Why can't people commit? Why do people break promises, break deals already made?

I have never ever made a thread in the flameboard, but I've had enough. This is too much and I need to vent it out.

Everything would be easier if people kept their word, you know? =\

What's done is done... I don't even know if it's worth it or not... I just... wanna let it out...where should I start? Beware long post.>_<;

The Ping-Pong Syndrome: Let's start with something real quick. Dynamis. Typical, don't you think? People come and leave, it's like ping-pong... except they rarely come back. They get some gear here and there then you find them doing something else during dynamis or just in a new shell. I'd understand if people stopped attending due to real life issues, but most of these people we're talking about only think about themselves. It's so typical too that this kind of people get so lucky at lotting that they get the gear first than the ones that have committed long time to a linkshell. Isn't it frustrating?

The "Whoops, I changed my mind" Syndrome: This is so typical too. People first agree on something, then something happens and they change their mind. Like for example, BCNM static. If you want this item that drops from said BCNM, why don't you talk with your static and make a deal BEFORE said item drops? Why don't you speak up your mind BEFORE we start to run the static? Why if we say the item is gonna be split, and ask everyone if it's ok, you say: "ok" to it, if you want it, if you aren't ok with it? You could avoid all kind of problems if only... you'd speak up!

Expensive item drops. Orb holder lots everything from his orb. We stated the rules before the static started: If expensive item drops, we split it between members. I remind him about that golden rule. He says: I know.

Next day, we say hello and all. I ask: "Did the item sell?" He replies with: "Um, actually I wanted to make a deal with you guys." We ask (kind of shocked): "What is it?" He says: "Well I want to keep this item, but I know you'd need your part of the split, but I don't have the money. You think you could give me a discount since I'm your friend lol? Or give me some time to get all the money to pay you guys back?" He got another less expensive item from that orb by the way. He'd have over a mil once that item sold. So we told him: "Just put the item on AH, and once it sells you'll have enough to buy your own item." To which he replied: "But I want this one, it has a special meaning to me."

Ten minutes pass, he hasn't put the item up on AH. He still refuses. Fine then, there's no point in keep arguing, let's just find a solution. Fortunately he agreed on the new deal we made for him. We bought the other less expensive item from him, and then he had enough to pay us both. Of course it was a bit less than it should have been had he sold the expensive item, but oh well. How can you trust when your own friends do that to you? It would have been no problem had he said he wanted to keep the item before the static started their first run... he just broke our trust, and it hurts. =\ Well the worse scenario would have been if he kept the item and just blist us... which happens often I bet.

How ironic is it, he says he can't trust anyone 'cause people have lied to him, but now can we trust him? He lied to us basically. =\

The "I value that other game over people" Syndrome:
Static time! Gather together at said time. We all agreed to commitment. Hey it's fine if you can't attend, if something irl comes up right? We started gathering, waited for one member since she was finishing dynamis at the time. She arrives, then wait for the last member, but he's nowhere to be found. So we ask her where is he? She says he's playing a game. "Is he gonna log on?" We ask, but there was no precise reply. I ask the leader if he's gonna get on, and she said "He's logging on" Okay let's wait for him, he's part of the static. An hour and a half passes... he's nowhere to be found. He's still trying to beat some boss from some other game. Woo... can't you beat that later? It's static time... Nope, he didn't get on, he was still trying to beat that boss he couldn't beat earlier. Since he was the disc holder, we had to look for a replacement and start all over again.

All the static was frustrated (well not everyone, guess why?) so we couldn't focus during the run, our morale was down, we did horribly. But hey, someone said "it's just bad luck". So after the 2nd run of wiping and all, we decided to start up fresh next week, we were all frustrated at the moment. And guess who got on? Yes, the disc holder did. I think he was feeling a bit uneasy and didn't feel like apologizing, I think someone pushed him to do it, but whatever. So he said something like: "hey guys sorry for holding you up, but I'm here now, best we can do is give it another shot".

We were already done. The harm was already done. What, make him get 5 more floors so he can go play and not attend another run? >.> We'd just be wasting our time again. I admit I used a bit aggresive language, but some people were just being too light on the situation, like ignoring it.... it was making me mad. Only two of us spoke up.

So he basically said to just forget about it, since it's a game, and it's all the same, his game is the same as this game, doesn't matter. That just get over it, and be all happy like if nothing had happened. "A game is a game, I lost track of time." He said... but of course he didn't lose track of time, 'cause he was aware that he had static that night. "I couldn't all on the same system", easy solution: get off that game which isn't gonna go anywhere, and commit to your static like you said you would. "Guys there isn't much to beat the donkey further lol XD, you know why I was late, and I'm sorry geez. I'm not gonna purposely screw you." Yeah... you did not screw us wasting our time, you did not screw us wasting our gil buying RR pins, food, tools, you did not screw our effort... you didn't do it on purpose. And you went to do some nyzul right after that with someone else.

This same disc holder almost replaced a member of our static 'cause they got confused with times, and didn't specify them the exact times, so they arrived late. Once they arrived and apologized, he still wanted to replace them with a friend, until I spoke up, said that wasn't fair. Once that member knew the correct times, he started to arrive on time. (they had some issues before, long time ago, maybe that's why)

So basically the disc holder didn't value us, our time. Didn't value a static member either, wanting to replace him just like that. He valued that other game over us 'cause after all... it's only a game for him, who cares about commitments with people. He said he won't do it again but how can we trust now...? *sigh*

Well I think this is all I wanted to let out. Sorry for the long post, had to type all the details.>.>; I know there's a lot more of these "syndromes" but that would be some extensive post. x_x; I might get some hate-mail, but I rather speak up than not being myself. Most of the times, people are scared to speak up, and prefer to keep their mouths shut. That's one of the reasons the world is like it is now. What do you guys think?

Without a doubt there will be multiple people who can identify with at least one of your scenarios listed above.

While sad that there are people who will do this, you're faced with the fact that, in the end, there isn't anything that can be done about it. If someone wants to steal a BCNM item and they have possession of it, you really are at their mercy come what may. In most cases this is why people do it, there is no way of stopping them, and there are no real repercussions for them doing so.

Speaking from experience, and in regards to people who would call themselves your 'friend' and follow the above, the best thing you can do is to call it a lesson learned. Be glad that what was lost wasn't irreplaceable, that you found out what they were actually capable of, and can avoid future occurrences where something more could have been stolen.

If you were that vexed that you chose to make a post, the chances are none of what I have stated will be what you want to read. In the end it's just a game, and remember to go out and do the things you enjoy, forget about the things you can't control.

Yeah this happens alot in this game. Best you can do is make a mental note that the person you speak of can't really be trusted to hold up his end of deals made between you guys. I'd cut him and move on. Replace the person and never do BCNM's with them. Once that person has burned all his bridges in the game, he'll probably realize it was pretty stupid to act the way he did.

Good luck with your static Rioko, hope you guys are able to complete your goals without this person. Oh, and this flame would have been much better had you named names... lol.

people break promise as they like because there are no rules to regulate them. GM not gonna be shit because someone wont give your share on drop or didnt show up when he suppose to.

just have to suck it up sometime, and move on, nothing can be done about like arezael said.

o btw, you wont have to deal with waiting for disk holder now with the new update, can just move on from where he left off, just make sure you have your own disk registered

People are selfish........and it shows once they get what they want.

As for your dynamis shell, change the rules so your veteran players don't get screwed over >< Pts + Attendance>Tiers. People tell me ALL the time how they get fucked over in a tier system.

Question, what was the other game, because if it was WoW then its possible he was keeping a prior commitment that was supposed to end on time but they guy a dew snares and wiped a dew times on a raid, so his not meaning to screw you could be legit, and your we're people argument could be right, but on both sides because WoW people are people too. If it wasn't a online mmo then ya fuck him.

Yeah in regards to getting gear and going, its much like people obtaining Wlegs or Kirin's Osode in Sky and then vanishing shortly afterwards, I've seen that happen often they set their goals and when they achieve them they are gone.

I agree its annoying to see a lack of commitment once they get what hey want.

In those instances, all you can do is just rest assured that the person's shown his/her true colors, and that it is indicative of their commitment to self.

As for attendance+points>tiers like Valcristiel had mentioned, Attendance+Points+Tier selection = fair, at least as far as my shell is concerned. Veteran members who have put in their time get (usually) their gear first, and the attendance places each member where they need be in line.

I can relate to your frustrations Rioko, i've seen a couple of statics fall apart because some people just disappear without saying a word and obviously consider the people that were helping them progress in the game to be nothing more than a 3d pixelated character.

The truth is that we're all people though. Behind each character, is a person. And you're right, when someone in the game decides to place something else in their life as a priority over a commitment they've made in the game, they should at least have the decency to contact the people invovled.... after all, you're giving up your time to do the event as well. But, people aren't always considerate of others in this game, they figure that because it's an online mmo and because they have never met the person in real life, it's justified to bail and leave other people hanging.

Through it all though, you will meet some people that do care a little more and you just have to remember who you can trust and who you can't. You learn who you can depend on, and who you can't.

It would be great if people you meet in this game would treat you the way they'd treat you in RL, but that's just wishful thinking. Only a few seem to have this philosophy.

Either way, don't let the stuff in the game get you down too much. It's frustrating but as long as you keep thinking on it, it will prevent you from being able to enjoy the game. :(

Had something similar to this I found out this morning, not via any notification whatsoever, but by her name being mentioned in a different linkshell's recruitment thread. I had given the benefit of the doubt that she had just quit the game again since she had just came back, but now finding out she's in another shell is pretty rich. Good stuff.

It wasn't WoW, his gf never mentioned it until he mentioned something about Ops: Dark, and something about killing Hitler... >.>; I suppose it's Operation Darkness? You can enlist up to 3 more players for co-playing, but still... it's not like Hitler is gonna go anywhere, huh? It isn't exactly a MMO, but can use Xbox Live to play, but you don't necessarily need to play it with 3 others. If it was scheduled, he coulda told us the past monday run so we could have improvised better, but he didn't, so I highly doubt it was scheduled.

Then a big fuck you was in order.

Then a big fuck you was in order.

It doesn't matter if it was an MMO or not. If you have another game/rl responsibility that MIGHT cause you to be late (that's MIGHT, not even a guarantee, just MAYBE), then you shouldn't make another obligation. I never, ever sign up for anything unless I know 100% that I can be there and that I can be on-time. Anyone who does otherwise is a jackass.

Well I wasn't talking about my present dynamis shell, 'cause it's based on attendance, so it's all good. Was mostly talking about my past shell, where our leaders were kind enough to let lot everyone who needed a relic, but some people abused of this and just vanished in the air. :x You'd see them for two runs, then disappear. I tried my best to attend all runs, but college sucked most of my time in the last 1-2 months of the shell's life. It died in the end...

I was really frustrated and disappointed last night, I had the "I wanna quit" syndrome lol... but it wouldn't be fair for my dynamis shell, nor for my nyzul static... I just wanna enjoy this game but it's hard when you meet people like that. =\ I basically had no home last night 'cause I didn't feel like equipping the LS where my... "friend" is. I don't know what happened to him, he transformed into another person when the PCC dropped. He was becoming the person he hated most, 'cause he hates lies, and he lied to us.

I agree with you completely and if asked to join in an event I tell them that I may be late or possibly not even ago, I tell them to make plans to replace me long before its close to time to start.

yeah i've been down those lanes a few times and whenever I plan something I always make something very clear or over-recruit because with anything there's always going to be a few that don't show up on time or forget.

i think it's because of the people requirement the less there is to be required the less urge to be online and the less people to lot/get items the less competitive the situation is.

But if you up the competitiveness all of a sudden you see more people(in what I've done in the past get more people).

but stuff like that isn't always an option and yeah since the MMO is based on teamwork it's not always going to have a positive outcome.

Sorry that happened Rio

Hitler come bloody well wait, if you have 4/5 people waiting for you at a set time in FFXI, then at least have the decency to organise your time better and show up for a once a week static at the time requested. Its as bad as saying "I was playing Mario, sorry. =)"

Heheheh. I could name names! You or Dx were always nice enough to let us know what you're schedule was like, Rio, instead of just not showing up for a couple months. Whats the thing called? Oh, right, courtesy. :P
