Just a thought... what if you could purchase armor that could be 'levelled.'

Think of it as the armor equivalent to Destroyers, and a nice addition to crafting (as well as a way to use up all the NQs floating around)

Custom Haubergeon
[Body] All Races
DEF: 45~46 STR 5~6 DEX 5 AGI -5
Accuracy 10~11 Attack 10~11 Evasion -20
Lv 59~60

Basically, you could increase the stats from that of the NQ synth to just under the HQ synth by gaining, say, 80,000 exp while wearing the armor.

In order to keep the value of the Haubergeon +1 the same, this armor would require a "resynth" of the materials... for example:

Smithing (69) Clothcraft (38 )
Yield: (Custom)Haubergeon
HQ 1: NO HQ YIELD
Earth Crystal
If my guess is correct, such an item would cost roughly double a normal Hauby, but still less than a Hauby+1, offering someone who wanted something close to the stats of the +1 the chance to get them through hard work rather than a lot of up front gil. The +1's stats would still be the best, in order to retain its relative value and status.

What do you all think?

Or, instead of offering an increase in the regular stats, distinguish it from the +1 version and move it in a new direction like so:

Custom Haubergeon
[Body] All Races
DEF: 45 STR 5 DEX 5 AGI -5
Accuracy 10 Attack 10 Evasion -20
Latent Effect: Critical hit rate +2%
Lv 59

kinda cool idea in theory, but sometimes HQ's dont cost twice as much as the regular. so, it may be hard to regulate the resynthing, and in some cases, probably would make the designers look dumb if the custom one ended up costing more than the HQ does.

idk.. good idea in theory, maybe could be applied in other aspects.

That would be abused way too much i think. That may have worked awhile ago before the massive chains of cannon parties involving wars and nins, both big hauby wearing jobs. When they can make about 20k of that 80k xp in an hr, the price of the regular hauby would drop and so would the price of the levelled hauby, aslo maybe making the price of hauby+1 drop.

Good idea, but it would have to be WAYYYYYYY more then 80k xp for the levels to happen.

I think itd be really neat, but, just my opinion, I believe to level the armor, action should be taken similar to leveling NPC. Do some quests, kill some NM's, go through some BCNM's, etc. but you can only complete/try to do the quests and such after you have completed certain objective(s). Each race/job/sex has their own armor set that can be used/upgraded, and each individual piece must be quested alone.

i.e. You have 6 quests for head piece, 2 NM fights, and 1 last BCNM fight.
Now, body piece has 6 completely diff quests, 2 diff NM fights, and 1 diff BCNM fight.

But, this could be difficult, and could take some time to think how it would fall through. Im just showing that I like diversity, instead of seeing someone wearing the same piece of armor in exp pt.

Sorry I rambled lol

also, its kind of weird to think armor would strengthen after use, considering things in real life, deteriorate after using them, not get better, lol.

Hauby wouldn't be the only example. If I were SE, I'd pick the armor that has the most NQ production rate (with crafters going after HQ). Brigandine would be another great example of this.

The *main* idea would be to reduce the amount of NQ items on the market and give crafters more incentive to do what they do because the cost of the NQs should go up a bit (mitigating the loss when going after the +1). Perhaps another way to ensure the value of the +1 in the face of a custom piece of armor would be to raise the level requirement of the custom piece.

I actually had an idea simular to this not too long ago. But my version was have a peice of armor that each race or job can use, then make it upgrade in several differant ways. For instance, each peice of the set has 5 differant items that trigger a quest of sorts. Meaning there are 25 differant possibilities for each set, and nearly unlimited combinations. For example,

Haubergeon
DEF:45 STR+5 DEX+5 AGI-5 Acc+10 Att+10 Eva-20

Haubergeon + Item 1 + Quest 1
DEF:45 STR+5 DEX+5 AGI-5 Acc+15 Att+10 Eva-20

Haubergeon + Item 2 + Quest 2
DEF:45 STR+7 DEX+5 AGI-5 Acc+10 Att+10 Eva-20

Haubergeon + Item 3 + Quest 3
DEF:45 STR+5 DEX+5 AGI-5 Acc+10 Att+15 Eva-20

Haubergeon + Item 4 + Quest 4
DEF:45 STR+5 DEX+5 AGI-5 Acc+10 Att+10 Eva-20 Critical Hit +2%

Haubergon + Item 5 +Quest 5
DEF:45 STR+5 DEX+5 AGI-5 Acc+10 Att+10 Eva-20 Emnity +3

With my idea it of course would be new JSE or RSE adding stats important to that job/race, But I used Haubergeon because it was used before. I think this would be a really neat idea because it allows people to customize their armor based on how they choose to play their job. Also I was thinking the item needed to trigger the quests would need to be BCNM'd and then crafted and would be lost win or lose when the quest was undertaken, most likely in the form of yet another BCNM.

I personally think it'd be an OK idea but only if it had new stats added and the "upgrade" item isn't the main item for the original synth. If it's the same stats and/or recipe it'd potentially cause a horrible rise in price for stats still worse than the HQ version, and the purpose is all but defeated if the NQ version's price rises to the old HQ price because of this.

I had an idea too, now that this was mentioned, it made me remember it. Basically adopting the way BLU mages set their spells and the Final Fantasy X system, where armor can have stats tacked on it. So we can have like a:

Custom Gloves (Hands)
Lvl 30
All Races, All Jobs, Rare/Ex

And then rather than how FFX's "1 time only" system works, where stats will remain there once you've put it on, you can't remove it, have it like how BLUs set their spells for the weapon. So as you advance in levels you'll get points, and each "stat" upgrade follows a CoP style ring advancement upgrade.

Say at level 30 you get 10 points to spend. Then as you advance to 75, you get more points to spend. Once per day maybe, you can change the stats on the item, and past JP midnight you're able to change it again until next JP midnight (to stop "hot swapping" of stats, i.e. for weaponskills, or to change the stats to their favour depending on situation)

So "base" Level 30, it will look like
Accuracy +2 (3 points)
STR + 2 (4 Points)
DEX + 2 (4 Points)
CHR + 2 (4 Points)
AGI + 2 (4 Points)
VIT + 2 (4 Points)
MND + 2 (4 Points)
INT + 2 (4 Points)
Magic Defense Bonus +2 (6 points)
Defense Bonus +2 (6 points)
Attack +5 (5 Points)
Defense + 5 (5 Points)

And so on ~~~

And yeh, it gradually progresses, but up to a point where it won't seem too cheap of an item at 75. So, you could get like STR+5 and Attack+10, but nothing else. Think of it as an item you can use to plugin gaps. It will use more points at Level 40, 50, 60, etc, but the stat increases will be slightly greater. Maybe put it on a scale basis, so you can "pick" how much STR to have at 75 (whereas at 30 you're stuck with 2, at 75 you can increase it to +5 STR at the cost of more points).

*LadyKiKi shrugs.

I disagree on making it rare/ex. The point is to create a new armor market to help out crafters. I'd say that you could work off the latent (or rather, work it on) but the second you sold it on the AH or traded it to another player, the latent would disappear and it would have to be reactivated by that character. That way, there would be no market for people buying new armor, exping and selling back armor with the latent active.

This way, you'd have 3 choices on what to buy. In the example of Haubergeon:

1) Regular NQ Hauby (now slightly more expensive due to crafters re-synthing it)... approximately 1.2 mil according to FFXIAH.
2) Custom Hauby with either slightly improved or new stats after the latent is activated through a lot of exp... would be worth about 2.4-3.6 mil due to material costs.
3) Hauby +1 at 14 million according to FFXIAH.

This exists in WoW and I think it would be a good concept to add into XI.

In WoW it's limited to people of a certain profession (ie: if you want mail armor, or weapons, you need to be a blacksmith and a master in the profession of the weapon or armor you want, like if you want an axe, you need to be a master axesmith)

It starts off with a really weak weapon that's free and upgrades about 8 times. Extremely expensive really, alot like relic upgrades but not near as hard to get.

They had something similar to this in Ragnarok Online too...Interesting.

I kinda liked that but I think it should be more item based. For certain enhancments you need certain item that drop in specific places from specific things. Some items will drop off nms some off normal mobs some are force pop nms, some r/e some not or either or, or sellible in the ah. Look at how big the world is and how many different mobs are out there.

One quest or series of quest will unlock the ability to use the npc that created your various custom armor. Now the only arguement is the armor that is enhancible. I personaly think any armor that comes in a full set (meaning head too) including any AF, relic, CP armor. Now ppl worry about the crafting market but look at how many ppl have mutiple 70+ jobs and how many different pieces of armor ppl would be going for. This way any 30+ full set of armor can be changed and will becomes r/e.

Personally, I would like armor you could level down. With all the lvl-capped stuff being able to have one set or armor that would be workable for all levels would be awesome.

Make it lvl-75 armor and if you go into a 40 or 50 cap fight, the stats get reduced accordingly. I would free up massive amounts of inventory space if such a thing existed.
