Ice Age of Gil

I didn't say it would be a huge issue alone, I think the guy is probably a little paranoid. However, considering every time SE bans gil sellers, huge amounts of gil are reportedly deleted, it's not helping the situation. If given the choice, I'd rather see a stable economy rather than deflation or inflation.

The bolded part is actually flawed. Earning gil through beastmen isn't getting worse, it's getting better. Since the gil dropped by beastmen is static and deflation is lowering values, the relative amount they drop is becoming more and more valuable. Although, it'll probably never be a good way to earn gil, it is increasingly becoming a more viable source of revenue. If the server was ever to become devoid of gil, then this would actually be the best method to earn gil.
Everyone would obviously want a stable economy more than one that rises and fall; but that has never happened anywhere and it never will. If SE does nothing, the gil sellers dominate and fuck up the economy, causing prices to rise dramatically; everyone complains because everything is expensive as hell. When SE bans gil sellers, prices fall dramatically, but only the morons who don't know how to farm complain. As I already said, just about no players really should be concerned with this "problem," since it's not that hard to make enough money to pay for your limbus/dynamis, if you even have to pay for your dynamis.

If I seriously don't think the economy will ever be bad enough that getting 100-150 gil per kill ends up being the best way to make money.

Poker example doesn't work well here because poker has a limited amount of money involved in it. You are arguing on assumption that eventually gil will be so hard to come by that only few people will be able to make enough money to do dynamis and limbus. That will never happen, and thus my comment holds true that you can still make enough money to do those things. I don't find it necessary to quote anything unless I am directly referring to it. Answer or commenting on a question is not directly referring to it, so I did not quote unnecessary text.

That was the entire point of the OP. If the game continually removes gil like it is doing, both via in game gil sinks and banning gil sellers, money will eventually be scarce. Even now it's hard to sell anything. Be it crafting materials or the end product, there is a lot of competition and people are being stingy with their money because they no longer feel they have enough. It's a possibility it could happen, but in reality, it'll take a long time probably longer than most players will be around.

However, just because it's not entirely realistic doesn't mean it doesn't have some good insight. Being that gil is being removed from the system at a faster rate, it'll be harder for people to do these things freely. A year ago, someone might have been willing to sponsor a dynamis run or do a run on a whim with only a few members present because the rewards versus imput was much greater (1 mil entry vs 40k coins/4mil 100 coins). Now, if a dynamis run is short on people, the shell has to consider not running at all because the possibility the run cannot pay for itself is much higher. There is also the 8 million gil subligars once used for desynthing into Cashmere or Shining Cloth. I don't think many consider doing such a risky venture especially when the pay-off is very small even if you are to succeed. While, you are correct that it probably stop people from doing these events, it certainly did stop them from that one synth so who's to say it won't do it to other aspects of the game as well?

I was there last Christmas, thanks. It was a good time, I made a lot of gil. What people don't realize that during last inflation it was actually easier to make money in terms of how much money was actually worth. For example what you could farm in an hour last christmas could buy more than what can be bought with what you can farm in an hour today. Even though things seem "cheaper" when you look at just the price numbers, but in reality they are much more expensive in terms of worth of money.

During X-mas most people just looked at pure numbers of "omg this costs 8 mil" when 8 mil was easier to make back then, than it is to make a mil now. That kind of sounded awkward but you get the idea. SE did not fix it because it did not need fixing, it actually help the economy grow. Of course a lot of people complain for a year to make things cheaper, so SE takes out money out of the economy. This results in excess deflation, making money harder to make and thus actually making things more expensive in terms of worth.

very well said, and very true.

It also proves what the original post was all about is true. While yes, money is worth less, Dynamis always cost the same. 8 mil back then was less then 1 mil is now, but that also means Dynamis is more expensive now then it was back then.

So even if items decrease in price, Dynamis and Limbus stays the same. Thus making those 2 events more expensive, which was what the argument was about. Not items that can be bought off ot the AH. Dynamis and Limbus doesn't take in to consideration how much gil is worth, it always stays the same.

If you can't afford 160k a week to do dynamis and limbus, you are playing the game wrong or something. I mean hell you can sell two coins a week from limbus and that will pay 90k-100k of your limbus expense.
Those coins are down to 30k each, and not going up since it's so easy to get enough coins for all your needs in a few months time.

I spent 900k on limbus in December. I doubt I got more than 200k from NPC sales and beastmen/NM gil drops.

I agree with what you are saying but that's not what the OP said. He said eventually you will run out of money to do these things, and that just won't ever happen. Things will change when need be

Well, the OP was rather melodramatic and exagerated things xD But the point he brought up was still rather interesting :p

Chests/Coffers were missing among the list of Gil being added. Ru'Aun Garden coffers kick out about 12-13k solo, more when partied with others. Although it seems smaller because it's divided. Keys are pretty easy to get, and the coffers almost always up - You just have to find it among all the bushes and walls.

It's certainly not a lucrative method of adding gil in to the system, but it's there.

Kuftal Tunnel is 10k-15k solo aswell, coffers dont get more easy than that.

yes but so was sale tax when putting a item up for sale. Nor was npc bought crafting supplies.

except that you are farming "items" to "sale" not gil. SE keep changing thing to rare/ex making people have to find other ventures. Lets say farm slime oils. Slime oils are no longer very profitable, why because they are over farm. Larger item are having harder time to sale because of lower demand, or because people don't have the gil spend, because there items don't sale. In other words if the gil get depleted farming will mean zip. Or you will be spending days farming, just get the amount of gil that you use to get in a hour. It the global warming of FFXI. Actually was flaw in the interior of the game itself. Not enough mobs drop gil, and no quest are really worth repeating to get gil. More and more gil being taken out not enough being put in. To make matter worse rmt sale hoarded there gil. It only going get worse unless SE can figure a way to put that money back in the system faster.

W... what?

I was talking about how treasure chests and coffers add gil in to circulation, and you're saying sales tax and npc crafting supplies do the same thing...?

No, he's saying while one option of putting gil into the game was left off the list, so were sales tax and AH tax left off the list of ways to remove it.

Right now, when all is said and done, more gil is leaving the economy than entering it by a large margin.

There's alot of things that NPC for more than people pay on the AH for, suprised at how many people commonly farm those drops and don't just drop of off at NPC.

also outpost warp fee and airship/boat fee not on list either (for money taken out of the game)

I know it's farming an item to sell rather than farming gil, but they sell for significantly more than you'd make farming gil; that was the whole point, congrats for not noticing. This isn't a serious problem, the effect of the drain is a minor concern at best, unless you're stupid enough to farm gil directly rather than farm items to sell for gil. Stop acting like the server is about to run out of gil at any moment, at the current "drain" we'd have enough gil to last years; and that's assuming that people wouldn't start bringing in more gil to the economy or stop giving their gil to npc's.

Well, consider this. When the servers just opened, the only way to farm for gil was through doing quests, missions, and kill beastmen (and open coffers, but that's not untill much later).

Everything must have been very cheap, and having 100k was considered "rich".

After just a year there were billions of gil in the server. While yes, most were synthing food and selling to a NPC, and some were rusty caps and selling to an NPC. No matter, there were billions of gil in circulation.

My point is, I highly doubt gil will run out. The only reason we're "low" on gil is due to all the bannings lately which have removed billions of gil. When the bannings slow down, the growth of gil will once again be larger then what is removed. So I hoenstly would not worry about it.

actually no that wrong. You forgetting that dynamis and limbus did not exist back then. You also forgetting that we can no longer get (large) amount gil by npc items like back when you could npc cap. Bajaratt if the is no gil those items you farm are worthless. Items are not currency gil is. Problem is this game base off selling item for gil not farming gil to buy items. Yes you farm puk eggs sell them to vendor 200 gil a egg but again you be spending days to farm what you use to farm in a few hours.

edit: also remember gil seller did not stock pile gil then get banned back then either.
