How do you get this Uber Body Piece?!?! (side story)

lol @ the people complaining about the crit rate on Phl. body.

Let's abstract this, make it simple.

You have two armors, both with the same TP gain capability.

One offers extra defensive abilties which do nothing for TP gain, the other offers an ability which may or may not effect your offensive ability.

In the view of offensive (not a NIN), which of these two is better? Obviously the one that may benefit your offense, because the other doesn't. It's even more obvious when one costs multi-millions, and the other is free.

but still.. I can see the point behind it. I really can't see why one body is better than the other in general at this point. +10 evasion shouldn't matter in any group situation if you're a DD anyways D: and if you're solo-ing well I guess it would depend on the job. But for us RDMs it won't do all that much and stupid for us to solo stuff that way when we have the fun sleep gravity nuke run around and nuke methods :P

There are many better options than SH for any job except possibly Monk (and I consider Temple Cyclas a viable alternative - it still adds Acc, just only half as much as SH), including the vastly cheaper Jaridah Peti.

SH is only better than a Jaridah Peti or Temple Cyclas if you have millions and millions in other Accuracy gear (including a Peacock Charm) and use Attack food. With Sushi, SH is more of a status icon really. Most jobs have such crap evasion that the eva+10 on SH is not going to make any difference whatsoever (other than placebo) against anything Tough or higher.

Also, a Haubergeon is better than SH 100% of the time (if you aren't a Ninja).

Edit: Oh, and SAM can wear SH.

idk about that i kinda like being a shadow casting rdm some time or a soul eatting killer rdm:wink: . though id have pick sh over the pah for most them occasions. nara vest/ assult jerkin works just fine on most mobs though so sh only become more need on harder more acc/harder hitting mobs; in which case we normaly use the nuke method

I do agree it's better according to what it SHOULD do (if it doesn't actually increase crits., then it's not really better), but its not free. Time is never free. You have to spend time doing assaults to get this piece of armor and considering the current price of some of the torques(8k assault points) going for 3 million gil on AH now, it's quite possible you could spend less assault points and make enough gil to buy the SH. This might be a viable alternative if the assault items are valuable and the body piece actually parses as bad as everyone suggests.

It's not exactly hard to get 20k Ilrusi Atoll points when Lamia No.13 is ridiculously easy(and fun.)

Besides, if it's bugged, it'll be fixed.

I don't disagree. I just don't think casually calling the item free when you have to spend time obtaining those points and when those points can be used to obtain other items that can be resold for gil.

By the "it's free" logic you can say all in game items are free. "This was free, all I had to do was spend 10M gil on it."

Well, more like "This was free, all I had to do was get a V.Claw from (insert HNM/KS here)."

Firstly aint a big fan of gimping it out for 16 levels.

Secondly, Byrnie and Haubergan is better the SH, and in latter lvls is shiro togi. That is the one I can think of from the SAM perspective, not sure about you other jobs. Now I am not sure how Shiro Togi and this do when parsed vs this piece we are talking about here. I would actualy really like to see the results, but seeing as how SAM can not wear this piece... oh well.

I was just speaking between these two pieces. He was asking which is better between the two but he cant even use the Paw until 72.

SH loses versus this in TP gain as well: http://ffxi.somepage.com/itemdb/7488

But only 3 jobs that use SH can effectively switch to homam. Drk and pld wouldnt be using SH. And then you take into account how many people actually have it. Though yes, Homam = best acc and tp for the jobs that can equip it

Yup. SH is available to different jobs than the Pahluwan. Somewhere apples were being compared to oranges, so I tossed that in as what I would call obviously better...Never saw that this was job specific, aside from maybe saying Shaun is job X and Skaw is job Y. Mmm'kay then why do people talk about anything outside of that? The thread began as a follow up to some other discussion. I'm just tossing another piece out there that has as much to do with this unfocused discussion as the next piece. Seemed to me that the only parameters were 1, body piece...And 2, TP piece. If I'm wrong, who cares? At least now you have an explanation.

Oh /joy

Well it began with me saying that it is not a good body piece for a MNK. I don't think it is. For a THF or a COR it would be nice because of the +RACC. What does a MNK need that for though? Also to get the subtle blow affect you need the set. Why would you gimp yourself as a MNK by wearing that set when there are other pieces that you can wear that are better?

As a SAM I am saving so I can get my hands on a Brynie. To me that is the ultimate armor for a SAM to have until level 70. Stack that with the ouch kotes/AF gloves and that is a nice setup for a SAM.

Increased rate of critical hits means more damage. The only other useful stat on both pieces for a MNK is +acc of which is the same amount on each. So either get nothing, but acc or get acc and crit. hits. The choice is obvious unless you are an idiot.

Unless you have two Woods/Snipe rings for TP build which you can swap out with vic. rings, I'd say a hauby is better. The 10+ Acc and +2 str/dex is better than 10 ext attack. Just my oppinion though. Sorry to go off topic.

So you really think 20k points is worth it for a piece of armor for a MNK that will wear it for one level? I don't.

Unless monk is their second job, NO monk will have a shura togi lying around or an osode lying around for when they hit 73/75. Is there something better? Sure, but the Pahluwan is still the third best body for monks, and it's very easy to obtain. Also, it's not like you're going to just throw it away as soon as you hit 73, if you level another job that can use it, that job will get to enjoy it's stats as well until they get another body piece.

I agree with Shaun on this one, well kind of. Its not a bad peice for monk but Itd be better to work towards a SH imo. Cause when its "Set: Enhances "Subtle Blow" Effect" to get that your talkin 100k AP now which would take a considerable more amount of time to get. And if the mnk only want the body then Sub Blow is out of the equation and now its just +10 acc to +10 acc. I say get 16k AP for 2 chiv. chains and sell thoes both for a total of what like 4mil or whatever they are at. Then just sell some old stuff, farm do a bcnm or w/e and get a SH. Then youll have your +10 acc for 18 lvls instead of three and a nice peice of equip you can use on other jobs or sell for some gil whne you get your togi.
