... committed suicide today. I'm bummed.

A shotgun blast to the head at 67 years of age. You'd think that at that point he'd just hang in there...

That does indeed suck. I can't say I'm really surprised since he seemed so prone to going off the deep end, but wow...I really don't know what to say. I love the man's work.

Hunter S. Thompson was also one of the funniest TV interviews I've ever seen when he was a guest on Late Night with Conan O'Brian. He absolutely hated flying and I don't think he cared for New York, so he'd only do it if Conan came to him at a location near his home. The location - a gun range.

Hunter S. Thompson and firearms - not a great match.

So they did the interview while shooting at targets with various types of guns including, at one point, Hunter going nuts with an M-60.

Hunter S. Thompson and a machine gun that can probably slice a human being in half - not a great match. But it was amusing. Especially those occasional screaming fits that happened for no reason.

I share your sentiments, Wonko. I too shall be getting twisted because of this. A tragedy.

Im totally bummed..........

That man was my favorite author, his gift for whacked out descriptives was second to none.

From Fear and Loathing to Curse of Lono, his words made me laugh at loud, yet really think of the world through his eyes.
He truly lead a unique life, and Ill miss him.

R.I.P. Roaul Duke, you truly were one of Gods own protoypes (to borrow your words) To crazy for mass production, yet too unique to be put down.

"They looked at me, but said nothing. By this time I was laughing crazily. But it made no difference. I was just another fucked-up cleric with a bad heart. Shit, they'll love me down at the Brown Palace. I took another big hit off the amyl, and by the time I got to the bar my heart was full of joy. I felt like a monster reincarnation of Horatio Alger...a Man on the Move, and just sick enough to be totally confident."
