Seriously, how do I get my brain to stop thinking at night? I've been having terrible insomnia because of this. Ever since I left the hospital a good 3 weeks ago I just can't sleep at night. I have a fuck ton on my mind and no way to get rid of it.

I've been thinking non stop about lung transplants, my mom, my brother in jail, my brother who will be going to jail, how my health is effecting those around me, how they have to watch me get worse every day and can't do anything, how I can't even help my mother move a table without panting horribly, my asshole doctors who've tried to kill me twice now, and just so much more.

Sleeping pills aren't a option since i need to be able to wake up at night and spit up phlegm. I watch tv/movies a lot while I try to sleep but if it comes to a boring part my brain starts up again.

My health hasn't really been effected but that could be from this Gochi juice shit my mom got me. It's been said that it can help someone with CF fight off infections more easily.

Firstly pussycat... stop stressing about not been able to sleep it only makes things worse. Accept that you do have a lot on your mind and your brain wants to work through it until it's too buggered to give a damn :) . Maybe night time is when you do your best thinking especially when your supposed to be sleeping. I do wish I could wave my magic "let the kitten sleep" wand for you though.

Watch Talladega Nights a few times, rub one out, go to sleep.

I'm pretty sure I said this to someone about something completely unrelated but this method is flawless. I should know. I haven't done either of those things tonight and now it's 4 A.M. and I haven't slept a wink.

It's kinda impossible to completely shut off thinking. Your always thinking. If I have trouble sleeping (as I often do), I eat something and watch some tv. Actually, Leggo has a...good method. I'd try doing that.

I've had this problem myself recently and there really isn't any way around it. Watching movies seems to do the trick for me. Fortunately for me after a few days, it sorts itself out and I am able to sleep again. Hope things calm down for you a bit soon, mancat.

Take a long sharp object, place it at the side of the temple. Make sure the point is touching the temple. Take one hammer. Whack sharp pointy object with hammer. Whalla! Brain is shut off!

Fair warning, depending on how much force you put into the blow makes all the difference on just how quickly it shuts off. So make sure to hit with all your force!

In all seriousness though, take some sleeping pills. I use Tylenol PM. If I take two and actually lay down and shut my eyes, eventually I'm going to sleep and I'll be asleep for a fairly long time. (I usually only take 1 pill, unless I don't have to work the following day.) It works for me.

I have a drink or 2 of whisky if I start thinking to much.. Numbs the senses... also watching movies that you have seen a hundred times normally puts me to sleep..... <3 Starship Troopers and 13th Warrior

I use to suffer from that as well. My record for being up was 7 days, although I recently heard that once you get that tired people take micro naps without even realizing it so maybe it wasn't a true 7 days but as far as my recollection it was 7 straight days. I found certain activities would distract me and allow me to get to sleep. For me it was shaving hair as weird as that sounds. I would grow a beard, mustache, goatee, sideburns whatever and when insomnia hit you could find me in the dorm bathroom at 2am shaving something off. That led to me going from shoulder length hair to having a shaved head after a sever bout of insomnia.

Ultimately you need to remove your sources of stress or try to come to terms with the issues. Realizing that there are things you can't control and truly accepting that will go a long way towards more inner peace. Easier said than done, I know.

I went away for a few days. One morning I decided I just needed a few days alone, and I went to Milwaukee in the middle of the week. I stayed there for three days, went to the art museum and such. I felt much better about everything and slept better when I got home.

Good luck, insomnia sucks.

masterbating helps you relax, so do that. Additionally, practice meditation. That's the att of not thinking. Breath slowly and try to focus on relaxing every muscle in your body. Whatever you do, do not count sheep. That will get you annoyed and keep you up all night...

I always find if I try to stop thinking I just think more. I just go with the flow and eventually fall asleep ;D

I just listen to music. A few beers helps, getting plasterred helps.

It's simple do a barrel roll :D

When ever I can't sleep I find something really boring on TV and instead of trying to just go to sleep with it on I try and stay up just to pay attention to it. Book TV or a really boring house sub-commitee meeting on 1 of the c-spans works pretty good for me.

If you use the computer within an hour of going to sleep; stop. Watch TV or something -- using the computer really taxes your brain.

why are people recommending booze and pills? Myrrh said that pills are not an option, that he is on medication for his CF so booze is probably not an option either.
i can't imagine being in your situation as far as being ill Myrrh,i bet it can be stressful.when i cant sleep i watch tv even try to make something hot to eat.when that doesn't work, i know eventually my body will crash and get the rest it needs give it time. hope things get better fo you buddy.

I zonk out quickly and sleep pretty hard when I've had sex right before bed. A couple of people have recommended masturbation, and I really think that is a good solution.

You have to make sure you are physically ready to sleep in addition to mentally. Sometimes, when you've done a good amount of physical activity, it doesn't matter how wired your brain is, you just crash. I don't know how much you are physically capable of doing with your CF and all, but do what you can during the day.

Also, do -NOT- sleep in, get up early even if your ass is draging and try to stay away from naps during the day.

Are you currently on any medication that may be causing this? If so, maybe you should speak with a doctor to see if they can change your perscription.

LOL True story ; ; Sorry, Myrrh, no humping for you.

Another recommendation I have is to get all the shit you're worried about off your chest. Talk with people about it, preferrably the people it involves (unless you think talking to the people involved would somehow make it worse). Bottling things up makes you dwell on them. You may not be able to change these things, but often getting your thoughts out will help anyway. You've got plenty of people right here who would be more than happy to lend an ear and/or shoulder.
