kinda new to pld scene i am level 14 pld/war

and i was wondering what type of hate pattern should i create or go by???

What I've tried doing that works well for me is Provoke > Shield bash > (spells) Cure. THat gives you hate off the bat. Every 30 seconds from there on, provoke on the dot. It insures that you hold hate well even to the point that you actually the first one to fall in the pt instead of it being a whm. lol Well, if you have a pt, then you don't have to worry about dieing. But other than that, till you get to higher lvls, there isn't much to do. Also, if another person gets hate, just heal them to get the hate back (of course you'd probably know this anyways).

trial and error.

everyone has their own specific way to hold hate and what kind of gear to wear.

and since you're only lv.14, you dont have access to all the job abilities just of yet.

at your current position, just provoke as much as possible and cure yourself when necessary.

I was a paladin, i say was as i retired it at 64.. but i got many compilments on my tanking ability. As mithra i had a decend amount of MP and this was my routine:

1) Provoke + Flash off the bat (unless doing SATA then wait for that)..

2) As soon as i lose the HP, Cure 3 myself.

3) By this time Provoke is up, so Provoke again.

4) Wait for Flash (should be 15 seconds) ..use it then Cure 3 at the same time while the mob is blind.

5) Provoke when ready then space out either Rampart, Defender (i always removed this, just used for hate), Holy Circle and Shield Bash

If i needed the extra hate i would space out two of the 4 JA's in step 5.. usually one per mob was enough. I also cured again where needed keeping an eye on MP.

Good luck with Paladin.. :P

[Edit] - I'd just like to note, at 14 you have feck all for holding hate.. so just do your best with what you've got. At 37 when paladin get Flash, things start to get alot easier. The above is my routine as 64 PLD. Ohh.. also, every 2nd/3rd mob i would do a full HP/300% TP Spirits Within ^^ (usually nearer the end to kill the mob, then rest with dark staff for mp)

Another suggestion is to use <stpc> in your Cure macros instead of <me>. So, use /ma "Cure" <stpc>. That lets you pick the target of your Cure. The arrow is on you by default, so just hit enter after using the macro. If you want to cure someone else (good idea if someone else pulled hate off you), hit the macro, use the F key for that player, and hit Enter.

Also, I blieve that the more HP you heal with a Cure, the more hate you get. So casting cure 2 on someone missing only 50 HP isn't as effective as if that person is missing 100. Make sure you tell that to your WHM if they insist on keeping you at full health.

Errr.. actually a good paladin would save his MP for himself. why?

Well, the WHM has much more mp and can heal the puller for you.. but that's not te main reason. PLD don't have huge amounts of MP, especially elvaan and galka and when you heal someone else you only get 50% of the hate you get when healing yourself. Hence a waste of MP when the WHM can do it for you.

You have more than enough hate tools to keep hate until you can get a few hits and heal yourself. So yeah, common misconception.. it's a pain in the ass when people complain the PLD doesn't heal them.

So if you see the PLD only healing himself he isn't being selfish, he's doing good for the party. :P (obviously if things get icky, anyone that can, should heal)

If the puller is a thief and you are trying to setup a SATA WS, curing them will screw up the WS.

what this comes down to is trial and error or trying a bunch of suggestions to see which works best. for my suggestion, i always do it in this order.....

1. voke>>>flash right away
2. all job abilties one after another to get the most hate right off the bat.
3 by the time you are done going through the job abilities, voke is usually ready again
4. voke
5. cure
6. flash
7 WS whenever it becomes available
8. cures whenever is needed

*this works best for me. it may be something to try, you may not like doing it
this way. who knows. with this method, i have made a bet with a blm that used manafont and all ancient spells that he had and i kept hate. the other was a mnk that had whatever gear at 65(i think) that adds extra enm and he used dragon kick to get the light MB, he was quite amazed that i kept hate from it

p.s do not use the extra pld magic such as holy circle, banish, etc. its a large waste of mp that you could use for flash, heal and less downtime

Holy Circle is a job ability and does not use MP (i asume you mean the spell holy ^^)... i use holy circle as every action you take draws hate wether it be a little or alot :P

Hm, interesting, never heard of that before. And usually people tell mages to heal themselves if they pull hate...

Actually, one thing that seems like it'd make a bit more sense is that if you heal whoever has the most hate, you get more hate than healing someone else.

Also, it's a bad idea to use all your JAs as soon as they're ready. Shield Bash should be saved for mobs with powerful abilities that can be stopped with stun (such as goblin bombs). If you're not gonna fight those mobs, though, use it for the hate spike. Also, you should space out the abilities - most abilities have a 5 minute cooldown timer, I think, so if you only take about 2 and a half minutes to kill a mob and rest up, you're not gonna be able to do anything vs the next mob.

Anyone who tells a mage to heal himself is just trying to get that mage killed, IMO. :P As a mage, if I ever get hate in normal circumstances, I don't do jack until the tank or backup voke has the mob fixed back on them. Normal circumstances of course exclude add situations, in which case I'll tank an add that resists sleep with Stoneskin/Blink til the first mob is dead. ;)

But yeah, at early levels PLD doesn't have much in their hate arsenal yet. Just use what you have, as often as you can, because just about everything you do will gain some hate at least. Also look into getting RSE gloves and boots at 27/29, those will help immensely, and probably last you all the way to AF level.

shield bash from what ive tested, doesnt stop gobbie bomb.
the advantage of using all JA at the start is that you have gotten yourself a bit of a hate pool for the mob to dwindle down before it goes off to somthign else. ithe amt of hate rarely goes to 0 because you keep building on it with magic, voke, and ja as they become available. if you space out JA, it makes it that much easier for a MB to pull the mob off of u

No Way, the Eisenschuhs/Kampfschuhs gear is designed for PLD's. It like AF0 for PLDs. I'm Lvl 47, and I still have the Kampfschuhs Hands and Feet gear for the Vit bonus...

I mean the Elvaan RSE, I seem to recall Micah mentioning he played Elvaan somewhere. The extra MP from Elvaan (and also galka) RSE is a big help in ensuring you have the MP to keep hate through a chain. Races that don't have MP issues, like your hume, would be beter with the Eisen stuff certainly. ;)

It depends on your race.. the mithra RSE hands are the best gloves you can use until AF. :P

Also, as i stated before.. curing someone else only gives 50% the hate it would than if you cured yourself. This is a known fact.. Also, i personally think using all JA's at the start is a bad idea. Hate dissipates, you want to spread them out. From my 64 levels of tanking i have never had a hate issue with my technique. If i did i always had atleast one JA available to pull back hate until voke/flash etc was ready.

Using all JA's at the start also leaves a 3-3.5min window of absolutely no JA's (as i assume your chaining, so you'd have nothing for the next mob) ..and from my experiences, i've been in parties where Freeze was bursted every fight with a taru blm. So your gonna want 1 or 2 free. ^^
