If BLM were to get nerfed as "bad" as RNG did, would you still play it? If the job was 'adjusted' to be played more strategically instead of just throwing a bunch of Thundaga III at everything, and the big juicy numbers weren't so easy to obtain, would it still be fun?

As far as I know, there isn't a nerf coming and I know it has been discussed plenty of times. But I don't want to know if BLM should be nerfed or not, that's not what I'm asking. I'm wondering how many BLM's would be loyal to the job if it all of a sudden got a lot harder to play it well.

Another way of putting it is, do you play to be a nuker or do you play to be an elementalist? Do you play because you like to watch an enemy's life fall fast, or because you like manipulating the Wheel and using and enemy's weaknesses against it?

Black mage is already nerfed. You can't just throw out any spell and get big numbers, you need to do a little planning at least when playing black mage.

Compared to ranger anyway.

BLMs would not see nearly as bigga hit to their numbers. Simply put it costs rangers shitloads to do what they do while a black mage lvls at a small fraction of the cost.

Yeah, BLM comes with its own nerf... the "One-Shot". With all the other DD jobs, they can take a bunch of hits in comparison to BLM and still go strong. A BLM takes one to the face and its lights out. The only way that they could make me leave is if it did as much damage as the spell costs. I play BLM because I can do something i cant do in real life, nuke things. I have a few swords, I have a Bow, i have a ton of knives but I dont have the ability to make lightnight come out of the sky and strike things down.

While I do LOVE to see big numbers since I constantly hearing people talk about how much they can do with their WS or in the SC that they do, thats not why I play BLM. Being able to close with a MB that does about 1800 damage is INSANE considering its comming from some little dude who wears cloth to a fight and sits in the back resting most of the time. Again, thats not why I chose this gig. I chose it because I love the concept of the job, the mechanics of the job, everything about the job...except the low HP.

Honestly I think theres a way that they could nerf BLM. They would just have to make the day coincide with the spell that you do.

100% on the Corisponding(sp) day as the spell.
75% on any neutral elemental day.
50% on the opposing day of the element.

If this would be implemented it would force BLMs to research their spells and resistances and all that good stuff out ahead of time. This is about as far as I would allow them to go before I quit the game. They would totally have to rape the job before I consider quitting. lol even then if they did that I would probably still try to find out how to make it work but if not i would go play BST a little while and then make the move to leave finally.

No I wouldn't quit the game, I have way to much fun.

right now I just mess around on blm usually because as blm I'm so powerfull I can just go bang 1k+ damage at will on most mobs which certainly seems a little overpowered but then there's those pots and their magic shields and lots of magic agro mobs.

I don't think SE will nerf blm and if they do it'd be something like gimping AOE magic or making the day effect spells more negatively. if they gimped blm too much elementals and slimes and whatever other mobs that aren't good to mele against will be too hard.

If they do horribly gimp blm I'll just retire it and DRG 4tw!!!!

If they adjust Blm so that it's no longer the job of the month and all the bandwagoneers quit for greener pastures, I'd be the happiest Blm around. Yes I'd still level it. I'm 70 already. I have no real plans of endgame. An adjustment wouldn't hurt me one bit. Besides, whereas nerfing Ranger paved the way for Monk and Warrior to pickup top melee honors and Ranger just became one of the crowd, what job will step in to replace the magic bursting role in parties? Summoner maybe, and that would be cool just in that Summoners would probably enjoy the role more than their current. Of course, nerfing Blm would most likely make all the bandwagon, fast-track-to-endgame, big number hunters take up Summoner, and turn the job from prestigious to noobish.

if im not mistaken, blm was like one of the earliest nerfs of the game. i know its before i started playing this game, but i could be wrong.

It's been said that when SE wants to weaken Blms, they add more bunnies to a zone. Bunnies, it is said, exist solely to nerf aga spells. I can verify this first hand, as I once misjudged the radius of Blizzaga II the day I got it and nipped a bunny during a burst which coincidently linked a half dozen further off bunnies, and wiped my static. New spell anticipation + bunnies = death.

No, but then again... I don't normally play Black Mage... I only played it to get my sub for Red Mage... but I wouldnt understand how they would nerf it though... but those damn SE people WILL find a way... mark my words...

well.. even tho I don't play blm anymore.. ^^;;;;
I still would play it but I only use it for warp now.. but yeah..
I dont' use it for warp anymore :P

I don't play BLM but just to touch on what was mentioned above.. I think it's like

150% for the same elemental day as spell
100% on Neutral
50% on opposite

and Summoner never seems to be a fast paced job to 75. Most seem to take quite a while to get to 70. Once at 70 though endgame LS will pick em up like hot cakes D: SMN zerg ftw, right?

I vote to nerf BLM, so AV is even more impossible. YEAH!
Go go SE (dumshites).

...No I don't really want to see a nerf. I'd still play BLM.

That really is just tarutaru, my statics Elvaan BLM can take a 4-5 hits before eating it. I assume galka are about the same and mithra and hume a lil more.

Been a BLM since I started this game 2 years ago, I fell in love with the job, is the best job I can play. It really makes me sad to see what ppl call "good BLMs" just because they can do 1.8k+ Thundaga III, that's not being a good BLM, getting high numbers does not equal being good, being good means do good damage, save MP and get no aggro, and most importantly adapt to the PT setup and/or mobs you're fighting. And if you really wanna be that good, find out how the damage is calculated, find out how your job works from the inside, I know I did, look at my sig, and let me tell you, I didn't get a bit of hate from that MB, and mob wasn't dead, Buffalo just got too much HP.

As BLM you gotta worry for a bunch of things, MP, Elemental Skill, INT and why not tewaking some dmg with bonuses from equipment.

If the nerf BLM someday, then so be it, I won't complain at all, no matter how bad the nerf is, I'll just laugh at all the bad BLMs who will.

AV wouldn't be more impossible, the original group that popped AV the first time couldn't dent his HP and they had 30 BLMs lined up (from the J.Lo kill).

a little more in hits? O.o I'd say a little less >.> Elvaan and Galka have higher HP and more defense (cause more VIT) so ya :P
