My question is, how is my base attack calculated?

Information I know:
Trickybeck
STR - Raises your overall damage curve
- +2 STR also gives +1 Attack and +1 Ranged Attack

I know thats not much, but I can't find much.

Combat Skills are also involved. Im probably wrong, but I think for every 1 skill you have in a weapon, you get +1 attack and +1 acc. Do not quote me on that though, lol, because I am most likely wrong, but combat skills DO have a part.

I'm pretty sure its like that, but only up until level 200, then it turns to .9.

(STR/2) + Weapon Level != Attack...
It comes close
STR is 31 and Weapon level is 90
My attack i 113
(31/2) + 90 = 105.5 not my 113 it says.

You have some attack by default.

For example, BST/NIN, 0 staff skill. I have 43 attack with an All Job staff equipped(Trick II) and nothing else equipped. 35 of it from Strength(70.) That leaves me with 8 default attack.

Similiar to how with 0 hand to hand skill and no weapon, you can still do damage. Because Hand to Hand has an automatic 3 Damage by default.

So does that small default attack add up over levels, because thats the only apparent idea I can think of... like its now at 7.5 default.

How do you calculate hand to hand damage if you have no Hand to Hand skill?

As Blm/whm, I can atack with my hands, but I only get 1 swing and I have never hit anything so I am unsure if I actually can hit anything. I whiffed on a Dhamel in Tahrongi for about 10 minutes one time without a weapon.

Base Attack = 8 + [STR / 2] + combat skill in current mainhand weapon

[Brackets] mean "round down to nearest integer", aka mathematical floor. Of course, there are other modifiers as well (+attack on gear, buffs like Berserk or Minuet, food especially meat ...).

Well, hand to hand damage is (Skill/10)+3+Weapon Damage, rounded down.

Can prove 0 skill(or nonexistant skill) is 3 damage by hitting things with no skill or weapon equipped, then equipping something thats 3 damage, like a dagger, and comparing what you get.

Like Vilurum said, you round down what you get from dividing your strength by 2. You're getting the 8 attack, but you're thinking the .5 from Strength is contributing something.

Check and check, thanks guys :3

strange i can swear my atk doesnt change when i drop my warwolf belt (STR+5).
And yes +1 weapon skill add 1 atk and accuracy. people say 0.9 accurcay i dont know how they figured this out but just say its about +1 accurcay. My daggers merit gave me +16 skills and my atk raised by 16. Thats why sea gorgets are the best
over chivalrous chain and breeze/soil/etc gorgets !

math makes me have seizures...

...does...not..compute....

Thats not right. The Sea Torques with +7 combat skill are not better than Elemental Gorgets for Weapon Skills. This has been tested to death, and every time nothing beats a Gorget for dmg or accuracy.

Only Accuracy drops to 0.9. Attack remains 1.

Does anyone know what happens when you break the 300 barrier regarding acc and attk for 1 skill level? Some sam's have parsed the justice torque for TP build and it trumped a Peacock Charm, +10 acc. With full great katana merits, a bushinomimi your skill is 297, add in Justice Torque and you are at 304. I am led to believe the equation changes beyond 300 skill. Peacock Charm +10 acc should be > 7 skill X .9 = 6.3 acc from Justice Torque.

Did they parse damage output or pure accuracy? With such high accuracy numbers, there probably wouldn't have been a significant accuracy difference between 7 skill and 10 accuracy. Especially if eating sushi.

Whereas the 7 skill = 7 attack would've raised their damage per hit while the 10 accuracy would not have.

If it was a test of pure accuracy, then I'd be more intrigued. But then again, I'd also want a good statistical test (same food/gear/buffs aside from the one change, same mobs including mob job type, and a *lot* of them) to indicate it wasn't just a fluke.

Also, since approaching soft (or hard) caps tends to skew results, non-sushi tests (and fighting reasonably strong things that would evade enough to say so) would be more indicative of the particular *gear's* effect.

In short, provide more details.

I'm sure the test was not done using sushi, if anything the tests would have been meat driven. SAM's with full merits and a bushi rarely use sushi. I'll have to dig around the web to get more info. Damagewise, you are right, the torque would provide, from what we know, 2.5 attk from str,+ 7 attk from the skill = 9.5 attk, 6.3 acc total assuming the equation does not change beyond 300 skill.
