibly boring story of the name.

Name...

Every once in a while some one will run by me and ask me if I am Squee from Magic the Gathering... The answer is no. I got my name from the comic book character Squee, out of Vazques' Johnny the Homicidal Maniac. That comic always made me laugh and I figured why not name my taru after the neighbor dude. :wink:
 
My IRL name is Ronald so...

Ron + (some stupid random anime/cliche movie name suffix) ith = Ronith

My name is based on the Nordic God Tyr, god of death & destruction. Just had to tack on an extra "r" cause some tool had the regular version... And I never see whoever has just Tyr... :evil:
 
I'm thinking about naming a mule Eisengroebenschnitzenaufenraugenfunfsehnenglichezesselibraughen after the war/pld gear... :shock:
 
i read a very good series by elizabeth haydon. Aria was a beautiful star (and i think it is irl) and was a common nickname. Aria...obviously was taken so i changed it to areya :D

In Any MMPORG game i name myself after a city from the game "Runescape". In Everquest i was a Mage, so i named myself "Yanille", the city of Magic". and in FFXI i am a Warrior. So i named my self "Ardougne", which is the city full of Knights, Paladins, and Heros. I get a lot of /tell's asking me if i played Runescape ^,^.
 
a friend of mine did a galka random name and got bigcutworm. i then used it for my elvaan and got totion on the first try. that was on a different server, so i used totion when i bought the game for ps2
 
my names and reasons are...

Lenneth- valkryie profile main character, also in star ocean till the end of time

Chopa- in my One Piece DVD box sets the english sub-titled name of my favourite character "Chopper" (a half man half raindeer pirate docter) comes out as Chopa, and i decided i like the name chopa more then chopper

Dreamless- in chrono trigger i believe the last boss "lavos" cast a spell called dreamless (and i usaully fall down >.<) and the name just sounded cool, but dreamless is only a mule
 
I found a elfish name translator.

I knew I was going to be a Drk, so I put in the word dark.

The name Aerandir came up, and frankly I think it is a killer name for an elv. I haven't seen anyone with a name even similar to it.
