I used Moogle Tools to tweak my graphics it did a great job but after I used it it caused FFXI to log me right to POL and gave me a error message with (-1) next to it....I think I may of put my graphics up too high and damaged my card, either that or I had a virus on my computer and I used avast to remove it, Maybe Avast deleted an important file? I re-installed ffxi but I am still having the same problem.. Does it seem like it could be my Video Card? I'm pissed this really sucks..

You aren't going to damage your hardware with your software. There are built in fail safes to prevent that. That error message is usually given when you try to alt tab or it couldn't get full screen mode.

The Reason I believe this is when it booted me the first time when I set the graphics high it disconnected me then I lowered the resolution and I stayed connected a bit longer and I lowered it again and I stayed connected even longer, What sucks is I lowered it to the lowest possible settings and I still get booted

On a side note, where do you get moogle tools? I had the link the other day but I lost it. Google search yielded nothing;;

You put in an invalid setting. I know if you put in an invalid setting in threw directly editing the registry, Pol will just exit without starting ffxi like if you went alt-tab

I don't know if it's a video card issue or Maybe a couple important files in Windows were deleted when I ran a virus scanner to remove the virus I had on my computer, I think I may try to Format and re-install windows but the computer had Windows XP when I purchased it...I don't have the original discs so I guess I'm going to have to purchase on, Should I get Windows XP home edition or Professional? What would run FFxi best? or is there no diffrence..

I really have trouble understanding why everyone automatically assumes that, whatever has gone wrong, reinstalling Windows is the solution. Either that or a virus. Damn those things, not designed to attack FFXI at all. Chances are you corrupted something in the game files or the registry, you should always take backups before delving in there. Try running a check on your files through PlayOnline, or else re-install FFXI.

On a side note, if you have windows on your PC with a legal copy, you do not need to purchase a new copy. You could legally download a torrent or otherwise file with the windows install, burn that to a cd, and reuse the key that they installed on your pc at the manufacterer. You can find that key in your current settings somewhere, I forget offhand exactly where. You own a copy of the software so it isn't piracy at all, so long as you use your key and not one that should come with a downloaded install.

Sometimes you are far better off starting with a clean slate than trying to repair a random file error that could be buried very deep. I know that people think that's the lazy person's excuse, but I've found that if I'm spending more than 3 hours trying to fix certain problems, I might as well reformat and start anew. One of the glorious things about reformats is that you get rid of problems you don't even realize you had. Just thought I'd toss that out there.

I like to keep my computer 'reformatted' (really I ghost the windows install and key programs) every 6 months to keep the random buildup of junk files I never use deleted and I have backups of everything important anyway.

I guess it was important to mention that I did uninstall and re-install FFXI and POL, it didn't do any good....My friend thinks my video card is overheating and crashing but so I may buy a better video card for around $50 to $60 there's some older video cards out there that are much better then the one I have that I can get new for around $50 to $60, I doubt the XP I have is legal so I will have to buy XP and since XP is about $140 or so Ill go w/the vid card first since it's cheaper and I have a good feeling it's the card because when I turn the resolution down using the FFXI config it stays connected alot longer (about 20-30min) when I raise the resolution I get booted in about 3-5 min

If it's a legal copy of WinXP, it'll have a sticker on the chassis. OEM builders are required by Microsoft's OEMLA to attach the official unique MS sticker to the case of any system that comes with WinXP installed - if they dont, they = fubar'd. I used to work for an OEM builder, and the look in their eyes when I asked "what if we dont put the sticker on?" suggested I would be banished to the seventh layer of hell.

Check your case for the sticker... if you have a WinXP serial, you're legit. If not, well... 65% of home users don't own legitimate copies of WinXP.

Welp that proves it... I'm screwed lol

I dont think we can talk much further on this topic, but really... you arent. I'm sure one of your friends has 'your' WinXP cd that you could use to install your 'legitimate' copy.

I borrow my legit cd's off my friends all the time!
