ok im on the 360 and we have both a blockbuster (has crap for selection) and hastings (better selection but i always end up w/ latefees) so i was wondering how you guys/gals rent your stuff? via gamerfly? just buy? or what? and if you use gamerfly is it really worth it to have a 21.95+ tax fee every month for two games?

If it isn't good enough to buy I usually never play them. I do end up with some duds sometimes doing it that way. I enjoyed playing through Enchanted Arms once but that would have defenitly been in the rent catagory, if I rented games that is.

i download my games from a private community, burn em and play em. If they are good, i go buy them. if they are not, i get all the achievements i can and never play it again.

ya, i played EA and thought it was ok, just ok. played it for almost 2 months then i think Godfather came out and just stopped playing it.

Its rare I ever rent games anymore. When I do, I usually rent games if im sceptical on whether or not I should blow away $50 on a game that might not be great. If its really good then I'll buy it, if not then all I wasted was about 6-8 bucks depending on where I rented from. I rent from either blockbuster or movie gallery. I have a movie gallery about 5 miles from the house so I tend to go there more and use blockbuster as a backup if they're rented out of whatever I'm looking for.

I hate saving money, so I always buy everything.

The worst part, is I'm the 'judge a book by its cover' guy, who buys a lot of games based off of sweet box art. I would buy a Barbie game if the boxart had a mech or Barbie standing over a dead soldier.

When I was younger I worked at a Hollywood Video, and stole all of my games. Paying for things sucks now.

We used to subscribe to Gamefly....our que was like 40 games long, and it still took them forever to send us anything. BfreakingS. I tried it twice too, once when it first came out, then again a few years later (assuming that they had cleaned thier system up to better suit thier customers) but they still reaked ass.

Hollywood Video in our town seems to have FAR more selection in games than Blockbuster does, and (here anyway) they usually have a good number of the big titles in. I called 4 different Blockbuster's last week for the new GameCube Zelda...the 1st Hollywood Video I called held it for me. Now I just need to buy the damned thing...what a good game...

Also, I find cheap games to buy by putting them on my "Wish List" on www.half.com <--a subsidiary of Ebay, but everything has a set price (both for the item and shipping) and if you wishlist it at a certain price, they will send you an email flagging that they have gotten your item in for that price or lower. Pretty nice.

I don't rent games :|

thanks for all the imput, especially on gamerfly if anyone else has any other experiences w/ them let me know. seems like a good idea but when you have sooo many people trying to rent i can see how there would be a shortage.

Buy, playthrough, tap all content, trade in for the next one. I spose you could count half the origonal cost as "Rental" for the amount of time I spent tapping and playing through.

man, i haven't rented a game since N64 generation and maybe one game for gc

I have never, ever, not once in my life, rented a game. In fact, when I was younger, I didn't even realize it was POSSIBLE to rent games for three or four years after the neighbor kids were doing it regularly.

Even then, it seemed strange to me. I'm just not that sort of person ... it's not like a library, where when you return the book, it'll be there for a LONG time to be checked out again. Nuh-uh ... the game will be gone very quickly, as newer releases churn it away, and your memory of it fades ... I'm sorry, but I just can't equate playing a game I truly enjoy with watching a movie. If I'm interested enough to play, I'm going to end up buying it.

My video game experience has always been one of "legacy." Even if I hated it, I still want to own it foreverz. I want to REMEMBER, two decades hence.

As my pristine copy of Super Pitfall can attest, it works.

Work for GameStop, then you can check-out used games for free for 4 days ^^.

I don't understand the people who don't understand renting games. It's the same concept as Dvd's. You rent movies to see if you like them enough to buy, and they only cost $15-$20 per dvd to own. I cannot imagine that you BUY every $50 game that you want to try out. I have played so many games that are crap (and BOUGHT a few expensive games that I thought I would like, and DID NOT - I loved Dark Cloud #1, but #2 blew ass....that was $50 I could have spent on....well, a LOT of things. (and don't give me the "You can resell them" crap. You get MAYBE $15 (if you are lucky) for a brand new game that you just bought for $50. You could have only played the game once for 20 minutes - but the fact that it is out of the wrapper makes it depreciate by a TON.

If you all have random $ to waste, rock on. I have no problem with that... Or if you are the kind of gamer who only sticks w/ what they know they are going to like - sweet. I respect anyone's game choices, but some of us like to try all kinds of different games to see if we will like them or not. I never would have thought that I would have liked the game GLADIUS - but I got hooked upon renting it one rainy day then went and bought it once I returned it. I have started and finished the game probably 3 different times, because if I wait long enough for it to be fresh again...it ROCKS to start over. But, I tried it first. And it was a game I never would have just up and bought on a whim for $50. I don't think this makes me less of a gamer, and I don't think NEVER renting games makes you any more of a gamer.

The kid asked where he should rent, not whether or not it's a stupid idea.

Blockbuster has this new thing now where you have to use a credit card to rent Wii games and they don't let you use bank cards or cash (forgot to ask about checks). It has something to do with tracking purposes if someone decides not to return a game but I was ticked when I went to rent a Wii game and couldn't because all I had was a bank card. I can use the bank card as a credit card but they still wouldn't let me rent it unless it was an offical credit card like a vesa. I sure as heck am not gonna sign up for a credit card just to rent Wii games. Espically since I rarely rent games as it is. Blockbuster done lost some brownie points in my book. I'm assuming this is happening with all blockbusters?

I managed a Blockbuster in college....this is because TONS of kids come in and "rent" games and never return them....when there is no billing info entered on the account, and nothing to charge the lost games on...yeah - you can probably see where this is going

I am not saying that Blockbuster is run perfectly....but video games are CONSTANTLY "stolen" by kids who just don't return em.

Nothing beats the spans of months it takes for a good console game to take my fancy just to go and stare at the either missing or rented out 3 copies of it at the local blockbuster. :???:

One of these days i'm going to go postal and freak out on the manager or whoever does the ordering for the places around here.
