I has a problem

My 360 keeps cutting out on me. After 10 minutes or so of play, the game freezes. No red ring of death, nothing. It just ceases to play until I reset it. I have no idea why, anyone else with similar problems?

I guess I should add some stuff:

- Gave it a hard reset, no avail.
- We had tons of lightningstorms around here. It is on a protected strip, but still..
- Recently purchased a used battery pack for controllers and a USB charger, may not be the cause but..
- May have dust in it? Fan nearby, constantly on.

How hot does it get? If it's normal, have you trtied playing a movie and see if the problem occurs again? Might be an issue with the reader.

It's normal, not too hot. I'm thinking it's the game and maybe the demo? I'm not sure. Splinter Cell DA and The Darkness Demo froze, but I just played the entire first portion of Oblivion (sewer escape) without it freezing once.

lol my game froze so many times on oblivion loved that game.
might be your game for some reson it just froze alot on certain games disks like my first oblivion for example. had to go out and by a new one and that one forked fine.

My brother's just started doing that this week. I can't get anything to go for more than 15-20 minutes. No red ring or overheating.

Also, it starts to make a grinding noise, like it is tearing up the disc, but when I eject it, it looked fine.

My brother just got this one back after having to send his first one in. He's gonna be pissed when he comes home from vacation on Saturday.

I had this problem with my first box. Would freeze after a bit of game play then reboot and it'd be ok for 10 min or so. Then freeze again. After a few times of rebooting it froze and gave me the red ring of death. Unfortunately sounds like the "known" overheating problem to me. Hopefully you have better luck with it than I did. lol

Ya as chas said clear the cache. It will perform properly after. Had this issue long ago with Oblivion, it used to skip and freeze. After clearing cache it works perfect. Every month or so i do this again.

The xbox doesn't feel very hot, and the disc isn't exactly very hot, and if the game doesn't freeze it plays fine for hours.

this could very well be a laser problem, get a laser cleaner and try that. that is if you have not tried to clear the Cache' yet, as the cache' cleaning usually fixes most all freezing problems, the only thing is you will have to download all update patches for each game that needs them again. Which really isnt a big issue.
If the problem persists you could buy a new laser online for pretty cheap, directions to replace can be found online too.
if you dont like that method, lie, say it has RROD and send it to M$! lol

when I perform maintenance, it doesn't ask to clear cache, just says performing maintenance.

It won't ask to do it, it's part of the maintenance. If you say yes to the maint., it'll clear the cache as part of the procedure

Well, after cooling down for about 2 hours, I got on again, played about 40 min, was in a nice party and POS froze again.

I'm having a similar problem...

Came back from a trip Friday night, got on, got completely kicked out, including xbox live 4-5 times. Then all I had to do was wait a few minutes and log back on. Everything was good until a couple of hours ago. Got completely kicked out, and now I can't sign into Xbox Live ><

I'm at a loss for what's going on.

My first 360 lasted 6 months to the day. It was a launch 360. It would freeze off and on for most of that 6 months. Was running from the OP in Qufim Island back to Jeuno one day, it froze and the screen went all wacky, and I got the 3 rings of death. Sent it in cause I had warrenty, and my new one has worked fine since. Although I have noticed strange sounds and what not out of it lately.

If it keeps doing it, just send it in. Microsoft is refunding all breakdowns if purchased within the first 3 years of launch.(or something like that)

I had this problem about mid-story with F.E.A.R. I took the game out and looked on the back and it had a nice scratch on it I didn;t look for... it was suppose to be new. Anyway, look for that. If that's not the problem, try swapping positions. Mine hates standing upright.

Definitly try this if it is still happening. I had this problem for awhile after i bought it (had it standing upright) and after i switched it, it worked perfectly and played like new.

Do not make your 360 sit vertically.
