Don't watch if you don't like snakes or live feeding of snakes.

I love snakes, but I love mice too. Either way it doesn't bug me, but it makes me want one of each again lol

Is there a particular reason people feed them live food?

Is there any reason the snake was crap? Like shouldn't they kill stuff faster than that or something? If it wasn't in a box that mouse could of got away?

The music killed me, thank god for mute.

Not really, eventually we'd like to get her on frozen. But she's just a baby yet... we'll see ^^

Oh, are they not as fast as babies?

She was moved out of her cage to feed so she doesn't associate her cage with feeding time. Any good snake keeper moves their snakes to a feeding box.

Too bad about the music, its not for everyone, my husband made the video lol

Feeding frozen rats/mice is easier than live in the long run, thats why, has nothing to do with speed. Rattlesnakes stalk prey and then strike. The striking speed is important, not slithering speed :p

Oh right, as you can clearly tell I have NO clue about snakes haha. Will she eventually be conditioned into thinking her feeding box is for food time? Kinda want to see how big it gets lol.

She could get 7' long. And yes, she will learn that being moved from cage to box is feeding time :p

Photos of our snake that my husband took :)

That second picture is badass. Though I have to say it's rather small in the video, looks much larger in the pictures. lol. But yeah.. it had all the time in the world to eat the mouse since it pretty much fucked it up with the first two bites. It has venom? I'm not too knowledgeable on snakes, so I assume the diamondback is poisonous considering how it killed the mouse.

Yeah my husband has a Nikon D300 and a very expensive setup for macro photography, thats why those closeups kick so much ass lol

Anyway, yes she is venomous, as are all rattlesnakes, and we do not intend to alter that in any way. I personally feel that it would affect her health if we were to have the venom glands removed. I don't think she'd be able to eat very well if her bites didn't pack a punch, ya know what I mean?

damn. I dont like either of the two things you said to not watch it for...but i still watched it. Gonna go think about life a bit now...i think the color has drained from my face...

why....the fuck do you have a pet rattlesnake? :|

I love snakes but i wouldnt get a venomous one. i'd get a nice python i can put on unsuspecting visitors. :)
althought know what i know about snakes, if i broke into someones house and heard that rattle my desire to remove anything from the house would vanish faster than yours snake's dinner.

Probably one of the biggest mistakes that animal enthusiasts make is getting a wild animal for a pet. Whether or not you move her from her cage to her feeding box, is not going to dull her natural threat senses to bite you or your husband. Handling and housing venemous snakes isn't something regular people should do. And by regular people, I mean anyone other than an experienced Herpetologist. Are either of you, that? It would make me feel a lot better if you were, because then I'd at least know you'd have milked the damn thing for some antivenom for when you inevitably get bitten by Fluffy.

Best of luck.

I had no idea people kept rattle snakes as pets, interesting.

By the way, when I saw that second picture this is what immediately came to mind:

If I got a snake, it wouldn't be a a venomous one like that lol. Rather have a python and leave the venomous ones in the zoo.

But if you can handle it, more power to ya. ^^

I gotta agree with Morwen on the topic of milking it so antivenom can be created. Dangerous keeping this thing as a pet but if you guys can handle the dangers more power to you.

I love you lots Eili but I have to agree with Morwen on this one :)
