How do you make your gil?

Yeah, but again, you have a higher base STR than I do, so attack is going to do more for you. I tested them over several parties, but the average damage was the same, as was the damage per fist.

"Playstyle" is the term people who can't perform as well as those with excellent gear use to justify their choices. I'm not sure how your 'playstyle' allows you to make up for lower stats, but hey, if your 'style' somehow allows you to defy the way the game is programmed and do a equal or better job than a RDM with 5-10+ more available MND/INT then hey, good for you.

By play style I meant not being retarted. What good is MND+50 if the retard doesnt know which enfebs to use/refresh/debuff/dispel/help cure? Sometimes stats wont matter at all if the person just sucks at playing.

and ALL the time stats DO matter if the person is good at playing. :wink:

How hard is it to play RDM, really? No job in this game is truly 'hard.' Busier? Sure, I'll give you that. But if you can't figure out at least the base dynamics of a job with an hour or so of forum reading, find something easier to do with your time. Maybe catch up on Garfield comics or something.

In most cases, players with exceptional gear will know how to play their jobs as well or better than players with average/below average gear, simply because their dedication extends to what they wear. "Retards" at their job don't bother with getting that gear, because they either don't care or don't know any better.

True/false? I can count on one hand the number of people with great gear that vastly underperformed at their job(this, I think, covers those who buy gil/accounts, but are fools and put it into gear instead of crafting.) I can count about as many people who have overachieved with average gear. I can also count on many, many hands the number of players with bad gear who are also awful at their job.

Case in point - my g/f's pt this evening. RDM BLM WHM NIN SAM DRK. 60-62 in Valley, and they couldn't handle Perytons because the SAM and the DRK couldn't hit them worth shit, even with Gravity sticking. Why?

- Both had AF body instead of Hauby
- Neither had dual Sniper's (DRK had Sniper's + STR+3 ring, SAM had 2x Tiger Ring)

On top of that, the DRK died at least twice (I stopped paying attention) due to stacking Souleater/LR/etc and turning the Peryton.

All in all it was pretty sad. I remember getting fairly easy Chain 4-5 at that level in Valley and aside from Feather Shield neither mob being all that difficult to hit. But, again. this is what you reap with players that are fine with being 'just good enough.'

You better not be bashing on Garfield, Cubs >.> that cat pwns. Though I always found Calvin and Hobbes better :D

anyways.. RDM is perhaps the busiest job in a good exp party. (good as in everyone is playing with an A-game and doing thing perfectly) And there are aspects of RDM one might not catch too quickly on what needs to be done during a certain situation or notice first hand how a certain piece of equipment might be more beneficial to another and that perhaps both are beneficial but in certain circumstances. You say RDM can be learned within an hour of forum browsing but not everyone that plays FFXI might necessarily have a computer with which they can use to go online (whatever reason that may be.. that can varry and isn't the point). And not always true... because I'm sure there are players out there that got freebies from someone leaving the game or bought some gil and just bought the most expensive gear and figured that would be enough and never caught upon certain patterns in an exp scenario or other things. But then again.. I guess that's why you did say "In most cases, ..." :P And now.. when I was going up from level 1 as a nice newb to the game.. I know my gear wasn't the best.. hell.. it wasn't the best for a bit. I tried to get the best I could.. RSE quest to get that good mage gear.. farming..hunting.. etc. (I wish I had crafted from the start but..eh.. what are ya gonna do at this point other than start crafting now? which I do when I can). And the thing is.. to some players they just don't care about the best of the best cause that would mean they have to go through certain processes (ones that I find fun cause I'm insane :D) like NM hunting, farming, gardening, crafting, and other things that just don't interest them and might make them feel like FFXI is more work than play. And this can be a tad selfish cause you are gonna meet those in exp groups that want the best of the best (such as Cubswoo and Vang and others that I've noticed posting.. and hey.. I'd love to have the best of the best but I'm very patient, tolerant, and rather not too caring of exp/hour as long as it is, of coarse, not as low as I could do solo XD) and when you aren't performing the way they want.. they most likely will kick you. And if you complain about this you really shouldn't.. just realize they weren't the type of party you didn't wanna party with or wouldn't quite work well with and let it be at that.. put your flag up.. and find a group you like.. I guess basically it comes down to accepting that some players would like you to be an A-Game team (usually I see them being called "elitists" :roll:) and some don't care what team... as long as it is fun. Kick and invite you who want.. don't take it too seriously.. this is a game after all.

Sorta off topic.. and not even a flame *hides*.. more of a curiousity.

While playing a damage dealing role in a party I change my filters around to actually see the dmg I am doing in comparison to others in the party. If I'm not on par with the other dd or above par I look to fix it. I had the oppertunity to play with a blm while playing my blm. She was out damaging me on almost every mob. Usually by notable amounts. The fact that we were both out damaging every other member of this party wasn't the issue to me. I couldn't help but to be curious as to 'why?' So I examine her and count up her int and then examine myself. I had more + int than she did. So I send her a tell since she was another race than me. I asked her what her base int was and it was something along the same. We were both the same level, we both had our skill maxed, neither of us were eating food, but I had more +int and even had a HQ wand and still was being out damaged. Anyone have a blm pro-tip to tell me why?

pimp BLM, what does it mean?

Pere, I actually have seen Firestreak at work and he does significantly more damage than the average BLM, by 10 percent or so. A BLM in a heavy DD PT never does the most damage (parsed damage in PT from a few lvl75 PTs). They do about 20% of total damage whereas a RNG MNK or THF does 30%-ish. So having Fire instead of an average BLM means you're killing 20%x10%=2% faster, which means you gain 1 minute 12 seconds every hour.

That's what 20 million gil BLM gear buys you in exp, 1.1 minute an hour !

End-game (gods/HNM), it's a bit different, all I can think off is, it makes you die faster lol, at least Fire dies a lot to my standards.

Now if I was BLM75 and had the gil, would I pimp it to be the baddest mother fucker BLM on Vanadiel? Sure would lol ;o) But it's all for the show, let's be clear.

And it doesn't matter if you are good at your job if you can't stick an enfeeble to save your life (or the tanks life should i say). Because if your gear stops you from doing you job...then guess what? your not good at it.

Technique is only half the battle.

What lvl were you? Did this blm have more magic atk bonus equipment? i.e. Moldavite earring

Did this blm have more elemental skill+gear?

The elemental skill + gear would give that blm less resistance then you from the mob.

@Sandria

...If you were 51+, the elemental staves boost their matching element's damage by I believe 10% if the staff is NQ, and 15% if HQ. That may be why...if you were under 51, I'd say probably just resists ^^;

Nah, this was an unorthadox lvl 35ish party, but we were the same job level/maxed skill level/same nuke spell. Caused me to question the theory behind having +int in acess since she had less than I did and yet still managed to deal out more damage than me. Mayhaps the mob had simply built up resistance to said spell?

Were you casting 2nd?

The reason i generally try not to get 2 BLM in one party (bar manaburn) is because if they cast the same spell or element (not sure which) then the 2nd cast generally seems to be lower in my experience.

This is probably the reason...try alternating different spells or something.

and right away everyone assumes my enfebs dont stick. they do. 90% of the time they do. I DO** have MND+ gear, I dont know where all this that I dont came from. I have MND+ring and food and MND+ wand and cape MND+ and belt MND+ and other gear MND+. the reason i said my gear sucks is because I still have not had all my AFs yet. I know I should by now but I just dont have time.
And PLEASE dont start the whole: "but you ahve ime to PT/goof around/blah blah argument." No I dont. My FFXI time has gone down like 90% in the past few weeks. I DONT have enough time to do anything worlthwhile anymore. I have so much shit in my life right now that the last thing I want to do is log in to more bullshit. I know that to alot of you this game is more than a game, a second job even. but not to me. I log in for the simple fact that I want to escape all my shit IRL, I want to escape to a fun world where all my problems dont exist. I dont want to log in for 6 hours and farm or craft. Thats not fun and fun is the only reason I play now. I used to log in cause I felt I had to, like im sure many of you feel you do. Not anymore. I come to realize that this game is temporary, but my RL is not. I log in now to have FUN, nothing else. Sure I want to have god gear/millions of gil and all that shit, but its not worth all the BS that comes with it. I know alot of you like to "work hard" for you stuff. Good for you, honestly. Its cool that people like Cubswoo dont have a fucked up RL and have ample time to worry about FFXI. I envvy those people. The ones that can log on for 9 hours straight 7 days a week. I cant. and im sorry Cubs if I somehow pissed you off by not caring much about my fake gear, but im just not going to "work" for this game when I have much bigger shit to take care off.
