How do you get this Uber Body Piece?!?! (side story)

Okay, look. NIN and SAM may be two different jobs, but, with few exceptions, the same gear will tend to show the same results across multiple jobs. In the case of NIN vs SAM WS, SAM benefits even more from the added STR of the Haubergeon over the Byrnie... and less from the added Attack of the Byrnie... during weapon skills. Can you deny this? Can you honestly say this statement is incorrect? The attack will be counted once, not thrice, and STR factors into yuki/kasha/gekko more than twice as much as jin.
Go look up a secondary attributes for ws's discussion, that bolded line is so very wrong.

There is no one best piece for ninja. Deci's testing showed that it was best with his complementary gear, his playstyle, and vs the mobs he fights as a ninja. This doesn't mean it's the best piece for every ninja in every situation, and certainly doesn't mean it's the best for any job that can use it.

Why would you gimp yourself as a MNK by wearing that set when there are other pieces that you can wear that are better?

Considering how much Subtle Blow it could actually give, the set could be a godsend for any melee who is told not to melee a HNM because they give it too much TP.

Don't talk about jobs you don't play, or you wouldn't be called an idiot so much. Talk about SAM all you want, but since you don't play MNK, shut the hell up about it.

Not to mention the Pahluwan Pants are basically Shura Haidate -1. If you don't have a god shell, these are the best DD/WS pants you can get as MNK or SAM. Fact.

You might call the set gimp, but thats because you're too shortsighted to realize it's usefulness.

Just so you know I do play MNK. Have played one up to level 50 so far and am working a new one because my other one is deleted. So don't talk about things you know nothing about.

Theres a difference between level 50, and level 75. Besides, just because you're 50, doesn't mean you're any good or know whats best for the job.

Last time I checked, only two items in the entire game (some shield nobody uses, and Shigeto Bow) have additional effects based on job selection.

Byrnie isn't one of them.

By the way, Deci did his tests with Blade:Jin which has 30% STR and 30% DEX secondary modifiers and hits three times.

A Samurai is going to be using one-hit WS that have 75% STR modifiers... probably with Sneak Attack.

Do you REALLY SERIOUSLY HONESTLY think that a Byrnie will outperform a Haubergeon for a SAM?

I thought everyone had figured out to ignore Shaunesey when he talks about gear.

He says Deci didn't do the test as a SAM, rather as a NIN so the test must be wrong. Yet Shaunesey doesn't have a job that can even wear it, but somehow has the knowledge to say Byrnie is better...what a tool.

http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/journal2.html?user=313276&mid=1099606680697846812 <- WS Damage Modifiers information

Blade:Jin STR 30%, DEX 30%

Tachi:Yukikaze STR 75%
Tachi:Gekko STR 75%
Tachi:Kasha STR 75%

Oh hell yes, I'm so fucking wrong about the modifiers. So very fucking wrong. Thanks for the heads up.

Even combined, Jin's STR and DEX modifiers are lower than the SAM skills, and STR factors into more than the DEX does.

For such a heavily STR modified, one-hit weapon skill, having more STR should - assuming the regular damage formulas do still apply to Shaunessy - be more significant for weapon skills than more attack.

Yes, you can quote the numbers for secondary modifiers, but that doesn't mean you know what they do. Slug Shot has 30% AGI as it's secondary modifier, STR is not a secondary modifier. So why do gun/xbow rangers use STR rings instead of AGI rings for ws? Because due to how that secondary modifier is figured, 1 STR has the same effect as 4 AGI, up to the STR cap.

The of the equation, everything else is multiplied by this number, so any percentage increase to this number is a percentage increase to damage:
(Weapon Damage) + (A number based on your STR - mob VIT, capped based on your weapon's damage) + (Your secondary modifiers, multiplied by approx 5/6 at 75, rounded down to the nearest whole number)

For example, Senjuinrikio nin vs Hagun sam.
Nin - 38 + (cap of 12) + (30% of STR and DEX * 0.83)
Sam - 72 + (cap of 16) + (75% of STR * 0.83)

A typical merit ninja number for this section would be around 100, a typical merit sam number would be 160. Adding 5 STR to the ninja can increase this number by 1-7, 5 STR for a sam can increase their number by 3-9. The variance is determined by how close to the STR cap you are. The ninja increase is 1-7%, the sam increase is 2-6%.

No no no no no no no. Different gear and food choices - as well as the enemy and mage use of choke - all factor in to how much of an effect adding STR gives. It's not 75% vs 30%.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

As for attack, you take the number from the above equation, multiply it by some constants, then multiply that number by (your attack/mob def, which caps at 2.4) Increasing your attack by a percent increases your damage by the same percentage, up to the cap.

A sushi eater without a brd could have 350 attack without berserk, and a meat eater with double minuet and berserk could have almost twice that. +10 attack would be a maximum overall 3% increase in the first case, while only a 1.5% increase to someone with twice their attack, or even less if it takes them over the cap, and whether or not Dia II is being used can become a factor as well.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Blade jin is four hit, not three (I assume you were referring to jin with that attack is factored thrice comment, since it is described as a 3-hit ws) when you dual wield. If you're just swinging one katana you only get 3 hits, but that offhand weapon gets a bonus hit in when you dual wield, and what ninja doesn't? The hits of blade jin are either miss, normal, or critical. The great katana ws's you mentioned are one hitters. This makes accuracy on ws's a whole lot more important for a ninja, and infinitely more important when compared with a sam/thf. This goes to different complementary gear for the STR and attack calculations.

You're welcome. Please understand the variables for the formula and stop talking in absolute, especially when comparing ws's that act completely differently from each other. It's easy to look at a big complicated formula and pick out some numbers that you understand, but you're taking them completely out of context.

And the pedants win once again.

Did you even notice the +Critical hits on the Pahluwan body? Forget the subtle blow. You're basically calling critical hits gimped...

lol...

Byrnie < Haubergeon < Haubergeon+1 < Byrnie+1

http://decidence.co.nr/ Deci has tested all four, check his WS Examples section.

I hope you aren't suggesting thats the order of best WS sets for samurai. Or even for ninja. Blade Jin is so different from yuki/kasha/gekko, I can't even believe you would speak about the two in the same sentence.

SAM and NIN may be able to equip similar gear, but the styles in which they are used are extremely different. Quoting parse results from a ninja and just throwing them in like they are good for samurai is extremely ignorant and misguided.

Looking at the stats on the gear, I don't see why they would change significantly.
