I told myself never to make a thread here... but.. this really seems to be the most logical place to put my question. I understand inflation. And a lot of it makes a good bit of sense in respects to farming and more gil in circulation. Also the holiday leaves more room for more people to be playing..

What I don't understand is this sudden holiday madness. Items going from not 1k more, not 10k more, not 100k more.. but millions more....

....over night?

Litterally... Over night.

I'm a crafter. Almost 100 in one.. almost 60 in another. Even so much as farm the majority of the ingrediants I need myself. And ya know..

I can't even keep up anymore. I can afford to keep crafting. But, for why?

I am guessing people are buying items and reselling them.

Should I buy a Neptune Staff at 6mil even though it was selling for 3mil a few days ago? No, it just doesn't seem logical to me. I don't see how it seems logical to any of you either. I know for a fact that there are tons of you who complain about a stack of sleeping potions going for 40k a stack. You realize how many consumables I have to make in order to buy a single item?

...well ya know what, I'm tired of it. Most of you should be tired of it too.

I don't feel like doing a song and dance for items I need/want. Nor do I think I should have to. But, in all honesty, that seems to be the only way to achieve anything in this game.. so with that in mind.. it's possibly time to get my character evaluated for what it's worth and cash out on this game. 'Cus you gotta be fucking kidding me if I'm paying 6-10mil to save 1mp per second when you can't even sell a yagado drink for more than 2k a bottle.

There's only one reason.....

FFXI_xmas_468x60.gif

Kids buy gil (or their rich parents do), they see something they want in the AH, and they spend all of their bought gil on it. Saavy businesspersons notice this and jack the prices way up then the buyers spend their gil.

I sympathize Sand. Idk why inflation has gone up SO much in the past month. Then again, with so many people buying gil, they don't really care what they spend. I think I heard the going rate for 1 million gil is $9.95? I have no idea. Spending $10 more on an item you really want isn't much to some people I guess. It is ruining our economy and is pretty much making me want to go back to my home server (Alexander).

That is only one reason, and also one've the biggest cop outs. Unless of course most've your crafters are selling gil themselves. Which is likely just as possible since I'm reaching the point of considering selling my account.

The game is quickly losing it's substance when it revolves around....

Song and dance to make gil.. to spend gil.. to rince and repeat.

I guess I'm just losing my interest to compete.

If you think this is a Quetzalcoatl-only thing, try peeking at some of the other server boards.

It's getting a lot crazier, that's for sure. I had worked out how much fishing I'd have to do in order to afford a Noble's Tunic, but that's pretty much thrown out the window because the cost will have doubled (or tripled...or quadrupled) by the time I get the gil. It's looking more and more like my only hope for one will be to join an HNM/Gods LS and have one crafted from drops.

Think you might've pin-pointed one of the other reason right there. ~.^

Cubs is right.

Did I say it was a Quetzalcoatl thing? Nope. It's a "wondering why I moved servers" thing.

Ooooh... misunderstood ya. Actually, quezzy was pretty decent for a while in comparison to other servers. But, lets fight a lil' mire.. I realized my flame doesn't really have enough rage and hositilty in it to warrent the flame board.

I think I only cursed once.. I fail at flames. ~.~

Y'know... Why is it everyone puts up a flame on here about the prices and then they get yelled at and told to shut up and to go farm (or buy gil), then Sandria comes on here and everyone's sympathising? Whatever. See, I told you guys. It's not just some items I've seen going up in price. Sandria's right, I'm just wondering why stick to her side when everyone else has been flaming this for the last week? lol

I think SE may step in evenually. They did awhile back when sniper rings got crazy and raised the AH tax. Even rumored they added some sniper rings too the AH at reduced prices. I think they may have changed the way you aquired them since then but the point is that SE did step in at one time. If this is happening on all servers then I am sure they know about it. I could be wrong but you might want too take a break from this game for awhile instead of selling your character.

Also Yag drinks are 3 k now and I even got lucky a few times and people bought them from me at 4 K.

I haven't been saving up for anything so I haven't noticed the price hike in stuff.

I think the game would be more fun if more items were questable instead of having to kill NM's all the time. Yeah, it'd kinda be weird at first. But what about all the jobs that CANT claim NM's? That basically leaves out every job except a THF/RNG unless another job gets hella lucky.
I'm not saying every rare, kickass weapon and armor should be questable: I'm saying more should be because it's a pain in the ass to never get stuff and no matter what HAVE to pay for it unless you're a THF/RNG or THF/NIN.

For once I agree with you. In ways SE "has" done that to a degree.

Only problem with that in this game is.. generally said quests i.e. enms, bcnms, etc require some form of team collaboration. And that's all fine and good to some extent.. I mean, after all, that is how the story line of the FF series is founded on.. but this game has become nothing more than a crab simulation to me.. you kill one crab, you kill them all. You get a little stronger.. the mob gets a little stronger. I'd have just as much fun doing level 20 cap garrison as I would doing a kirin. Gear is hardly an issue in those. Noone cares if you have Lizzy gear NQ or lizzy gear +1. It's basically all the same mechanics without the song and dance. The problem is... if someone doesn't find it profitable.. they're not interested. I'm half tempted to set one up, because back in the days people found it to be very enjoyable. But, to each their own I suppose.

As far as your concerns of people showing sympothy... I think that is greatly due to the fact that most know just how seriously fed up I am. I think they're just as fed up also with possibly reasons of their own. You just cannot logically explain to me why a pluto staff raises a mil each sell especially when I paid a fraction of the price only two weeks ago. You could blame that on a couple of bad crops and I'd take you seriously. You'd blame it on a few bad synths and I'd think you might be on to something. Even still that should in no way justify these figures doubling especially when crafters have competion of their own.

That's definately true. I like what they've done to date. I just wish they'd stop adding new NM's and add a few quests. And by which I mean, quests that you don't need 18 people or more to do. All the idea of NM's do is make it so that slightly above-average items become WAY more than they're worth. Especially when everyone you know either somehow turned shitty or quit the game, like in my case.
(By the way, when I say "somehow turned shitty", I don't mean I power leveled them to that extent. Like I said, I never power level THAT much.)

there is definately something going on. last nite i was checking spiderweb prices, and the entire history was filled buy one guy, not sure his name, but was a lvl 75 bst selling to one person. now unless they are standing next to each other, how would the bst know to put more up on the ah? IMO i honestly believe its gilsellers trying to jack up the prices by doing this kind of thing.

To answer your spider web question...
Spider webs (at market price) often sell within a few seconds of being posted in AH. So likely one cc'er was spamming AH and buying them as fast as that bst could put them up. I've been lucky enough to buy ~30 webs in 3 minutes when two farmers happened to be putting them up at the same time. It's about as reliable as if there was an NPC buying them at market price.
