I've played maybe a grand total of 6 hours in this last week, as I've been taking a break from this game and focusing on more important things in real life. I haven't even partied but like 5 times in the past 3 weeks, as I've been farming to save up for equipment or just for the hell of it as when I'd get on I wouldn't have enough time to party. Now, I finally have some time, and I want to party to level up my NIN sub or THF main. I've spent about 4 hours total with LFG up the past day and watched dozens of people get taken before me all the time... life is very shitty as a Tarutaru NIN or THF, both melee professions where my low HP shouldn't come into play as much. I don't know what it is... maybe I have an awful reputation outside of my LS, or maybe people just have no respect for Taru melee, no matter WHAT the job. I get lots of examines, yet none of those appreciative tells saying "nice equipment", or even anything to make me at least smile. Here's my gear for my NIN:

Emperor's Hairpin
Chainmail Body
Beetle Subligar +1
Beetle Gloves +1
Nomad's Mantle
Mokuto +1
(Some small katana, level 19)
Leaping Boots
Mythril Earring x2
Balance Ring x2
Warrior's Belt
Spike Necklace

THF equip (47):

Emp. Hairpin
Marauder's Knife
Bone Knife +1
Nomad's Mantle
Garrison Hose
Leaping Boots
Spike Necklace
Long Boomerrang
Drone Earring
Genin Earring
Brigandine
Wonder Mitts
Merc. Cptn's Belt
Balance Ring x2

That said, my equipment is pretty much top of the line, with a few exceptions, so that really can't be the reason why I'm not getting invites. Normally this wouldn't bother me, but I've seen DRG (supposedly the least wanted class next to summoner by the gaming public, I don't believe this personally but what can you do about what people thing) in my LS gain 15 levels in a 2 week period, getting constant invites without even forming their own parties and recently hitting level 50 and passing me up... Samurai's too... Can my small ammount of invites be attributed to my race (Tarutaru, NON mage), or is it probably my ingame repuatation (which I'm unaware of at the moment)?

I'd like to think I've helped an assload of people and have been helpful and nice at every turn... leaving what I'm doing to help out LS and non LS members alike, and it just feels like I don't get credit for shit. I'm really getting fed up with this game and seriously feel like quitting, because if I'm not getting invites because I'm a Taru I should quit because there's nothing I can do about that to sway people's opinion, and if it's because of my reputation then I should quit still because there's nothing I can do about what other people think. Yeah, I know, I'm bitching and moaning, but I really can't think of any other reason other than those two. So I guess this post is a self-flame...? Or a flame for the player community. You figure it out...

Rune I wouldn't give up over something like this. You seem like a good guy and sound like you know the ins and outs of your class. You may not be the ideal race for a melee class but I've seen Galka's in WHM AF armor and they obviously did fine. Maybe you should start looking for a static group - from what I understand a lot of people at your level tend to do that. Anyhoo the LFG delema is something almost every class is going to hit (I know I am, being a smn and all) but you just accept it and move on. It's a great opportunity to make cash and get other things done. I'd invite you if I was high level!

No worries guy! :P

oh rune :(

well, i cant be your rep. as far as know you are considered quite cool !
try not to fret the lack of invites too much, it happens to all of us at some point. with my new main (SAM) i spent lvl 30-33 almost entirely uninvited.
It seems that certain lvling areas peeps tend to stick with a pt for longer
due to the lack of invites.
I spent that time farming and NM hunting. eventually the invites will come back. i just attest it to bad luck :(

stick with it buddy :)

Bah, I go through the same thing sometimes. I only play for about 5 hours per week, and only pt for about 2 or them. I can spend 1 hr somtimes lfg. I usually end up farming or crafting some nights (I like to have good eqip too!) As far as I can tell, I have a good rep- as I often get compliments on my pulling and SA timing. But, nevertheless, I seem to have the same problem.

Tell you what. We're both lvl 22, you're NIN, I'm THF. Let's start our own pt! You get to tank, I'll pull!

Sound good?

Rune, stick it out buddy.
My situation is that I only have one person that is fairly static. He's a RL friend, so that helps. However, we both only level when we both have time. So we aren't making leaps and bounds forward. That said, I see other people fly by me in levels.

It's not a race though. Some people do seem to think it is.
Some people have said to me, wow I am the same level as you and higher rank. Or wow we were the same level 10 levels ago, now you have only gained a few levels while I gained 10?
What is the point of such comments? I haven't figured it out. Some people like to stroke themselves by putting others down in a roundabout way. Of course their comments are not that big a deal. I usually just LOL it off and keep it light. If they persist and really start enjoying rubbing it in, then I quickly shit down their sliced throats, and tell them not to forget to fuck themselves on their way out. Worse come to worse, there is always the /blist. Haven't had to use it yet.

Sorry about the tangent. Anyway, my point is, who cares what other people are doing? This game will always have something to do. There's nothing wrong with trying a different job now either. Maybe one that gets you into more parties...It seems that leveling is important to you, so maybe a job that gets constant invites is the way to go.

I know I don't want to see ya go. You are definitely one of the good eggs in this game, Rune. I was happy to party with ya last weekend, and I hope we can do it again sometime.

Rune, I feel for ya. We all have days where u feel like, what the hell. Why bother. Hehe, but then something cool in the game happens that pick me right back up. Like getting into a great PT. Finally making headway on the job you have. But here's wat I do to liven things up. Trying having some tasty beverages while you play. It makes, even the more mundane things like crafting, very amusing. But remember this rule: The more beverages, the less u get done in the game. Hehe. I think it's worth sticking it out. Even though my cable modem provider just loves d/c me every night when I try to lvl.

Rune, please don't give up over this. I mean, you must have done something special or great to get as high as you are. I know how you feel. Sometimes I'm running around in Jeuno looking like I'm doing something when all I'm doing is running back and forth from the zone to the Mog House checking the AH along the way, for sometimes 6+ hours LFG. I know it seems it makes you want to quit your class(and sometimes the game), but ANY race can be good at ANY job. I've been in parties where a Galka was the WHM, sure he didn't have as much MP as a Taru, but he kept us alive, and kept us alive well. And I also partied with a Taru PLD, sure not much HP or higher strength as some others, but he still kept the hate, and didn't come close to dieing. Have faith buddy. ^^

That's the thing... I see others with my job and level get taken before I do constantly. Which leads me to believe I've done something awful before to get me blacklisted by some linkshells, or that when it comes down to it a taru melee with get picked last, people would probably even rather have a Galkan THF over me if it were a blink pick. It's the common misconception that Taru are "crap" melee that stops me from getting in parties, I'm sure. PLD can tank, they have MP, and people have seen that Taru PLD is effective. I wish there was no stupid fucking strategy guide ever printed to this game telling you what is "bad" and what is "good" for each race. Hell, I had someone yesterday tell me we should chain Banshees at level 23 just because they're about the same level as the other stuff. I've done plenty of farming and crap... that's all I've done the past 3 weeks. NM hunting, farming, fishing, you name it. Now that I am finally in the mood to EXP, I can't get any parties for the life of me. Wouldn't bother me so much if I didn't see people on the seek list that have the same job as me being taken ahead of me, in some cases, in multiples. Seems like I always happen to be last chosen, so maybe I should reroll as a hume.

Send me a /tell tonight or tomorrow. I know a few good WHM's and BLM's, in our lvl range.

I can at least help get your NIN leveled. :)

Don't quit, totally not worth it to restart!

I am in total agreement over the fact that race matters not, there is equipment to cover any races shortcomings in certain areas (thank you Akamu for teaching me this early on in the game).

And dont worry about your abilities, ive pt'd with you before and u rocked.

Tell you this.....if im ever forming a pt and i see you looking you are in!!!!!

/thinks back amusingly.......naked races to jueno.........roflmfao O.<

I second that. Taru Blink Tanks rock. I'll send you a /tell and see if we have jobs that are close in levels. I think the whole race thing is silly, but some people are out there for the sheer number crunching. But I believe it's the person playing the role that counts the most not the race.

Ok Rune just a piece of advice, DO NOT try looking late at night during JP peak hours. I even changed my languages to EJ just so i wouldnt get passed over. It really irks me that they wont even bother with NA. I even tracked down a ranger who was the same level I was and asked if I could check him. My gear just blew his away but a lil while later, he had a party and I did not. Yes i realize there is a language barrier, but you dont see NA not inviting JP cause of that, as long as there is skill who cares about communication you know. So just look during peak NA hours if you can.

it is kind of sad how NA are discriminated. but more often than not, a jp player will have a bad experience with a NA PT and then blindly assume all NA are bad. it's playing the percentages. i'd say a higher percent of jp players are better than NA. so if you join a jp PT, more often than not, you'd do great. i'd say below 30, maybe 1 out of 10 random NA PT have been good. 31-60 maybe 1 out of 6. 60+ i'd say maybe 1 out of 4. but if it was a jp PT, the percentages are a little better. (again, i'm not flaming NA and calling jp leet or any other sh!t like that. i'm only stating my experience).
as for NA inviting jp, it's because the higher percent of jp are better than NA. so more often than not, you get a competent player with good gears. hence, there would be no reason not to invite a jp (assuming there are more good jp than good NA ppl).

Yeah, there are plenty of shitty JP players too. Its the ignorant ones that tout a JPOnly or NAOnly sign around.

In the mid 50s, my static party picked up a JP THF and a JP PLD. The THF knew enough english to get by, and was so impressed with us (Naffenu inpeticular) that she joined our linkshell. The JP PLD, Kingfisher, was absolutly dredful. He couldnt help set up SATA/Fuidama, and couldnt keep hate at all. You would normally blame the language barrier, but we had a Japanese speaker (the THF) there trying to coach him. He just didnt get it.

There's maybe something else that gets you away from invites : the first letter of your name.

Sad to believe but when ppl form a pt, they type /search aera and (blind)invite anyone that is their level, whom job fits and comes first on the list :?

Im' not giving any help so I'll just finish telling you that you are a great player and that I've sticked to (y)our LS since our pt in Valkrum just for the feeling of friendship I felt then.

Rune, I don't know what to tell you but it happens. I hit a brick wall with my WHM several times. I would have that flag up and no invites. I would ask other parties if they needed me and they would say no we need a tank. I think it gets harder at higher levels. Best luck to you.

I have been fortunite to be in some all jp parties where I was the only english guy. They level like crazy and do major team work. Its like I said before they hardly go AFK and stick with it.

Other times I am in NA parties and we get 1 or maybe 2 jp players and if we have one guy makeing an ass out of himself then the jp player usually wants out. "I am sleepy" or "I have things to do" those comments usually pop up sometimes. Its not the language barrier or a racial thing, its basically they want to level and they do not want to put up with any foolishness. People that are not performing their job well or someone whining about how the xp sucks when the purpose it was pulled was too build up TP before they go pull something harder. I am not saying this to offend anyone but to give an idea what they do. I am WHM and just sit there so I have been watching what they do. I do not complain about anything cause they know what they are doing and I am gratefull they selected me to be their WHM (I know I was the only WHM seeking at the time  ). Also they hate it when you join then disband after 30 minutes or an hour. They are afraid we would pull this stunt on them when the whole party gets where it needs to be. They want to level and want everyone to be dedicated for a few hours. Then thats it. Usually they quit after maybe three or four hours I notice. Its not like how we do it at all. Ok lets try to level the whole day and if anyone leaves then find a replacment. I know I may sound like an idiot saying all of this but I know what I seen.

don't get too hung up on leveling runekane, there's a lot more to ffxi. chatting and hanging out also works.

Take a break, simply all you can do. Or quit. If your not happy then ppl shouldnt force you to do something your not happy with. Most of these posts are about you sticking around and hanging out at least... for what? If your not having fun(remember this is a game) then do what you do for most games, take a break and come back to it and stop worrying about it...

I am a 67 lv THF and went(and still going) through all that crap that you describe so buck up and take it or find something else to focus on. It doesnt get any easier...

Your equipment maybe the best but that does squat for finding groups, I know tards that dont even wear pants get into groups or just hit 70 and their sj is still underlvled.

Its not you, its the enviroment and how incredibly odd how it nurtures the lame and pathetic players of this game.

i know just what you mean, i once disequiped all my armor before i met the party to see if they would still take me (thats like negative almost 100 mp) and thery didnt care, as long as i refreshed they really didnt give a SH*T.

now, i havnt done that before and i wont do it again because there is a rdm who is notorious for wearing subligar
