It seems like I've been in a rut lately as far as exp parties go. Last night however me and and a buddy of mine decided to exp after the Triple Besieged (awesome job Quetz). We started a party with Majinboo and he invited a nice group of people.

Eynix had this idea of fighting Marids, I only knew that Blm's solo them, I wasn't quite sure of what level exp parties could fight them, but we figured that we would give it a go.
It was a whole bunch of fun. I mean it was exciting and it kept me busy.
We hit a high of chain #12 I believe, off one Marid. I think the lowest we hit was Chain #8.
True we had to rest after every fight, it was close everytime, but we would get Chain 10+ almost every time off one Mob.
The way it works is that the Marids pop smaller mobs Chelos(sp?) that can be one shotted w/ a WS, and give 80-180 exp each.
Just about every chain would yeild about 1,400-1,800 exp. I banded and got 2,500 exp off one go. We maintained 8k an hour exp wise, (With band it hit 13k but thats not reliable lol)
In conclusion that definetly kicked me out of the rut that I was having.
All I have to say is: <3 Marids.

Yeah... I guess marids are cool if you have a group. I made a mistake of thinking I could kill one alone on my bst... I wasn't prepared for how hard they hit or the spawning fleas.

Something that still gives me nightmares.

Heh, I love marids too. This party was pulling in 10-14k an hour, the exp went down as we leveled but no one cared. Went from just into 66 to 1k to 69 with 2 parties that only lasted about 3 hours each. PLD's rock marids hard, every time I've done this with nin's the exp wasn't nearly as good and we had deaths. Although Mariox was crazy good, so that definitely helped.

Maybe someone up there will let my mnk XP so I can frikin do some leveling in the new damn zones. La sigh..
 
I love marid's also. Had two great parties on them...got an entire level plus each time.
 
Paladin's do rock these things pretty hard, I won't say pld orny, but I would expect that Nin's get punished on these things.

How long have you all exped off these things?
 
They're fun to solo as ninja too. Chigoes should be EM all the way to 70, but once you hit lvl 71 the exp will drop down considerably. Also there's at least 4 single party camps for them in Woodlands, and the camp in Buffalo Tickets can support at least 4 parties.

You can do them in a party at 65-66, and Cythe was 69 by the time I took that picture, so the exp is still viable until at least 70 like Stouter said. On top of the 90-120 exp per chigoe(depends on the level of the marid) the marids themselves were giving 350-450 exp, without an exp ring on. I'd have to say that BLU is now my preferred method to take out the fleas, since they can use frentic rip to practically one-shot the chigoe without untargetting the marid. Also if they don't kill the chigoe in one hit the chigoe doesn't die with no exp so there's little risk about not getting exp.

I would think with a nin you'd definitely want a rdm trying to keep gravity on the marid and to have the other dd be vigilant about the chigoes.

Nin's would still get torn apart by the chigoe. The fleas are monk-types so they attack twice each round, and you can't claim them with provoke for a few seconds after they spawn, during which they're attacking the nin and draining all of their shadows. Of the 4 parties I've tried marids on, 2 were with nin's and in both of them the nin got shredded by the fleas and people died; pld is by far better for marids.
 
Think it was intentional? Pld -where- complaining about nin being the tank of choice for fast endgame xp, heh.
 
I loved these. Went from 66-69 on these with drg. DRG/WHM is great for these. Really keeps down the stress of the mages with curing, especially when the buggies come out, I know it saved my party's butt a few times. Didn't know what chain 15 on an IT mob looked like... it was like 420+ when the big guy went down w/o ring. Sick exp, I love these guys :)

Once you get the timing down it's easy. More than half the time I kill the chigoe before it even gets a swing at me.

Marids have a two level range, I believe they are 78-79. I can't find a chart that lists exp accurately for EM and up 70+, the one on somepage is wrong. The chigoes are 70-71, regardless of the Marid's level.

Grand Marids are a level or two above normal Marids, the difference is barely noticable. I got the max base exp possible off the one I killed, and from the exp party I fought one in the Chigoes off the Grand Marid appeared to be around level 73. It was the first one we killed, and my exp band wore before we even killed the Grand Marid itself.

They move at gravity speed, so there's no point in keeping gravity on them for a ninja to run and get shadows back up. They're basically like goobues, as long as you can take care of the Chigoes promptly nin is a better tank on them.

I have to say PLD tank is best on these. More TP to the mob, and less panic mode if you get overrun with an extra flea. I've been semi staticing with Mariox on these with my BLU, and he's done an excellent job. I would definately take PLD over NIN on these. Also, on such drawn out fights, PLD hate holding abilities tend to shine when you start chaining high into the 20+'s.

No worries Tidy, it took us quite a while to get done with all the Besieged stuff.
I'm sorry that you missed out on the exp though. It was a bunch of fun, I'll be exping tomorow hopefully, I really want 68. Maybe we can hook-up and give these a go again.
