I quit. (post of the year)

At exactly what point is it ok to just walk the hell away from this thread instead of parroting yourself over and over for whatever reason? You hacked, you quit, the end.

Actually, I can sorta see what Sneaky is saying here. What I mean is, Everything that is meant to be done in this game is very doable without hacking. And while someone may get something like help, or an item due to hacking, it didn't truely help them, because they didn't actually do anything. It made them lazy/worse players. It deffinately saved them time, but by doing so, probably made what they got with that time worth less to them too. So while there is benefit that can be held in hand, even that is diminished by all that was lost to get it there.

Yes that's kind of what I am saying.

That and the fact that hacks NEVER helped anyone. How can they help if you don't need them to begin with?

The only thing they are good for is cheating.

QFT

And here's a little anecdote for ya:

When I was just a wee little 52 Bst/Whm, I wanted a Valkyrie mask real bad. This was back around the outrageous holiday inflation and it was beyond my reach gil-wise at the time, so I decided I'd farm in Beadeaux and try to camp Ga'bhu Unvanquished. One way or the other, I figured I'd be getting that mask.

Problem was, everything near him would not only aggro me, anything more than a one-on-one fight would have probably killed me.
Wait . . . did I say probably?

So after 9 claims against much higher-level folks, three near-death experiences, and an awful lot of kiting, I got the drop. I was overjoyed! I felt like I'd accomplished something I could be proud of through a combination of patience, planning, and skill, along with a healthy dose of luck.

But now that you've so clearly and repeatedly pointed out that I'd have derived the same sense of accomplishment via MrArgus and some discreetly applied usage of a pos hack, I'm proud to announce that I've seen how delusional and misguided I've been. [/sarcasm]

So yesterday I asked directions from this guy, who turned out to be an ex-murderer. So therefore, since I benefited from a murderer, I support murder and am OK with it.

this is exactly what ive been saying, i mean i couldnt have worded it any better for the ignorant to understand. It was cleared up pages ago and other people have defined it the same as i have. dont read so hard into something that was simply stated, this is exactly what i have been saying.

Some people have avoided this thread completely. Others chime in once, or every so often (like a few posts every 30 pages.../sigh), and some people have posted on almost every page (YOU).

If it was that clear, the thread wouldn't get anywhere near 100 pages, let alone pass it. You're saying goodbye, but you definitely wanted drama. You got it and you've been at the edge of your seat the entire time.

The only thing that's clear, and that was already known, and merely confirmed is that you cheating prick that honestly believes he has a right to cheat. Of course, anyone who believes they are the center of the universe, caring not about the experiences of the legit players all around them would walk around with your attitude. It would actually be better if you were oblivious to it all, but you recognize that people are legit and don't want your hacks...And you stop here in your goodbye thread to rub it in. WTF did you expect, really?

Nobody benefits from hacking. You are ignorant to think that hacking benefits the game or anyone in it. You are the one that is warped for thinking hacking brings any benefit to this game or the people that play it.

All things being relative, the level of benefit any given individual will see will be more or less the same:
1. In a world completely without hacks
2. In a world where everyone hacks

Problem is, we don't have all hackers or zero hackers. We have some. Most of them stick together. The people that know they are "benefitting" from a hacker in their shell are almost as guilty.

Hacking is just unnecessary. A hacking shell is cheating to get claims. It's an unfair advantage over competing shells that are not hacking. If you played fairly, sure you wouldn't get as many claims, but you also would not be a cheating, selfish asshole ruining the experience for those that play by the rules.

Every person makes a choice. You decided to be a cheating, selfish asshole ruining the experience for those that play by the rules.

Exactly.

Chasym is trying to cast blame on real players to make it seem like he was one of us himself; like we should consider his time spent in the game as something other than what it was. Not only was it a big waste of time but it helped to ruin the game.

See real players can understand this. It's not that hard. If no work/skill/time/etc. was put into gaining something then its worthless. They did NOT benefit. They just got an imaginary item in a game world. That's just as pathetically stupid as paying for said virtual item. Without the actual "play" it takes to get it it's completely worthless. And when worthless items compete against real items we have artificial inflation.

Every cheat circles back around to affect the community. While you're planning your next round of cheats why don't you have an honest moment, take out a calculator, and add up the total hours wasted by a non-cheating end-game shell from 1 week of camping gods against bots and failing to outperform code. That code doesn't care. That code doesn't have kids, school work, friends, unfinished projects, wives, etc. And yet it has just stolen time away from real people who have all those things. And because that time was stolen they will either try again and invest more hours or give up entirely. The time many of us spend playing is time we could be doing other things and when its wasted by cheating then the time we spent was for nothing. And because you participated and wrote code you are a thief of a substance you can never repay. Time. This is why you fail.

No...not quite it.
How the hell would you benefit from a murder(er) if you you didn't commission him in the first place?
Asking directions from one isn't quite the same "benefitting" as to the cheating "benefitting."
Don't try to compare that to a game...distasteful.

you act like you, yourself, couldn't even up the playing field and get hacks too.. that's not right but if you want "fair" than you might as well.. realize this, if you haven't yet.. life's not fair.. nothing in life is fair.. shit's gonna happen that you can't control.. even if you some how convinced every hacker here to stop hacking there are certainly still JP players that hack and many that probably can't speak english and/or wouldn't care about you anyways...

And I don't think chasym's trying to cast blame on real players at all.. he's just pointing out that real players also have most likely benefitted (item-wise or mission-wise or BCNM-wise) from a hacker and not even known about it. Considering how many hack I'd not doubt it.

As for the "real player" comment.. if someone completely hacks everything in the game, than I guess they aren't really playing the game, from what I could tell, Chasym actually did play the game, exp-wise, BCNM-wise (except prolly the OH BCNMs where we got the flee hacking PLDs and whatnot), and other aspects of the game. I'm not really saying hacking's right at all... nor am I saying Chasym's awesome.. but I do know many of you that used to like chasym and find amusement from things posted here and other whatnots.. and now cause of one bad thing which really didn't effect many of you in anyway you all think he's the worst piece of shit in the world.. I think that's rather sad...

I'm still disgusted by this thread, cheaters suck, plain and simple.

no doubt about that.. but they're in the real world and in the virtual one. If you've cheated on a test, cheated on a lover (that disgusts me more than anything else I think), cheated someone outta money, cheated in any other way you can think of.. you're just as bad, if not, worse..

This is what I like to hear. This is why people play this game. It is the CHALLENGE that makes it an actual "game", not the stupid items.

It were about items we could all use the money from about 6 months of playing (to get gil) and just buy all the "uber+1 gearzorz". Hell, we might even save money by buying gil in the long run. But you cannot buy fun and you cannot purchase memories and experiences. They are what you make them.

If you don't want the challenges of a game you might as well watch a movie instead. Movies don't require gaming skill and neither does cheating.

maybe to you it's the challenge, to me too.. but unfortunately 99% of the people in this game only care about the items.

than why are you bitching about what you have no power of changing? You can't stop the hackers from coming and hacking.. I don't like hackers anymore than you do.. they pissed me off when it was obvious at every HNM camp.. did I bitch? Not the first time.. after awhile ya.. but I realized after awhile that it was pointless to bitch, it was doing no good and it was a waste of time, just send a message to a GM if you see hacking and hope that something happens, otherwise, unless you, yourself, begin to do something which is also wrong (aka, hacking the hacker's computer and fucking it up), you're not gonna be able to do much else and the bitching does no good for anyone. If you really wanna write down a bitching rant about hackers or whatever.. well.. there's myspace, blogs, livejournals, pen and paper.. go have fun with that..

If I was selfish or playing a SINGLE PLAYER game I would consider it an option. I'm on PC. I could hack if I wanted to and probably not get caught doing it. But the fact is, why should I add to the unfairness of life when I can make it a little more fair for other people? And all I have to do is not cheat. It's not that difficult. My need for items is not that overwhelming because... oh snap...its just a game. If I cheated how would that even things up for the people on PS2 who can't? Or those that don't want to because its...oh I dunno...WRONG. It doesn't even anything up. It just puts you on the wrong side.

There's always at least 1 person who you can control though and that is yourself. No one is being forced to play so no one is being forced to cheat. And again, its not a race. The more widespread cheating becomes the more it will exponentially jack up the game. In the real world a lot of people are criminals. But if our reaction was "lets all be criminals" would life be better? No.

By that standard you could also say that RMT are real players. They "play". They even make parties, do BCNMs, etc. But they do not play the actual "game" because they're playing for real money and jacking up the way the game was meant to be played in the process. Chasym's hacking actually helps them by validating their tactics. So maybe we should give them all a hug and make excuses for them. And my opinion of Chasym isn't so low because he cheat(ed). It's hella low because he would do it again and plans to help cheaters in the future. Without even the psuedo-benefits he wants to help wreck the game for us. And you're sorta defending him. Interesting...

What a joke.

Really?? Because I can make game for you where you don't even have to fight. You just buy items and instead of having to play for the "money($$)" to buy them I'll just give you $$1mil/mo for your membership fee of $14.95. You wont even have to actually wear the stuff. I'll just draw super neato pics of it (better than FFXI) and make up stats for it (wont have to be balanced because who cares about that stuff anyway, right?). And you can just send me a photoshop image of your character and I'll even install the items on for you. There wont be any animation per se but you'll be looking real pimp.

You interested?

I don't think she's being a spokesperson for cheating >.>

She's stating that if you see others cheating and you don't want to be doing the same thing as them "to have a level playing ground", then report them to a GM and hope they would do something about that.

Or...you can do the same thing (hacking) and hack up the cheater's PC via their ISP or whatever so they can't come onto the game.

People on PS2 can cheat, most just don't know how or care to learn it seems (or have come to the belief that it can't be hacked, which it can have hacks). I didn't hack (other than my flee hack spree around the meriphated's mountains zone which was all of 5 minutes) but I'm not gonna bitch anymore about hackers. I realized awhile ago I can't do anything about them. So why are you bitching about em? You, again, can't control them.. you can, at best, hope to influence them, make them think a bit more, see things from your point of view, but you can't control them and bitching about them does nothing

But if our reaction was "lets all be criminals" would life be better? No.

It's different sense.. most criminals in life are crimes where there's really a victim.. (unless it's a "victimless crime" like prostitution and gambling or even drugs technically since they chose to use the drugs) where as, in a game, who's the victim? How are you the victim exactly? A hacker is most likely not directly effecting you (especially if they hack to the point of creating items outta nothing for themselves). It might be a nuissance to you during HNMs, but, guess what? THERE ARE BCNMs WHERE YOU CAN FIGHT THOSE VERY SAME MONSTERS (well not entirely the same but close enough where it's just as fun, usually less HP cause of the time limit). You say you don't care about the items? Then go do those for the challenge and fun, you could prolly get enough LSmates around to do it. When I actually played a lot I tried to get KS99 going a lot, I loved the challenge, didn't give a shit about the items. I wanted to do King Behemoth, Fafhogg, Aspid, Tiamat, Jorm, Vrtra, etc all for the challenge and if I was still playing Cerberus and Hydra too.. I don't care if they dropped only a pebble, I'd still have fun fighting them for hte challenge, eventually I might get bored but that's gonna happen with HNMs anyway.. a lot with HNMs tend to get bored of the actual fight and just keep doing them for the items, which seems really boring :|

Internet =/= United States though. But I do agree.. he shoulda brought it out long ago :P being an accomplice to a crime is bad (though not as bad as actually commiting the crime).

as much as I hate RMT, a lot of them do play the game for fun reasons as well as money :| (at least from what I can tell from those little movie things and "interview with an RMT" crap they have fun). There are former RMT that still play for fun as well. According to what's her name (I really am bad at names..) the elvaan girl that is friends with some ex-RMT and whatnot.

I'm not really defending him as much as I like poking at what people say. I agree, hacking sucks, it pissed me off a lot in the game. I was in endgame for a long time and saw many hackers (obvious and suspected) and it annoyed the hell outta me. I don't think chasym's the worst fucking person in the world like all of you suddenly believe though. Sure he cheated but I some how doubt you're perfect too.. I'm sure you've done something that's immoral. We all have. Continuously doing immoral things knowing its immoral is wrong too which is something that annoys me about chasym but the rest of the stuff around here has amused me so I'd rather focus on that than the 1 bad thing that never actually effected me.

Sneakypants said:

you're an idiot.. I told you, I hate hackers, I don't like hacking, I don't like that they out claim my LS at a HNM when I played.. but I stopped bitching about them too because it didn't do a damn thing and I'm sure it annoyed people as your bitching annoys me.

Either suck it up, report to a GM when you see it, or even the playing field by hacking yourself (either hacking the game or them). Otherwise, stfu
