Hdd crashed 8-9 months ago and I canceled my account, need to know if I'd be able to get char back or if it's gone for good. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you. I also have a question about connection... I use to play on a ps2 aol dial-up. Aol doesn't support ffxi anymore and I was wondering if anyone knew of an alternitive dial-up connection, please don't be a smart ass and say get highspeed, it's not avaliable where I live, thank you.

If you cancelled your content ID, you can try and activate your account. SE is "suppose" to delete characters after 3 months of inactivity, however like with any company that has accounts, they don't exactly get around to doing this as promptly as they should.

If your account was deleted, you can call SE and they can restore your character. You might need your original POL registration codes though, or something else to verify that you were the original owner. Unfortunately I don't know the exact process.

If you deleted your account, i'm not too sure if you can have it restored though I imagine it is possible if SE can restore accounts that they deleted.

Last I checked the "Return to Vanadiel" campaign was still active, they reactivate accounts. If it is not, then I apologize.

It's not exactly like people are beating down doors to join overflowing servers. I once re-activated Bedwarmer after 6 months of in-activity so I really don't forsee any problems for you. Like I said in PM, they'll want:

The original software activation codes that came with the original software your charater was created on.

The current POL and FFXI passwords you used at the time you quit.

The last Credit Card used for billing.

The original billing address.

Check out Earthlink. I seem to remember that being pretty decent when I last had dial-up. There's also Netzero.

I'ma lol if you have to start over. Who's draggin who's "nub ass through Bastok missions" this time son?

Actually they delete the account after one year of inactivity

Ya know, this is fortunately not true.

I just got back in, after 3 YEARS, with all my characters and stuff intact. >_> That was Sunday Night 11/16/08, last payment was 10/20/05.

So, yes, you might still have your stuff etc. I say might, because who can tell for sure?

No. If You do not get a local dial up number, you'll be automated to the nearest one...which can or can not be in your city.

Then they charge you for long distance. Then at the end of the month they give you a 300.00$ Internet Bill for giving you the wrong information they were asked for in the beginning.

Earthlink is uber for a connection.

Considering I had my account deactivated for 9 months and I came back with everything intact. Although who knows... this was way back in 04...

my friend from my clan quit a few years back and cancelled his account, he came back a few months ago and all his stuff was still there.

My friend cancelled his credit card and quit when they shut him down. And apparently, all accounts shutdown for inability to pay get set aside because SE expects them to be reactivated shortly....

Long story short, he hame back after 4 years and his account was still in the delinquent accounts section according to customer service.

Ninja Edit: we shouldnt even be discussing this. Honestly, its just poor business practice to not archive acct info of deleted accts., especially when it was evident early on that old players would be a good source for future revenue...

Even though I dont really like WOW, its just another thing they got right.
